Benny Hill was a product of his time - a time much, much more misogynistic, racist, and xenaphobic than now, so I think deserves to be cut some slack. I find it ironic that Matt Lucas was approached to play Hill in a film, when he and Wailliams were peddling the same shit well into the 2000s and beyond.
