In order to be competitive in League One (i.e. mid table) which players do people think we need to keep hold of? Sadly it looks like Bigi, Keogh and Cranie are goners so I would say the following need to be retained if we are even going to be a mid-table League 1 side:

Gary McSheffrey - provided he stays clear of injuries I can see him doing well in League 1
Cody McDonald - should be good for 15 plus goals in League 1
Conor Thomas - clearly has potential and might be decent in League 1 having had a season in the Championship behind him
Richard Wood - would be a class Central Defender in League 1
Joe Murphy - would be one of the better keepers in League 1
Gary Deegan - don't rate him especially highly from a technical perspective but has some physicality which will be needed in League 1 and is sorely lacking in the rest of the team
Cyrus Christie - a genuinely bright prospect who could be decent in League 1
Carl Baker - too lightweight in the Championship but his League 1 record is impressive

Personally I think if these players play in most games next season we will be vaguely competitive and shouldn't be relegation fodder provided SISU do get in a few other okayish players to boost squad numbers (which given their track record is a big if). However if any of these players are sold and not replaced, I will begin to think SISU genuinely do want to liquidate the club and close it down. It will be less about cost-cutting and more about sheer vindictiveness.

What do others feel is needed for us to be at least a mid-table League 1 side?

More players to cover injuries and to be able to change tactics during a game would help.

I should caveat that it is ridiculous that we are even contemplating mid-table in League 1 as being a success however with the grotesque handicap that is SISU it would be a relative triumph.

I would say the current squad minus Gael, Keogh, Cranie, Mcpake, ROD

Murphy
Dunn

Clarke
Christie
Cameron
Wood
Willis
Hussey
Baker
Bell
Mcsheffrey
Thomas
Deegan
Mcdonald

I would say that squad would need 7 signings just to be competitive and finish between 10-15th

GK: Murphy
LB: Hussey
CB: Wood
CB: Cameron
RB: Clarke
DM: Thomas
RCM: Bell
LCM: Deegan
AM: Baker
STR: McSheffery
STR: McDonald

This first team is based on the fact that Keogh, Craine, McPake, O'Donavon and Bigirama leave. If these players stayed I would have:

GK: Murphy
LB: Hussey
CB: Wood
CB: Craine
RB: Keogh
DM: Thomas
RCM: Baker
LCM: Bigarammi
AM: McSheffery
STR: O'Donavon
STR: McDonald

Subs: Dunn, Clarke, Cameron, Deegan, Jeffers

We are very unlikely to keep these players and if we dont we will rely on youth players for our subtitute players. We need another striker because I wouldnt rely on Jeffers for the first team. We need 4 new signings. A striker, midfielder to replace Bigi if he leaves, a replacemeant left back (i think Hussey will be brilliant in league 1) and a central defender for back up if keogh, mcpake and craine leave. We need 4 signings but we would probably want 5 or 6 just for back up to the first team so we dont have to rely on the youth team.

When you look at the squad it really is pitiful compared to say 10+ years ago, just shows how bad we have become when people are in uproar (understandable in a way) about a young kid may get sold, and we are hoping at best for a mid table finish in the old div 3.

How sad a demise this really is.:(

He left for a bigger club with more ambition.

Yeah - just seen it - Northampton ~ once upon a time they were talked about as a feeder club for us.

Arse.
