Ever Been Sacked ? (5 Viewers)

As 2 managers have been sacked at Watford and Huddersfield, got me thinking about getting fired.
I've been sacked a few times in the past, and at the time couldn't understand why ? I was on a building site aged about 20 and I was being trained up to be a plasterer's labourer.
I was useless but expected to be given a few days to learn more etc, but no given my marching orders after a couple of hours.
On another job in a warehouse I lasted 2 days when I was told to work faster but before I could adapt I got the boot.
It never bothered me but I know some people feel rejected and get low about getting sacked. Thoughts about this ?

Once. From an estate agents when I was 17. I was doing an apprenticeship and they sacked me after a week. This was my first experience of working in an office and knocked me for six really. They basically wanted some cheap labour. The good thing is I secured another apprenticeship with the council which was far better for me.

Made redundant once and sacked twice.

First one was headhunted and then when I got to the job they moved the goal posts and I couldn’t bring in the business they wanted.

After that went to work for an ex boss and it was cold calling, I hated it and didn’t want to go in to work when they said we need to let you go I said can I use the toilet before I go they must have thought I was upset I gave out the biggest cheer. Haven’t spoken to my ex boss since and we were really close before but it has been a good break.

Got technically sacked twice, once at the Odeon just decided to stop turning up rather than hand my notice in cos I was a stupid teenager, and at Marconi where they didn’t process my resignation and paid me for six months after I left until they spotted it and “sacked” me for not turning up for six months

Loved TD and landed a job as a trainee draughtsman at 16. Decent job tbf, but didn't like the Friday day studying at college so I used to bunk off. They found out after about 6 months when the exams were due and sacked me (told me mum I was made redundant). A real bad move as believe the kid who replaced me went on to become a partner and retired early.

Working on Coventry Point in city centre from the start as a labourer on the site.
Was there for a few months when a new foreman started, and we all disliked him as he was a bully, and had the annoying habit of not asking us by name to do a job, he would say " you go and do this, or you go and do that. " One day he shouted at me and a mate to go and load some bricks or something. I'd had enough of his attitude so told him to fuck off and talk to us properly. He was shocked at me standing up to him he ranted but stormed off. I got called in to the site office where I was told to apologise to the foreman or if be told to leave the site. No hesitation told the bloke to shove his job where the sun don't shine and went to say goodbye to work mates. Found out a few walked off site too a few days later. I felt justified in my stance as he was a bastard and if I never walked off I would have back then done him over.

Only once- had a job in Friars House (Think it’s called that, the blue building by the station) when it was the written driving test call centre, was during the summer between university terms.

They had all the headsets linked to the central computer to measure how many calls you were taking & to listen to your calls to check service levels etc etc, but for whatever reason two headsets weren’t linked anywhere, they appeared on no lists and nobody ever spoke to us about any calls and one was mine.. so me and the other guy who was under the radar decided to have some fun- if someone wanted their written test in Bristol it would somehow end up booked for Blackpool, we would conference into other people’s calls and do the heavy breathing routine- basically act like idiots putting everyone off and winding people up.. looking back it’s stupid but at the time I’ve never laughed so much in my life. Then one day they realised, connected my headset, heard me telling someone that they’d failed the test on the basis of having a ‘disturbing surname’, then heard me trying to get the number of a girl that called in looking for a test appointment- and I was swiftly escorted off the premises.

Sacked once aged 18, used to repair phones at Unipart in Nuneaton and got caught playing a game on a customers phone. I did unlock a few extra levels for the customer though.

Had a bullshit warehouse monkey job when I was 19 and left about 10am, jumped on my moped and went home and ignored the calls, they even text me asking me if I was going in the next day??

Now 28 and Been in a steady job since and got a few promotions, starting to get an itch to look for something else but the grass isn't always greener.

I did get a job once on corporation street, was about 16/17. My mate said lets go to this job as they pay loads and its easy. It was some dodgy shit cold calling to try and sell advertisement space in papers / magazines. It may have been a scam.

We went for lunch and didn't go back.

Was an apprentice working full time for a director and his PA in a college for a couple years. Earned my NVQ’s up to level 3 (it hasn’t been worth much!). Anyway, after all that they made me a full time employee and only a few weeks after the director and his PA moved business and left me behind. So I got made redundant with very little pay, because they only counted the few weeks I was an actual employee and not an apprentice. Wankers. My redundancy date was my 20th birthday.

Would’ve been made redundant from previous job because of Centrica losing millions of £‘s last year, but just hopped on to another contract that pays £4500 more a year.

At the end of the first day, I had a full tea chest of broken glass and about a dozen half decent test tubes in a box on my bench. They persevered with my efforts until the end of the week. Then they paid me off and said don't bother coming back in on Monday!

Things really came to a head when my area manager decided I had opened a rival store selling the same type of stuff about 100 yards away. He had no proof abd threats of the sack then turned to threats of demotion, then threats to move me to another store 40 miles away and then he got a promotion and things went back to normal. 3 months later I quit and went to work in my new shop 100 yards away.

I wasn't sacked but I resigned with 2 others before they had a chance to sack us for writing uncomplimentary messages about a co-worker on facebook. I have also been made redundant twice and hoping that is about to be a third time when this furlough thing ends.

The mind numbing profession of selling greeting cards. The place I worked for treated me like shit for around 5 years so decided to start up myself. My wife previously worked for said company and had a misscarriage at work and had to go to the doctors so I went over to cover. The area manager turned up and when I explained why I was there his exact words were 'well she's got a job to do'. One of my biggest regrets is not sparking him out there and then.

Not been sacked, got made redundant once but it had been on the cards for a while so I was prepared for it. Had income protection insurance and eventually, after starting legal action, a decent redundancy payment - I'd been there 10 years.

Desperately hoping to get back to work in my current job before furlough ends.

Well, this is timely!

I - and my management colleagues in my division - haven't been sacked in terms of employment, but we have today been 'sacked' as a team by the Director. The guy walked into the department 30 mths ago and within months started closing down projects and moving people on. He proceeded to fill our Directorate in a Government department with hoards of contractors, including putting two highly paid contractors in senior roles (one hold a senior civil servant role) and who are feeding their company resources into the contractor pot via sub-contracting. They have delivered nothing and spent millions, whilst denigrating any deliverables they have not been associated with.

As the Directorate can not evidence value for money, the Director has come under severe pressure - he's been told that the budget for his contract staff is very much under risk. And so today - we were expecting this - he held a 15 min call with us to tell us that we were the problem, that we had developed problematic behaviours and culture (gulag, anyone?), that our failure to toe the line was the reason why the Directorate was failing etc etc etc. He immediately followed this up with an email saying the same - not only to us but to his SLT and others of our peers - and said that HR were behind him.

There was very little that was true or correct in his verbal and written attacks (quite to the contrary): we know that we are just about the last of the permanent employees, outside of his private courtiers, that he can use to deflect his incompetence and vanity. To a person, we were left almost speechless in our post-call get together.

There has been no opportunity to discuss his position, no 121 discussions with him or HR, and he has felt totally at ease with publicly decrying our professionalism. The lack of leadership has been staggering, and the bullying astounding. I'm so shocked that I can't even find any anger about it. Yes, there is resentment, but I think we're just relieved that, one way or another, our suffering of 24-30 mths will finally be over.

And for those of you who may think there's no smoke without fire, and I can most honestly say that the only smoke has been that which his contractors have blown up his ass over the last 30mths.

Got ‘let go’ when doing agency work at Walkers for not turning up and generally fucking about.

Not sure how I didn’t get sacked from another place when I didn’t turn up for a whole week and went on a week long session including a random jaunt down to Fareham for a few days.

Loads of missed calls and messages from by boss but fronted it out and went back in the next Monday and still didn’t get sacked. Didn’t even have enough annual leave to cover the time off so they had to dock my pay.

Must have rated me though because I think I left three different times to go travelling and always got a job back there when I returned.

Actually think there may be a chance of me getting made redundant in my current role which I think I would snap up straight away if they offer VR.
