I disagree. Martin is a target man, whereas our style of play requires our man up front to run the channels, which Godden had started to do really well by the time last season was curtailed. I don't see Martin doing that, who I think would be much more effective in a team playing 2 up front, and I wouldn't see him starting ahead of Godden either (not to start with anyway). Obviously if MR is thinking about playing 2 up front then that is a different matter, as Martin's attributes would be more likely to come into play.

Partly agree, but if you want to work the centre backs, then pace is one thing they all hate. The best centre forwatd for doing it 'the Chris Martin' way is probably Giroud in the PL. I don't think he is a bad player, it's just that our 'model' is to have a sale value and there won't be one with him. I'd sooner go for a PL loan youngster, or an experienced player in their mid 20s, or a lower league promising player. Don't know who these players are, but if we don't do that and go for Chris Martin type, i'll bow to MR's judgement!!

You say that, but Robins switched the system to two strikers when we were chasing a goal in the second half.
To echo what other people have said, we need to be flexible and have several options available. We switched to 3-4-2-1 because we had no wingers and Gooden was injured, so I can see why MR has brought in wingers: more pace, the option to go 3-4-3.
In League 1, we were able to get away with a few games we lacked depth at striker and midfield. The Championship will be far less forgiving. Therefore, we really need a match day 18 that can all realistically perform at that level.

I’ve been thinking for a while do SISU see the current crisis as an opportunity to get to the promised land of The Premier League as most other clubs struggle as a result of being straddled with unaffordable wages.
Hedge funds make most of their money by taking a punt on failing businesses. If it works great - if not move on to the next opportunity. On this basis I was surprised when they didn’t go for it when they first bought us.
Now would seem to be a good time to take that punt

Yes good players, so have we, our latest crop Boroughs, Eccles, and a couple more were members of a real successful under 18s group

We have flexibility we could play 3-4-3, 5-3-2, traditional 4-4-2 or 4-3-4, I’m sure Robins will recruit with those options in mind, also it’s five subs this season so formations can and will change during games.

Pessimistic ? Far from it mate it’s fact we need some experienced heads at the level the kids you just mentioned won’t get close to the first team & will probably be released end if contracts.

Not too sure about this from the wages side. Experience would be good and offer a targetman but will his movement hamper our passing style. MR would do his best to get him to fit in and who knows where it could lead? It could be para..para..paradise? Although with us ACL injury first game more likely. At least then the physio could be say "I will try....to fix you"
Not all,getting released is part and parcel of the game realistically club like ours will be looking for one maybe two a year to break into first team squad, we’ve done well in recent years I think as of about 3 years ago we were the ninth highest club to develop players playing in the pro pyramid some fear that for an at the time lowly EFL club.

I would hate to see us play 4-3-4 I'm all for risk taking but think a keeper is an absolute must.... unless Dabo is playing centre mid. He will make sure they don't get any service to threaten the open net

Not for me. 25 Goals in the last 4 seasons in 130 odd games. Hoping for better than a goal every 5 1/2 games. Would probably be up there as one of our highest earners as well. Think we can do better.

We don't NEED a prolific goal scorer ofcourse it would be ideal, but Chaplin for Barnsley scored more than any Cardiff player. Looks where both teams finished. We need players like Ohare shipley Allen, Hilsner to all contribute and Godden and whoever our other striker we sign to do so also. If we can keep clean sheets then we instantly give ourselves a chance.
We aren't going to afford a proven 20goal championship striker. It will either be someone young, unproven and could surprise or someone who is experienced but who stats wise might not look prolific.
A host of championship clubs will be after Chris Martin I certainly would not turn my nose up at him at all.

I agree with the point on the whole, but there is also something to be said for 'attack is the best form of defence". If you've got a potent attack it gets respect from other teams wary of that threat and are less likely to close down in case you break their lines. If you've got a striker who misses a lot of chances they're more willing to take the chance on the press because they feel even if you get round it there's a good chance they will get away with it.
Meanwhile even with a solid defence and just having everyone sitting in position it just encourages them to push forward and puts you under constant pressure. It only takes one time for them to score and then you're chasing.
A lot of this game occurs in the head. Make them scared of you and you've won half the battle.

it not just about quantity
eg. godden getting 20 goals in 20 2-1 defeat is not as good as o hare getting 10 goals in 10 1-0 wins

'Getting bullied' seems to be a cliche used a lot on here and it's up there with the obligatory shouts I hear at games such as "FORWAAARDDD" and my all time favourite "SHOOOOOTTTTT."
Getting bullied is usually followed by a demand to buy 6'4 footballers in all positions on the pitch (as that will solve everything) and a sense that we should be like the 1988 Wimbledon team on steroids, booting opposition players, booting the ball into orbit from all areas of the pitch........ to get it into the mixer to big Fash or his modern day equivalent.
A couple of things wrong with that, the game has moved on a lot since 1988, I personally hate that style of football but most importantly it's the complete opposite of how we play.
Last season I would say we "bullied teams" by keeping possession, outnumbering the oppo in midfield, having players who always wanted the ball and pressing very effectively when we didn't have the ball. It worked nicely.

More tripe, Didn’t see a 9/12 foot gap between him and defenders anyway what’s it matter he got on the end of some neat play and didn’t miss.
