To be honest, we have several creative players around the middle of the park (usually the hardest types to acquire). Finding a tackle, head it, kick it player who just has to hang around in front of the defence shouldn't be too hard ( oh for a new Lloyd McGrath)!

Plenty around for sure but good ones cost money pal & want good wages 🤷🏻‍♂️

You say that but nowadays with more technical football and the thought of allowing players to be more expressive and the far more lucrative deals/sponsorships that come with it finding someone who is willing to just be disciplined and mop things up is actually becoming harder. These players don't seem to be as valued coming through.

I know that job by it's nature will pretty much go under the radar but who recently would you say has been amazing in that role. Last truly great one was Makelele. Kante is good but even he pushes forward at times.

The fact Declan Rice is considered an amazing prospect in this sort of role tells you everything you need to know.

Presumably Thompson or Ponticelli would get similar stick for wanting to try to prove themselves here at their hometown club rather than drop down to play for a team just promoted to league 1?

Why? It's hardly uncommon for players and their agents to play hard ball in the contract negotiation stage, if that's what's even happening. It's only been around two weeks since it was reported that we'd had a bid accepted. Fair enough if we're having the same chat in two or three weeks time but the fact remains that transfers are a hugely complicated process and some can take a while to get over the line.

would like to add, also what is reported may not actually be the 100% truth in where the situation lies. I don't think it is anything to take personally about, he needs to make the right decision to kick start his senior career. The hold up could also be our end though, are we not signing because we have heard Walsh could be available, or another player that we rate higher than Sheaf and we are actually keeping him in limbo...?? ( this is an example and not based off any fact) there are so many different pieces to a transfer that IMO we as fans need to take a step back and wait to see what happens, if he signs great if he rejects us that's his prerogative, if we sign someone else over him great. But lets not get stressed out over what may or may not be happening, we will never know until the signings are complete. The club will do the right thing.

Also have to take away the CCFC fan emotion, we’re not the club of anyone’s dreams unless you’re a fan. He’s right to try and get the best deal he can, doesn’t owe us anything

Last season we were going to get Ben Woodburn but that fell through and we got Callum O’Hare instead so sometimes things work out for the best

Is it an extended transfer saga though? As apart from a journalist from the Sun simply saying that talks are ongoing I personally don't think there's necessarily been much proof of that yet. It's not uncommon for transfers to take weeks and months as we all know. I just think we're so used to our business coming out of the blue rather it being leaked prior to a player's arrival, that it really puts it into perspective how elongated the negotiation process can actually be. Certainly doesn't do any wonders for the patience though.

What I'm concerned about is this player finished the previous season in March, then has a break from playing and goes on holiday. Doesn't sound like a player putting emphasis on maximising his development

It does makes me laugh when fans come out with comments like, "fuck him off if he doesn't want to sign" simply because a player hasn't signed within a couple of weeks after first being linked. If managers gave up on targets because they didn't sign within a two week period can you actually imagine the amount of deals in football history that never would've gone through.

It could literally be anything too. Maybe he had a niggle so was given a week off on holiday and a few days to test it before a medical. Maybe we, or he, want clauses around relegation that need longer negotiations. Maybe the club need to confirm an outgoing player before we can afford him.

But anyway, if he hasn't signed by18:00 today he obviously doesn't love the club as much as me and so isn't fit to wear the shirt anyway. Move on.

Where is this 2 weeks you keep quoting coming from?
How do you know this has only been going on for 2 weeks?
It is perfectly plausible that talks were going on long before the press got wind of it, which was ironically about 2 weeks ago.

The point I was getting at is that since we were first linked around two weeks ago (which you even stated in your post so it was fairly obvious as to where I got the figure from), a small selection of fans have getting slightly worked up because Sheaf hasn't signed yet for no apparent reason other than, in my opinion anyway, sheer impatience. As Esoterica summed up perfectly in his post, there could be several reasons as to why Sheaf hasn't agreed terms yet. Yet, this same small selection of fans have instead jumped to formulate their own narrative by interpreting this silence as an evident disinterest in moving to the club, without actually having any evidence to back such claims up I might add. You even said yourself that we should move onto other targets. On what basis? The mistake fans make is they think every transfer is the same and that most deals are done quickly, when that just couldn't be further from the truth.

You're right that it could be perfectly plausible that talks were occurring prior to Alan Nixon's report, I never said otherwise and in fact if I were a betting man I'd probably bet that they were. But assuming that Nixon was pretty quick off the mark in acquiring this information we can only presume that it's probably been a few weeks since the bid was tabled. Which still isn't really all that long in the context of a transfer negotiation. Lets be honest, we're only having this conversation because the news that we'd tabled a bid was reported in the press. As I said in a previous post, this is something we're clearly not used to as in the past the vast majority of signings under Robins have come completely out of the blue. It may well turn out that he doesn't sign, but in my opinion I just think this just highlights how elongated a transfer process can be.
