Waggott: We have missed our first target (4 Viewers)

ANDY Thorn has missed out on one of his summer targets after the player opted to sign for League One rivals Doncaster Rovers.
The Sky Blues boss is believed to have been tracking attacking Bradford City midfielder David Syers, who was understood to be keen on a move to the Ricoh Arena.

But City have failed to land the 24-yearold as the club's transfer embargo and ongoing uncertainty as to when they can start signing players continues.

“We have got quite a long list of players who we want to target and who we feel will do a job for us in League One and he is one of many,“ confirmed City's development director Steve Waggott.

“It's obviously still very quiet in the market with clubs having not returned for pre season yet but there's going to be loads of movement between now and then.

“We are in discussions with other players to put our marker down on quite an extensive list to be honest.

“We are not going to get them all and with the embargo still there at the moment we are doing whatever we can to keep in the game and keep discussions going.

“Everyone at the club is working really hard to get the embargo lifted ASAP because if we are going to start trading again we've got to get it lifted and from the footballing side of the club that's our top priority to get that done. It will release the blockage and then we can move ahead in a more open and progressive manner.“

leeds-born Syers has signed a two year deal at Rovers * who were also relegated from the Championship last season * after coming to the end of his contract at Valley Parade.

Syers joined Bradford in 2010 after making his name in non-league football as a goal-getting midfielder.

He scored nine times for the Bantams in his first year and twice last season after missing a large chunk of the campaign with injury.

the player said: “I came down and met dean Saunders and ever since then there's been no looking back.

“It's an unbelievable club and dean really sold it to me.
After meeting him it was a case of when can I sign, not if.“

What hard work do you need to do to get this embargo lifted, the club either submits it's accounts or it doesn't, it either has them to hand or they don't and i assume any accounts are signed off by their accountants. More drivel from our owners.

“We are not going to get any of them at all but with the embargo still there at the moment we are doing whatever we can in a futile exercise to keep in the game and keep discussions going. "

There you go Steve, corrected it for you.

Well there's a shock

What next 'we couldn't stop keogh going to a championship club'

As for the lack of activity waggott refers to, with doncaster signing this chap, we are down to only 4 teams in our league that haven't signed anyone so far.

Expect to hear “We are not going to get them all with the embargo still there at the moment" once a month every month from now until the end of January.

Hang on a minute. Steve Waggott HAS been open here. I'm not sure where he's quoted from, the Telegraph? but he's told the fans. It isn't news that's good to hear, yet he's told us. A lot of fans go crazy because of the secretive nature of SISU, so give him a little credit. It may be he's sending a message to SISU, look, you're hurting the club with this accounts delay? We've lost a potential signing, so hurry up - is possibly what he's saying to them. Think about it.

Don't think anyone is having a go at Waggott here.

And Torch, it was a joke.

"Dear 5200 season ticket renewals, I'm just lowering your expectations of signings after having faith in us - it's not possible for us to tell you out right that we wont be lifting it - as you'll stop buying season tickets or ask for your money back.

I'll continue to lower your expectations over the next few weeks with carefully placed articles in our newspaper 'the SISU evening telegraph'.

Then, finally, when we've signed no one and the embargo is still in place come the beginning of the season - I'll play act a frustration to the SISU ghosts whilst using the positives of the youth academy editions to signify good progress"

Chief Commentator!
Bit like last season then when we chased and chased Le Fondre.......yet Cody was always AT's number one choice. So do not fear, our number 'one' target is still on our radar!

Do the club even know what they have to do to get the embargo lifted? I think not as it's taking them a decking long time. even Brum will be out of theirs before us and their owner is corrupt!

He has told it the way it is.

Those who say the management team wont say anything to upset the owners, then this shows that, that particular thought is not entirely correct. If he wanted to keep SISU sweet he would have just denied having an interest in that particular player.

Waggott is trying to put pressure on SISU and rightly so.
Whether SISU will care, it is unlikely.

I hope Waggott and AT do this every time we miss out, so we can see the team we would have had, if SISU were not trying to use the embargo as a negotiating tactic

He does sound like the type of player we could have done with, an attacking midfielder on a free.

Why is anything about transfers being reported? We are under a self imposed embargo and therefore cannot sign anyone so why are the club even talking about it? Why are the CT bothering to report it? We aren't signing anyone until/if the embargo is lifted so there is no point in starting a daily report on missed this player or that player. SISU don't give a toss about the club and this embargo is proof of that, all they have to do is confirm they will continue to fund the club for the forthcoming season but they are refusing to do that and obviously Fisher is finding it impossible to convince the accountants that the club can continue without SISU propping it up so the embargo stays and the club continues on its downward spiral. Missed transfers are just the outward manifestation of the depth of doodoo this club is really in - and if things continue like this missed transfers will be the least of our worries.

Did i not see somewhere that Accounts have been filed and that we are now just waiting on the Football league to audit and lift embargo!!

Time will tell i suppose.

Someone said that CWR had reported that the accounts were about to be filed in the next couple of days - that was a week or so ago. I am sure if they had been done Fisher would be all over the CT like a rash crowing about it and urging all to renew season tickets etc

Ashbyjan, It looks to me that Steve Waggott IS trying to put pressure on SISU with his comments about the Bradford player missed. He's gone public. he knows its will crank up the pressure on SISU to get their finger out. Sure, it is a story about a player we haven't signed, but see the bigger picture. Waggott has been brought in to secure players, he's telling the media publicly that his hard work (& AT's as well) is being frustrated by the incompetence or stupidity at SISU. It's a strategy that may shame them (though I won't hold my breath).

Fisher has clearly stated that until a deal is done on the stadium then the club isn't a viable proposition and the embargo won't be lifted. This will drag on until close to the end of the transfer window, at which point we will be fielding the youth team and conveniently won't have time left to make sufficient signings. The club will then 'work hard' to bring in emergency loans from the 5th choice list that nobody else wants. Reality I'm afraid (if the club still exists by then).

And it says that they should be filed by 13th of this month so they've mist yet another date.Four months on and they still havent filed the books that should be upto date anyway no wonder SISU ain't got a pot to piss in the way they run there business

We want communication from the people involved at the club..... they provide it (ok it isnt good news) ..... and we criticise them for doing it

Yes it is a nothing story in the sense everyone knows that we are under an embargo ..... but it could tell us other things

perhaps
- that AT & Waggott are working on things ready for the embargo going
- that Waggott is sending a message to SISU ...... we are missing players because the finances are not sorted
- that Waggott is sending a message to the players and fans .... the same as to SISU but with the emphasis as to where the blame is
- that Waggott realises the importance of empathy with the fans and is doing what he can to engender it.... we wanted communication didnt we ? not everything is a lie or half truth
- that there are still plenty of players out there at the moment to be had that AT & Waggott would want
- yes he wants people to buy tickets.... it is a business after all and as such perfectly normal practice..... and the more that do makes his job easier when working in a very tight budget. (wouldnt we all want our jobs easier?)

NO I am not defending SISU but sometimes we need to accept what we have been asking for ..... communication!

The CT have to fill news columns.... why the surprise and angst?

As for SISU guaranteeing funding us...... then people are assuming that means putting more money in ..... think there is a big disappointment coming in that case. This club is going to have to survive on its own from now on....... SISU and the auditors are waiting to see a viable budget to achieve that ..... before SISU guarantee not to call in the loans from their investors and ARVO.... and the the auditors can then sign off the accounts. The consequence of that is shopping at woolies in the 3rd division not harrods of the 3rd division

The consequences of not matching the finances to our current situation, proving it is possible to third parties, is we shut the doors now......... and there is no one in a position presently to step in and save the club.

I am very frustrated by all of it ........... but at least Waggott tries to talk to us..... we can choose to ignore or disagree or disbelieve but didnt we ask for communication?

the 13th date is for the annual return not the accounts coop...... the annual return just lists officers and shareholders

I think you could be about right. If they are going to dump the club this summer I hope its soon so we can all move on and possibly give any other interested parties time to buy in and to help field a side come August. Be just like these spiteful shits to fuck us over in early August, maybe try and hide it amongst all the olympics hysteria.

OSB - I have been lucky enough (and that is sincere) to have spent a bit of time with Waggott and he is a real football man - experienced in the ins and outs of the game, his knowledge of the game is really impressive and he is a real asset to the club. I agree that maybe this is a move designed to put some pressure on SISU, not that it will make an iota of difference, and give the fans the impression that things are being planned - which I am sure they are but the reality is that he could have Messi lined up on a free transfer and accepting £100 a week in wages and we couldn't do anything about it.

If all this hinges around the 50% share of ACL and/or the rent reduction then maybe its the obligation of the council, if they are adamant they will not deal with SISU for obvious reasons, to bring the whole matter to a head. This may be dangerous as SISU could just pull the plug but this unpalatable limbo situation is just delaying the inevitable.

No - he's telling the media that we missed out on a player. There's definitely nothing I read in there that "cranks up the pressure".

If they aren't 'shamed' by missing 3 months rent and being in a transfer embargo - I can't see them being shamed at the loss of a free signing. hahahahaha
