I am not sure anyone is dismissing out of hand that some people are addicted to gambling and it ruins there lives just like you are not dismissing that millions of people have a bet and can moderate it. Same with Alcohol, prescription medication and food-all completely legal but some folks can’t have them in moderation and it has massive impact on their lives.

Without wishing to get into the whole gambling is bad for you debate all most people are saying is that yes preferably we wouldn’t want a gambling site sponsor.

if CCFC got a six figure sponsorship from a gambling site and a five figure offer from a more ‘ethical’ company we just aren’t in a position to turn that down-every penny will count next season and most people are just applying their common sense and not taking any moral high ground.

All of this is personal preference-take last years Alsop & Allsop effort-for what it’s worth I’ve lost more money paying solicitors that I have ever gambled. They’re highway robbers hiding in plain sight!

Lucky for you then Allsop are estate agents !

I agree with you. The club needs to maximise the revenue basically by any means possible

I don't know. Sometimes I wonder if playing the long game is better - Barcelona without sponsorship, for example, built their brand among other things.

That being said... most sponsors want something from it by definition. It's why Mars and McDonalds help you get into the England football team, why Marlboro and JPS turned you into Ayrton Senna. It'll always be the way!

Absolutely agree F_B, I gamble, I drink and I eat, all in moderation, to me it's more about CCFC getting more money through the door and being able to give a good show of themselves in the Championship, I will be buying tops when they come out, but completely understand anyone who has a problem with it, we are all individuals and make our own minds up on what is right for us, never any need for putting anyone down on their principles

I agree with you except for the bloody nonsense about Barcelona. For years they played the holier-than-you card by pretending g not to have a sponsor but eliminated all deals with merchandise producers so that you couldn’t buy *anything* from their club shop that didn’t have a prominent Nike swoosh on it. Then they made a big deal of “paying” unicef to have the charity’s name on their shirts before relenting and going for a washing machine company, Qatar bloody airlines and now a media conglomerate.

You’re right about the brand of Barcelona. One of the essential contradictions though is how the narrative of that brand is so Out of kilter with reality.

'Brand' in that is key though, isn't it. No sponsorship on the strip, and masses of people bought one. Would have loved to have known when the tipping point was, so that caving in and taking the sponsorship cash was more beneficial to them then that.

From what you've said @WestEndAgro – it wouldn't be unreasonable to think that BoyleSports came back with much improved terms to outbid 32Red as our main commercial partner.

Think about it – 'Stans' is their patch, they would lose face and dilute their advert if a rival came in to sponsor the 'other' team.

The time it's taken to sort this one out – I'm sure it will be good terms – possibly a record commercial deal for us.

If Granada Bingo, Talbot cars, Tallon pens, Cassidy Builders and Midepro didn’t ruin our kits I doubt very much ANY other sponsor would do pal.

I mean if a betting company is our sponsor it’s a step up from some of that lot!

To probably save a headache.

a headache is a bit of a wrong word to use tbf, There are people like me, who have had their life ruined by the harms that gambling has caused that are concerned about people walking around with a sponsor for children who are vulnerable to see and think it’s okay. The problem is people jumping on the moral band wagon and moaning on twitter just for the sake of a moan, but they should give people the option to purchase a shirt without a gambling sponsor. I’ve purchased a shirt every year but I won’t if I have to walk around with a constant reminder of a product which has torn me and my family apart and caused me suffering with my mental health for years.
