Lewis Page let go by Charlton, offered pay as you play at Plymouth, but Exeter are sniffing around to. Bad luck with injuries for the last two seasons, will get a rolling contract or pay as you play
He played for Exeter in a PSF last night and reports are he played well. He is currently on trial at Exeter. The risk is his hamstring injury. He hasn’t played hardly at all for the last 2 years. Exeter have no real budget this season so they may have to take a risk on him and hope the hamstring holds out. Of course, if Ollie Watkins is sold for 25M and Exeter get their cut of about 4M they may decide to by someone else.

JCH to Peterborough for £1.5m... allegedly with no sell on clause for us
It’s an interesting one liner and would be surprising if there isn’t one. However look at how successful the move was for him and us and I think Peterborough buying him is a great move for him but I’m not sure for them. Depends which version they get I I suppose. The falling over one or the strong ox one

I can’t believe we let JCH go to Bristol for nothing and then didn’t include any sell on clause? If that’s true, that is woeful on our part.
It doesn’t make good reading, no. Maybe it’s just a lazy assertion on my part because of his image and the way he sometimes sulked in games but if there was any attitude problems that may have affected the wider squad then perhaps we were just happy to get him out the door quick and any financial hit was deemed worth it for the squad harmony.

We had ran out of money hasn’t we and were on the verge of exceeding the wage cap. Bakayoko turned a transfer down. Someone else had to go

Don't know the details but he moved from us at the 11th hour of deadline day and most of his team mates didn't know he was going
Maybe it was as you say. He does have a colourful private life

I was told that he (and another player, that was surprisingly to some, moved on at the same time) was causing issues/unrest around the training ground.
I'd be inclined to say my source was fairly reliable.

We already moved on Doyle and Ogogo earlier the same day. That must have been a decent chunk saved, doubt either of those were cheap.

Sunderland pulled out of a deal late on I think, too - and they'd offered some cash.

Suggests we just wanted him gone!

Didn’t Doyle go to notts county are the start of January?

Why is it a great move? Its sideways for a player that scored a decent amount in L1 last season, club of equivalent size to Bristol. He's no doubt the replacement for Ivan Tony and therefore has big boots to fill.

It’s a ‘great move’ for him as Peterborough, going on last season, are more likely to be challenging for promotion.

And the proof of this is we were promoted

I didn’t think so, it was off the top of my head though. Thought we got Meyler and someone else shit the same day, in our busiest ever January transfer deadline day. I have just had a liquid lunch on a Croatian island beach though so maybe I’m dreaming!

It was a shock to most of the squad
Apparently he'd fallen out with a senior guy from the coaching team

There was a lot of bullshit posted about Doyle suddenly turning into a disruptive force when he left. MR let him go for footballing reasons, and despite my reservations at the time was proved absolutely right to do so. Whenever I have heard any of his ex team mates talk about him it is with respect and affection. Mind you I've never heard Robert Page talk about him :)

They were challenging for the play offs due in no small part to the goals of Toney who they're about to sell, as I said, big boots for JCH to fill
On paper it’s good for him...a perceived step up. I suspect JCH will think he’ll have no problem filling Toney’s boots.
Point taken though. He’ll have to do well to replicate.

Falling out with a coach and being held in high regard by your team mates aren’t mutually exclusive though. He wasn’t making the team in the build up to his departure which I’m sure was extremely frustrating for a player who is a consummate professional and used to being the leader on the pitch and in the changing room. MR nipping that conflict in the bud by seeing Doyle still needed to play is still ‘football reasons’ and isn’t a slight on anyone.

He might still have been able to run all day but his legs were gone in terms of any acceleration and it was impacting his performance all season, he was giving himself 5 yards head start on players to compensate and getting caught out because of it. Starting with him in L1 was one of the few times that MR didn’t act as ruthlessly as he normally does but that’s testament to the career Doyle has had and the respect that deserves that he gave him one more shot at L1.

It will be interesting to see how he transitions to coaching. Can envision a Roy Keane style situation where he gets too annoyed or frustrated that players don’t reach his own personal standards which becomes hard when you can no longer lead by example on the pitch.

Depending on the level he coaches at. Lower level he's got more clout having two L2 promotions to his name but above that he's basically no more than a solid, hardworking pro. Keane at least had major silverware to back it up.
