It's a 3 man midfield so going to be deeper. O hare be better as number 10 behind the strikers for me with 2 hold9jg behind him. He can still pressure but not relying on him winning physical battles infront of defence or anything
Despite the clamour from the mob on here for me to say otherwise, that is a reasonable point. I mean, it isn't right but it's a reasonable point.

My understanding was Dabo is back training and will be back before Rose who is back in October. I didn’t think it was worth spending budget on cover in that case. Pask is good enough to fill the gap and long term Dacosta will be back for backup.

If Dabo isn’t likely to be back next month then yeah maybe a loan until Jan.

If Dabo is only missing for a handful of games, you’re right, it probably isn’t worth spending budget on such a move.

The highest priority now, I’d say is addressing this CM slot(s).

I’m happy with RWB if DaCosta isn’t sidelined for the whole season. If it’s an ACL, we could do with a loanee coming in.

I like Mason too, but he’s more of a traditional LB, and Robins probably wants a more attacking WB.

I’m not 100% sure on the timescales of our players returning.
I think Dacosta has done his ankle ligaments
Hopefully a better prognosis than if it was his knee

Just realised that Tyler Walker was 1 goal behind Toney in January. Toney went on to finish very strongly in a free-scoring P’boro side. But, given that P’boro want £5-10m for Toney, we’ve got a striker who is very good value for money, in my opinion.

Does anyone have an idea of what we paid for Walker? It wouldn’t surprise me if we paid around £1m for him.

Walker did score a lot of pens though

Don’t know why people seem to think Walker can’t play on his own up front, he did that most games at Lincoln

Not read the thread, but got to say, this is a class signing. Given our current record in signing young players and turning them into diamonds, this should give us a hungry young goalscorer with great potential.

Add a CDM to compete with/replace Kelly and I'll be happy as a pig in shit.

Delighted with this. Personally still think we will bring another striker in as well at the expense of Biamou. Think quite a few are still to go out as well probably on loan. Wouldn't be surprised if we bring in two DCM's.

The last two days have plugged two of the four gaps I thought we had. Walker is somebody I've wanted us to sign for a while. There aren't many strikers out there of his age who've scored 20 plus goals in a season (I know it was L2 but still). Ostigard sounds great too.

Sheaf would be great and I also think we need one more attacking midfield player. I think we lack a certain creativity there. O'Hare and Allen are great. But they are bustling, harrying types. And I think Hilssner sounds like a direct running type too. I'd love a ball playing, creative option too. But maybe I'm too optimistic.

A fantastic signing. 1 in 2 in league 2 season followed by a 1 in 2 league 1 (part) season. This lad is heading in the right direction. An absolute steal when you look at what Toney reportedly went for, which is a ridiculous amount for a league 1 player btw.

Unlike some, I don't see us releasing Biamou & Bakayoko. Not yet anyway. We need at least 4 forwards in the squad (and that might not be enough over a whole season) to cover injuries, and the odd game where we get desperate and need to throw the big lads on.
I think when you play 1 up front, 3 plus a kid from academy is fine. I expect Max to go, possibly perm, possibly loan as FP said.

How many pens did he score v how many pens Toney scored?

I think you are right. Although it was a short spell Max looked unstoppable last season when he returned from injury and Godden was injured. He has hardly featured in the friendlies. He gives us something different. I also wonder about Bremang and how far away he is from adding cover.

I think Hilßner was mentioned as someone who can deliver a range of different types of pass. He's meant to have a great left foot. Saw him try a couple of threaded/ long range passes in the friendlies so far but they didn't come off. Could be one to watch for that creative spark though?

Great signing; fits the usual mould of young player with bags of potential, and in this case is already realising it with his impressive goal scoring record. Being honest I can’t actually remember him standing out against us, but he seems highly ratedand as I say the stats speak for themselves.

I hope it doesn’t signal the end for Biamou, I think he offers something different to the others and is especially useful if we revert to two up front. Plus, even if we continue to play one striker, having four in such a compact season as we’re about to have isn’t a bad thing at all.

Good to see some positivity returning to the forum.

You are making the simple assumption that we will never deviate from playing one up front. One of the lessons I'm sure MR took from last season was the need to play differently when the need arises. Besides which, unlike other areas of the team up front is the one area academy cover is not adequate. Bremang is nowhere near good enough yet. I only see Baka or Biamou moving on if we are going to bring in another forward.

I didn't say we'll never deviate at all, we'll probably do it when we're losing fairly often, but its clear what formation the manager prefers and he's not one to panic.
Regardless when you're on a budget 3 plus a kid is still enough. Also if Max was just out on loan rather than permanent you'd have a recall option.

I’m happy Forest recalled Walker because had he scored 20-25 goals, there’s no way we’re getting him for less than £1m.

Toney had a great season in an attacking team, and at the minute is most likely the better striker than Walker. But, Walker is a year younger, and scored a lot of L1 goals for a lower mid table side.

I can’t help but thinking we’ve nabbed a very good transfer here. In perspective, we may have paid less for Walker than what we got for Chaplin. Very good dealing!

Agree, I don’t want to speak to soon but as I mentioned yesterday a forest mate wasn’t best pleased ‘I don’t understand why we’ve let him go permanently, they think really highly of him’

I was saying to my brother last night that I I’m guessing Forest are probably one of those clubs really badly hit by Covid so need the cash. Players on decent wages, reliant on big crowds etc and only expecting reduced capacity at best for the foreseeable

Who knows, either way, exciting signing !
