For those querying the duration of this negotiation, and how it relects on the players ' commitment or lack of it, 33 pages on SBT is a mere bagatelle when compared to the Chaplin saga.

That was Pompey playing silly buggers though.

I remember that game well. Firstly, the referee was a Mr Singh, the first time I can remember an Asian official. I have to say he wasn't very good but added to what was a memorable afternoon. We went down to 10 men fairly early in the game as Bennett had handled the ball outside of the box. (he may have slid out with the ball). Hughes went in goal and played well. However Stoke were abject that day and even with 10 men we were battering them. They were very lucky to escape with a point.

Bennett basically caught the ball outside the box. I remember being convinced it was in the box, but it probably was because the appeal was unsuccessful, iirc.

I was still a primary school student at that game - but absolutely unforgettable game!

Best of luck Ben!

One thing that no one could ever take away from you - you are the first player in football history to be written off by certain fans of your new club for the unimaginable crime of laughing in training at your old club.

Almost as ridiculous as the taxi for Robins call last season - but welcome to Sky Blues talk - expect the unexpected!

Tbf it was just one attention seeking child who said it

Do you ever stop sprouting bollocks? You have no idea what happened with this deal other than believing some shit on twitter from people who have as much clue as what is going on at the club as you do

Sprouting bollocks eh!! Hope that's possible and not just a wind up. The missus has banged on at me for years about how knackered my current set are. Perhaps if you can give me an idea on how to sprout a new set the mardy mare might show some interest..

Another signing that may prove great by Robins and his team - strength all over the squad. Can't wait to see how they perform when it matters.

I'm sure he was just outside the box ready to shield it into the box so he could pick it up and it took a horrendous bounce and the ball lost all momentum, and he was stuck outside the box would a ball that wasn't going to make it in, with a stoke player baring down on him, left little choice, I was adamant he was in the box at the game, but on the highlights he was a good foot outside.

Whatever it was it was very harsh of Mr Singh to send him off.

I’m under the impression that it classified as a ‘deliberate handball’ which is an automatic red card?

I could be wrong, but refs don’t have a fallback option in that circumstance!

There was a Stoke player closing in and it was judged he was deliberately denying a goal scoring opportunity which then was a red regardless of context unlike now. It was pretty harsh imo as Bennett was barely outside the box and got carried over by momentum.

More embarrassing was how we pissed all over them even with 10 men

Am I right in thinking Stoke were in and around playoffs/automatics?

Or was this when Stoke were also a confined to mid table mediocrity like us?

If I remember rightly they were flying at the time but even with 10 men for over half the game & a midfielder in goal, we played them off the park.

We were having a dogshit season and they were doing well. McSheffrey had a pen saved and we missed God knows how many sitters alongside it. Hughes did have to make one diving save otherwise he wasn't tested
