Shipley (5 Viewers)

He looked ok today TBF, but he needs to start putting his foot in a bit, and like the whole team he was fucked after 70 minutes, that's down to MR and AV not having the squad ready in time, and that's cost us a point today.

Probably because Shipley lost his man for the 2nd goal...schoolboy.
This is incorrect. Just watched the replay back, Hyam was marking the lad and got sucked towards the ball for some reason. If you insist on singling players out at least get it right.

I find this thread really strange given that we’ve just gone away to a side that fancy themselves for promotion and played them off the park for long spells. Give the lads a break would ya.

Im surprised Shipley is ahead of Eccles there. Can’t help but feel if that’s the case at this point we should move Eccles on and bring in a proper 4th DM.

Pretty sure Ostigard has the quality to play the odd game if required in centre defensive role. But I was surprised today Shipley did ok.

Disagree. Central defenders are always likely to get dragged further into the centre of the goal. Whether their lad was Shipleys to mark is debatable, what isn’t debatable is that Shipley was static.

Robins will also single him out, the difference is that he will do it behind closed doors.

The championship is brutal and if we are going to stay up, we have to do better in situations like this, if it was O’Hare, Allen, Godden I would say exactly the same.

I have been critical of Shipley in past but also praised him. His fans are cultish

Thought he was good today though playing a role he is not naturally suited too. No complaints from me today

Yep agree that it was very sloppy and we’ll continue to get punished at this level if we don’t tighten up.

Just don’t understand why you’re pinning all on Shipley when it was clearly Hyam’s man that scored. Maybe Shippers was flat footed and didn’t react, but you’re saying it was all his fault, which it wasn’t.

Our first game at this level in 8 years. Ships is 22 and his first game ever at Championship level, came on as sub for an injury, yeah he looks a likely candidate for a pile on, let's blame him for everything.

Goal scoring midfielders are not exactly common

If Sheaf was fitter he could have replaced Kelly and Shipley replaced Allen later on. I only saw the game from about 60 minutes and he was poor to anonymous in that spell but think he's got plenty to offer further forward.

Not really, the reality is that Bristol played competitively 6 weeks ago compared to our 6 months.
That’s a fair point, but the hastily arranged friendly against Solihull speaks volumes, it as if MR realised we weren’t ready for the kick off, I can’t help feeling we are 2 weeks behind where we should be, and we were found out.
But fitness aside, there’s much to be positive about.

Yeah I think he thought the players would be in better shape coming back off furlough, they'll soon get there though.

He didn't lose his man, we're doing zonal marking at corners. The ifollow I was watching was part of Bristol city's coverage, they had a player doing punditry and was saying we zonal mark and as a player he much prefers man marking.

As stated, it wouldn’t matter who the player was that made the mistake, I’d still single him out

You just singled out the wrong man that's all ;)
If I’m being honest I’ve never been convinced by Shipley. He doesn’t influence the match enough for a central midfielder.
However to his credit he continues to improve and seems like a good lad to have around the changing room.

He doeshave an eye for goal and I think he needs to focus on becoming a goal scoring box to box midfielder who runs beyond the strikers .... if he does he may just surprise me as well as others

Most peope who think hes shite do so because they think real life football is actually a computer game. If they cant skin 4 players then get rid

Shipley to his credit has improved over the last 2-3 seasons. He needs to continue to work on his tackling (he doesn’t get stuck in) and his fitness.
We, the supporters need to understand that just because he is “one of our own” that he is not above criticism when deserved.

You see Hyam pinch in to deal with the perceived threat of the play in the middle, only for the ball to sail over and hit Kalas, who Shipley was left to deal with. Shipley wasn’t in a position to deal with the threat at all.

It’s a team failure - solely blaming Shipley isn’t fair.

Why no players on the post? A defender on the post and no zonal marking and that doesn’t go in. But everyone will forget the 3/4 chances we had to wrap the game up before then and jump on one players back - I’ve missed football 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

They may have to change zonal marking if it becomes a problem, but our set piece defending wasn’t an issue last season.

There’s a reason zonal marking is popular - we just didn’t execute on that set play.

Although the 2nd goal was a bummer, the 1st goal was worse because every member of our defensive set up were in some way culpable. The ease with which they broke through us unopposed was ridiculous. If just one of them had been alert to the danger, we could have prevented the goal.
