Oh and this Alex ferguson "rubbish" comment is not all that it appears is it. Ferguson was convinced shaw got him debt of by a series of provocative actions including an unseen of the ball kick which he feels started the chain of events.

Ferguson stormed into the referees dressing room afterwards and blamed him for not seeing this and leading to the dismissal and the Karl Douglas impression.

Yes we know ferguson is a great manager. We also know his lack of objectivity and grudge bearing traits hence his comment.

If you saw Shaw the second time he was with us you would say not a good player. Quite average second time around, but was coming to the end of his career. He was a lot better 1st time around. Dependable, read the game well and most of all always gave 100%. Not the best technically, but made up for it in other ways. If we had a team full of players giving their all every game we wouldn't be where we are now. Puts players like Fatwood to shame.

Real, if you want to support a team of world class players I'd suggest you've got the wrong club. Try Barca.

My opinion of Shaw was that he was a solid defender who had undwindling commitment to the side, these qualities won him his fans more than technical ability, thats not to say he was a poor footballer.

He saw off plenty of competitors for his place in his time at the club and you always felt he gave 100%

I just had a thought. Maybe the vast majority of us are wrong and Real is right :thinking about:

Look back at most of our ex players. Most are seen as shite by the majority. When a player is seen as at least half decent by the vast majority there must be a little truth there somewhere.

I don't wish to support any other team than my home town team, but that doesn't mean I should accept dross like Shaw. I want my team to improve, no matter how good or bad the players are. As for Shaw seeing off plenty of competition for his place, he did, but in that group he saw off were internationals such as Breen and Konjic, and for the life of me I couldn't understand that either, other than Shaw being Strachan's yes man.

Judging by your name you obviously think Cov should be champion league winners, our centre halves should be cultured dribbling out from the back and playing pin point passes and our strikers should be scoring 40+ goals a season and celebrating our 5th league title on the bounce so players like Shaw will never be able to satisfy you.

Yea of course City fans got what they deserve  What a stupid comment

ajsccfc got it spot on "You say it's every man's right to disagree, yet you regard something you don't agree with as a myth followed by sheep. It's crystal clear."

Shaw was no Breen or Konjic but he was half decent. He did the best of the limited ability he had.

Now Paul Williams, he was a bad player...

Have to agree with Real, Mo Konjic gets a similar status, cost us plenty of goals and average at best, yet because he would make a 50 yard run every match he gets legendary status. Yet on another hand, someone like Dublin, who single handedly kept us up most seasons is hated because he 'screwed' us over.

Shaw was a lot better than konjic who would never have survived as a premier league player for over a decade.

And it's this very response which is why I am of the opinion that some City fans have now got the team which they deserve, struggling to survive and about to play Yeovil.

So, Shaw was better than Nilsson for 1 season as shown by his player of the year award and that's the complete reason why we're now set to play Yeovil!! Everyone hating Sisu have got it wrong then as 'Real' seems to think the blame should be on Shaw winning player of the year ahead of Nilsson!!!

If those that run the club can see the fans are happy to accept rubbish, you can hardly complain when rubbish is what is served up.

Doesn't prove anything, Gunnarsson won it ahead of Westwood a couple of years back and Westwood was by far the best player in the team that season.

I've never complained about the team we have and i still believe Shaw was better than other players we've had. Just because you think he's rubbish doesn't mean we all should and it also doesn't mean that single reason is why we are where we are today!!

Three Qualities ,Solid ,Dependable, Ultra Proffessional !!! Has learned very well under Kenny Jackett and normally would love him to come ,however I feel another defensive addition would be backwards for us.

We need more Attacking impetus than we've shown in the last four or five seasons ,Goals are the grail no matter what league we're in !!

Getting back to the style of Black and Nielsson would put bums on seats and have us at the sharp end when April /May come around Niether would be available or more likely wishing to come ,but we need someone on board with these princples in their locker ,be it to work solely with the strikeforce or teamplay .

Am a tad surprised that we may be getting someone else on board as I was thinking Harrisons exit to be purely cost saving ,If he's available and we're spending money David Kelly who worked with Billy Davis and got Preston promoted from this division fits the bill.

Great... One defensive assistant manager out - another in.

Would personally like to see an attacking influence in the dressing room.

One day we'll realise that winning means you have to score goals and that old players don't solve our problems.

You are correct to a degree, it doesn't mean it's the single reason we are where we are today, but it's one of the symptoms. You accept rubbish, you get rubbish.

Was it Big Ron that signed Shaw?

Yes it was. How much money did that clown waste? If anybody wonders where it started to go wrong, look no further than Big Con.

Here here, slightly harsh but pretty much on the nose. I'd never bad mouth any player that's put on a Coventry shirt especially if they've played there arse off for the club for over a decade. It's "fans" like this that I hate, so full of negativity, would find fault in a 1-0 win in a cup final. I applaud players like Shaw he was as much of a fan of Coventry as I am.

Was slightly harsh I agree but just reading his constant belittling of other fans for having a different favorite player to him, or just liking a player he doesn't, gets on my goat! Specially someone like Shaw who gave 110% and played most of his career in the top English league, can't be that bad!

Ah yes but some know always seem to 'know' that if you play in the top league and even hold your own you must be rubbish,

So would he (real) refuse a premiership defender to play for us now

Ladies / Gents,
Can we achieve a sense of realism with this post.
We should not be discussing the playing merits of RIchard Shaw, purely the coaching ability.
If he joins OUR!!, team for next season we should welcome him and hope that his input improves the side.
Why is it that a high percentage of posters appear to enjoy negativity?
Not a SISU fan, however have purchased my season ticket for next season.
Shopping with the missus or an afternoon at the footsie? I know what I would rather do.

Football is a game of opinions, whilst mine is different from 'Real' I don't believe that makes me right. It's what forums are all about, don't have a go at him/her, simply make your point.

But he only had one spell with us..an 11 year spell at that: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Shaw_(footballer_born_1968)

What I think you mean is he was better in his late 20's than his mid-30's! Agreed-he was a great man marker in the top flight, but he was constantly bailing out inferior players at the back in his dotage. The number of times since relegation he got MOM by me and my mates were countless. He was almost in the Peake role by then, sweeping up behind everyone else, last line of defence, first yard in the head, etc.

I remember getting really annoyed that Chris Kamara was the only man in the world to call him "Rick Shaw". Because every one else was intelligent enough to realise that a rickshaw is something else entirely!
