There are lots of billionaires who are terrible at business. Capitalism isn’t a meritocracy, it’s a lottery. But that’s beside the point. She continually shown herself to be very poor outside of her limited mode for dealing with distressed debt. She’s made poor appointments, sought poor advice, and made rash decisions with no forethought.

“shrewd” is not the word Id use to describe her. That’s just bog standard rich person worship, and I’m an atheist ;)

Also, big red flag for whether someone isn’t shrewd: buying a football club.

Would she like me to advise her on how easy it is to quadruple her money. I'll only charge her £8mil for the privilege.

Joy needed to at the helm from the start. At least we’d be in the prem of have new owners years ago.

I have it on reasonable authority that the gin soaked ashtray Lucas, was quoted of her meetings with Joy as being 'the most difficult hard nosed business person she'd ever dealt with'. When you consider some of the tools she'd have met in local government and a lifetime in the public sector, that's quite a resounding and emphatic statement, although Joy would probably take it as a badge of honour.

I don’t think she knew much if anything about ccfc until the Northampton farce and questions were raised in the House. of Commons.

Difference between being awkward and being shrewd. As I’ve said he tactics when fighting a failing company on debt are great. Her tactics when trying to run a football club or negotiate with local authorities or other bodies have been very very poor.

Anyone can be “hard nosed” and “difficult”, being shrewd means choosing the right times to be that and recognising when it doesn’t work. It also involved picking better advisors than she has.

Do you know what the television income is for Wasps by playing in the Premiership and what the running costs are?
We project that CCFC will get £6M+ for being in the Championship and there are reports our wage bill last season was circa £3.5M. Hence, you are right in thinking CCFC is self sustaining.
What is clear is Wasps are closer to the edge and we know it’s bad when your on here son
been on here loads of times i find it quite interesting. I like a lot of sensible Wasp fans know it would be in our best interests to have CCFC playing at the Ricoh and as such find some of the threads on here quite insightful.

I wasn't necessarily agreeing or disagreeing and only quoted the post in my response as it seemed pertinent to the point I was making. I agree with you that one thing doesn't mean the other, but having not been party to any of those conversations (and I assume neither were you) then it's difficult to assess her business acumen either positively or negatively. I assume she's got more right than wrong over the years although whether that's luck or good judgement I again can't really comment.

Our owner is worth $2.3bn apparently. The only thing we need to worry about financially is her getting bored.

(off topic: I love you coming on here and getting people frothing. Makes me chuckle. Looks like you’re having a decent season, enjoy it)
I don't mind the abuse as i understand why it comes my way. i have no ill feeling towards CCFC i have family members that are season ticket holders they even went to Northampton. i find it interesting to see the extremes of fans comments as we have the same on our forums. At the start of the season when we lost 5 of the first 6 games i did try to tell people on here that once the new players settled the young talent got game time and the senior players that were injured came back we would be decent team again added to that just about the entire squad has signed new contracts. my take was will we win it? no chance. will we get relegated? no chance. top six? yes with an outside chance of top four if things go really well. the only thing to change is can we win it, we now have a chance but Exeter are head and shoulders above everyone else we all need them to have an off day which doesn't happen very often.

knowing SISU they would if they could
Sisu have had a single dispute that is about ownership of the Ricoh arena.

Both Northampton and Blues have been nothing but complimentary about them and us, there have also been no other disputes within any of our dealings with any supplier and our players are always paid on time and in full. None of that can be said about Wasps, Wycombe couldn't wait to see the back of you.

Wasps have broken far more promises, lied to more people and been intentionally vindictive. It's you that tried to kick out our youth academy before you realised the council couldn't pay for it. It's you now destroying the dozens of amateur sports clubs and the ability of hundreds access to leisure facilities.

The local press has been kind to Wasps, without that you'd be seen for the parasites you are and none of that even mentioned that they've permanently franchised the club away from its supporters.

I don't think he's got people raging, I think quite a few are calling out the drivel.

I'm a rugby fa if a well established, local community embedded club, with a strong loyal support like the Saints are losing money hand over fist, (the Tigers too), then a club with huge outgoings, financially overstretched, significant overheads, with some bonds to pay off in a couple of years that they can ill afford, with record losses, are in more shit than the poster cared to mention.

He is right they might not go bust in the next twelve months, but their finances don't look great for the twelve months after that, and I hope when it all goes wrong they take the utter disgraces like Lucas, Duggins, Mutton et al down with them.
I've openly said on here that Cov19 has totally destroyed our already fragile finances, how is that not "more shit than the poster cared to mention."

Lol no one buys a football club to make money, not many if any have made money! If your a Billionaire a small fry club like cov is just a toy! Sure fire way of going from Billionaire to Milionaire.

didn't somebody say if you want to make a small fortune from football start with a large fortune. that being said if you can manage to get back to the premiership not only would it be a monumental achievement but the money involved is staggering.

I'd imagine the Galzers have made a fortune out of Utd. They didn't pay for it, they got loans against the club and made the club pay them off, they pay themselves huge salaries to do minimal work and then they take out massive dividends.

I think everyone would take that. Though if you watched the Bournemouth game you’d see how far off we are. Going L2>Champ seems a lot easier than going lower Champ > Prem.

Don’t need to be part of any conversations when the results are there for all to see. If I’ve got a fuck ton of debt I want reducing I’d call Joy all day long. If I wanted to run a long term sustainable business with close links to local partners, I’d call anyone but.

Of course if I’m wrong and next year we waltz into the Ricoh as owners for peanuts I’ll happily change my mind.

See, it's also a risk of repeating the same endless things ;) but I've always thought it depends what you want a club to be, as well. I don't necessarily think successful in a business sense is the same as successful stewardship of a club. There's certainly an argument that as a business we should have been closed down long before now, and in effect she's trying to make something from nothing - it's a free hit as we're knackered if she didn't try, knackered if it fails so... if it succeeds we end up with a bit of a bonus.

The counter argument is a club is about a lot more than that, it's about community, relationships with people and place, and that a lot of that was destroyed unneccesarily (and yes, GR, MM, underappreciation by other stakeholders also done similar, but that doesn't negate this particular point). So in many ways the stakes are higher because the actions taken would make it harder to rise from the ashes if we were to fall completely. We can see now, we do better in many of those areas than we have for years but, it's a long way back!

An owner should be a steward, rather than a business person, in my view. Sometimes those two things coincide, as the aim of the steward is to hand the club on to the next party in good shape, but being a steward also means doing things that, at times, aren't necessarily what you would do as a ruthless cut-throat business person.

You can’t really paint Sisu in that positive light.

They weren’t really interested and in the club at all - it was just a cheap project to make a return.

It’s also not really changed. They’ve put hardly any money in and protected it in loans and nonsense debt.

They realise now you need a bit of actual PR which wasps got right from the start

Two absences out of the city is just incompetent

Without wanting to set off a firestorm I thing joy herself has been a reasonable steward. It’s her awful appointments before (orange ken, Igwe, Fisher etc.) that did a lot of the damage by trying to run the club like any other business. She also had no intention of running a football club, she was sold a dream by Ranson who ran away and left us to people who didn’t have a clue when he didn’t get what he wanted.

Since Joy has taken an active role in the club things have improved immeasurable, I don’t think many people would disagree with that.

Well.. we've left the city that bears our name twice since she took a more active interest, that's not a small thing!

You also can't discount before as it was the people working for her's fault - that's equivalent to wanting Joe Elliott back because it wasn't him who made the mistakes, it was the people he endorsed.

I think she had a minimal part to play in Northampton. Basically signing off on Fisher’s plan. Yes she she should be blamed for putting idiots in place but the point still stands. Things have improved immeasurably since she took a more active role, which I believe happened post checkatrade final.

Robins has said they are great owners to work for, I don’t see why he would have taken the job again if he hated it here.

I’m not absolving them of their many crimes but I’m also not playing along with the narrative that because they’ve been awful everything they’ve ever done is awful.

I’d still prefer someone fresh to come in and take over the club so we can build bridges with other stakeholders but I’m still pleased that our current owners have moved away from selling everything that moves and letting players walked to building up back room and board room and allowing them the funds to improve every aspect of the club.
