Does he still have the dreads? That's make or break as to whether I'm happy about this or not, to be honest.

won Player of the Year in 1998/99 and Players’ Player of the Year in 2002/03.

Not bad for someone so bad

You are a REAL WUM

These players who voted him their player of the year, they've gone on to be great managers I take it being as they can spot a great player?

You have obviously never seen the great man play - Premiership class for majority of career - did a magnificent job for CCFC.

One of the best central defenders in twenty years - you must be a pathetic WUM to denigrate RS this way - just look at the 99% of posters all supporting our new assistant manager.

This appointment shows a huge intent at last from CCFC and with the appointment of Lee Carsley and the lifting of the transfer embargo green shoots of recovery are beginning to show through.

PUSB

"the great man"? You are talking about Richard Shaw, a centre half who couldn't head a ball, who would panic on the ball and who gave the ball away so often he then had to make the last ditch challenge that then somehow made him a hero? Some people are easily pleased.

You have educated yourself. Your comments are border-line ridiculous. They smack of personal vendetta than detailed analysis.

But I haven't got a vendetta against anybody, if I did I'd name them.

we have thorn, carsley and oggy. if we are that strapped for cash surely the money wouldve been better spent on another players wage than on another coach
As its been pointed out in another Thread ,its possible OGGY may not see the start of next season,Do we need a fulltime GK coach at this level?

So, hold on. This is essentially saying that evey time a player is chosen as a player of the season by their fellow pro's, we will have to wait till those players become managers to see if they're any good at it for the choice of that player as player of the season to be justified?!

Your fighting a losing battle mate, the bloke is obviously one of those "shock posters" that try and get a reaction out of people. You can throw facts at him till your blue in the face but he refuses to take any other opinion than his own, and if you do dare to have a different opinion you are obviously a "sheep" as we're the other 18k people cheering for Shaw every week. I guarantee this bloke is 15 and has never seen Shaw play, probably seen one YouTube clip and made his mind up that he hates him.

Look at another way, I don't rate the playing ability of Richard Shaw, and neither does one of the greatest managers of all time Alex Ferguson, somebody said earlier in this thread that he was chosen over other players by 9 different managers. It has also been mentioned that the majority on this thread rate Shaw, as if that's proof that he was a great player, so who's right and who's wrong? Myself and Sir Alex, or 9 sacked managers, some players who are unproven as manager, and supporters who whether they like to admit it or not, do tend to go along with the general opinion, rather than be brave enough to form their own.

Season ticket holder before Shaw arrived and for many seasons while he was here. Maybe my issue is I like dominant centre backs who can win headers, and mean to win headers. I can't believe some are so easily fooled/pleased. But yes, because I don't rate him I must be 15 and only seen him on YouTube.

By the way, I don't hate him, I just don't rate him, there's a difference.

A visionary would understand the clear context of Ferguson's quote. You're a clownshoe.

Precisely he keeps saying me and Sir Alex. As he well knows he never said he was rubbish but had a rant as he blamed him for getting Cantona sent off and the subsequent debacle that followed.

Maybe I have it wrong then? If I have and Shaw was this great player, why did no big club come in with a huge bid for a man of such talent? I can't believe a man this talented only ever plied his trade at clubs like Palace, Coventry an Millwall. Sounds to me as though the managers at clubs like Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal etc have missed a trick.

So Ferguson didn't really say he was rubbish did he? Also you now say that any player who did not play for a big club are rubbish. So I assume this applies to Hutchinson, Wallace, Regis, Bodak etc.

Oh hold on Bodak did so I assume he must be a superstar.

Just ignore him, this guy is an ass with a stuck up elitist attitude and looks down on those who have a different opinion than him.

Save yourself some stress about him getting you wound up and let him and Sir Alex have their sleep overs and tea parties where they talk about how great they are and how bad Richard Shaw was as a player.

So because you don't play for a "great" club means you can't be a decent player? Visionary? I'd say blinkered.

But clearly "Real" loved Peter Bodak - what a player.

Basically this guy thinks all players that play for Cov should be former world player of the year and score 40 goals a season because Shaw wasn't good enough to play for the best teams in the country he wasn't good enough he is saying. So actually he is saying we should have the same quality of players as Man Utd and Arsenal.

He's convinced me. I should have taken "Bodak's my name goals are my game" far more seriously than I did.

I think my biggest gripe is his total lack of respect for a player that showed 11-12 years of loyalty to the club, was by no means the worst player we've ever had and always put the effort in. But because his opinion is different to everyone else's he's a visionary!

Yes i AM talking about THE Richard Shaw - who was excellent in the air - was calm on the ball - and seldom gave the ball away because of his positioning and reading of the game.

If RS can transfer some of his attributes, skills and commitment ethic to CCFC in his new role we will benefit greatly from this role model of a player.

Welcome on board Richard - ignore the silly 1% of detractor(s) - they know nothing but make it their mantra to seek out any player for their vitriol and negative thoughts and when saturated move on to the next one.

Not quite. Le Tissier only played for Southampton, but he was regularly linked with the top sides, because he had talent and ability.

Imagine that, wanting your team to have better players. In future I'll not bother and I will hero worship players the standard of Shaw instead. And you wonder why we are now a division 3 club about to face Yeovil?

Nothing to do with no decent teams wanting him of course, you just kid yourself he was loyal instead.

Awful in the air. And exchange calm for panic, whilst not forgetting positioning and reading of the game be exchanged for sideways and backwards passes.

They know a proper centre-half when they see one, and will tell it straight despite personal insults and bullying.

so how many players win headers but don't mean it? Is it just me or does this quote make no sense at all?

You're highlighting your lack of footballing understanding with this comment alone. Shaw would jump with an opponent and if he won the ball it was a bonus, I never felt he meant to win no matter what in the way a Colin Hendry would. It's called conning people, and I can see he has conned quite a few on here.

Begs the question Real, if he was so terrible, how did he carve out a career largely spent in the top 2 divisions in English football? He'd seem to have conned an awful lot of people for that to be the case; saying that, the same applies to Titus Bramble, who is the worst top flight centre half I've ever seen.
