Not quite. Le Tissier only played for Southampton, but he was regularly linked with the top sides, because he had talent and ability.

Imagine that, wanting your team to have better players. In future I'll not bother and I will hero worship players the standard of Shaw instead. And you wonder why we are now a division 3 club about to face Yeovil?

Nothing to do with no decent teams wanting him of course, you just kid yourself he was loyal instead.

Awful in the air. And exchange calm for panic, whilst not forgetting positioning and reading of the game be exchanged for sideways and backwards passes.

They know a proper centre-half when they see one, and will tell it straight despite personal insults and bullying.

You're highlighting your lack of footballing understanding with this comment alone. Shaw would jump with an opponent and if he won the ball it was a bonus, I never felt he meant to win no matter what in the way a Colin Hendry would. It's called conning people, and I can see he has conned quite a few on here.

Really don't care what the very very small minority think, I am personally very very happy that shaw is joining the management team. Excellent move and one which I think will make all the difference. PUSB.

Real knows his stuff. Les sealey had a spell with man u as well didn't he. I therefore expect him and the wizard of the dribble to be in his all star Coventry 11.

I completely agree, I think it's a great move.

Not really, I tend to find if a Coventry fan rates a player he is often not much good. I remember the natives chanting "sign him up" when Lee Mills made his debut on loan. I don't need peer approval to form my opinion, just as I couldn't care less for the silly insults.

Real=wum
Real=wum
Real=wum
Real=wum

Reals a twating Aston villa or leicester fan, its the only way to make sense of wat he's saying. Close the thread and hopefully he will fuck off and fall of a tall building or choke on one of Shaws locks!

I recall plenty of City fans saying much the same when we had just been relegated from the Premiership, and arrogantly thought we were going to go straight back up. History has proven me 100% correct. But if me not rating Shaw makes me a WUM, so be it.

Question;

When the season starts is this forum going to maintain the level of ridiculous tit-for-tat name calling and petty squabbling as it has espoused in recent months? I know visits to the Ricoh are becoming uniformly unsatisfying, the way that cyclical arguments are handled by some on here is not much better. The present has proved me 100% correct.

Shaw was a good player for us - he got a little more suspect in the last couple of seasons or so when he lost a yard or two of pace but a Richard Shaw would massively improve our current back line, all our current crop are more likely to fuck up than he would.

I notice you've just included Carlton Palmer in your all time best 11. I'd keep my head down before anyone else notices.

Football is a team game, and McCallister was a better player for us once we signed Carlton Palmer. The person asked for the best team, so I gave my best team. If they had asked for the best individuals then Palmer may not have been mentioned. Once again, genius lost on the lesser minded.

The inclusion of Carlton Palmer in your all time best ever Coventry City 11 highlights your genius admirably. Don't take the edge off by trolling; hint at some humility and the ability to at least appear to take the opinions of lesser mortals on board. It will be to your credit, you have already won and handled yourself impeccably but I think you can nudge it a shade further. Go get 'em.

As I said, it was based around the "team". If you can't see that some players play better alongside a player of lesser ability that's for you to deal with. Hadji is a better player than Palmer, but McCallister wasn't half the player when he played alongside Hadji that he was with Palmer. If the person had asked for the best 11 individuals, my picks would have been different. Take your time.

Except it was his season with Hadji that got him his move to Liverpool in what was considered by most to be his best season with us?

After 16 pages of discussing whether Shaw was a good player is anyone interested in whether he'll make a good assistant?

I think he will be a great appointment. Knows the club, fans, history etc. a good motivator and a mate of thorns. Between the two of them I'm sure they will come up trumps. We needed a new face in the dressing room and a fresh start will do everyone some good.

Who knows? Might be fairer to say that Millwall did ok when he was there. It is nice to have someone who holds the Club in high esteem working for us. He wasn't the greatest player, but loyal and a good man marker. Someone had a line on here stating the players they thought were shit, no matter how good they played and the players they thought were good, no matter how shit they played. That is how football works. We go to watch it with friends or family, discuss it and form opinions. We like some players and dislike others. Such opinions are not always easy to shift. Sometimes, forming half an opinion that flies in the face of conventional wisdom allows us to describe ourselves as purists and to belittle our fellow fan. The reason why people have taken umbrage with Real's, is the way he has gone about stating it. No one should really rise to his claims of genius ('McCallister', Carlton Palmer warranting a place in a 'best 11, from 'keeper to strikers'), he is looking to achieve bites. Welcome, Richard Shaw.

Give the bloke a chance he is here in a different role and should be judged on that, not what his playing career or his ability was. If the football industry hired on ability alone Gazza, Hoddle and Robson would of be still employed by clubs and Alex ferguson would be the local postman.

Not only is that a brilliant strike, but look how we built up to that goal. Pass, pass, pass, move and goal. Haven't seen one like that in a while. All the passes were in a forward movement :) would love for us to do that more often, well sideways sammy is out now so hopefully it will happen more often in the coming season.

Exactly, we played with some sort of confidence back then. Anything more than sideways passing this season, will be an improvement. But what a stike, hopefully he can teach that skill to some of our lot
