Pre-season training (2 Viewers)

When does this start?

Must be soon...and I though AT wanted his BANG BANG signings in by then?

Also, I assume that Crainie will report back for training...but will he have a contract? Will he sign a contract as he has no other club lined up?

And on the most important issue, how much above 210% will the lads be giving in training...will they be 'up for it'????

Thorn's plan was to have the lads back in on Sunday 1st, apparently a week before most teams are reporting back.

Can't believe people fell for his "bang bang bang" quote, we are not signing anyone, that's become very clear IMO.

If Cranie is going I think he would have somewhere lined up already.

A bit risky to leave it until his contract expires to look for clubs!

So how the fook have Ladbrokes got us as 3rd favourites for the league????

Easy give us cheap odds with no chance but if somehow we're up there amongst it then it suits the bookies nice and cheaply, instead of realistically putting us 25/1 and miraculously we somehow become contenders.

So why don't they quote every team under 16/1 say....surely odds are ALSO based on their assessment and probability???

One post-er on here (Gaz) argued that the fact that the bookies had us as one of the teams likely to struggle last season, and therefore, this proved that AT was up against it...yes, I'll go with that.

However, according to that theory, and the saying the bookies rarely get it wrong, surely we should expect AT to get us to challenge, when compared to relatively merits/strengths of the like of Hartlepool, Bury, Yoevil, Walsall etc...regardless of off-field issues????

Or do we just ignore the bookies as knowing fook all? (Despite their wealth through predicting such matters).

Craine will probably do a gunnar. one day he'll just appear in another teams kit and that will be that

I think the odds a kick off first game of the season will tell us what the bookies really think. At the moment we've had no transfer dealings, we're classed as a big team with a big budget so will always be tagged as a favourite, plus people might take a punt which will also shorten odds. Let's see where we are in August.

I did warn that the money is not about and at the end of the day Cranie, Keogh are the defenders who got relegated.
There's so much fish in the sea that players are struggling to find clubs.
If we keep what we went down with then we are worth those odds at the very least.

Good question...how good is our 1st XI as it stands?

Good enough to get us in the top 10? top 6? top 2? Or dare we think it......

Is this a weaker league this season?

We said that about the Championship last season, and look what happened there.

I have not seen as much of any of the other teams in this League to comment. Whilst all predictions are of course down to guesswork, if you don't know a little about the competition it is a complete stab in the dark. Is League 1 weaker this season than last? I don't know, not sure of the relevance. Did many people claim that last season's Championship was weaker than the previous season? I can only remember people categorically stating our team was considerably weaker than it had been the previous season. We were one of the three relegated teams, stand to reason that we would be in the top five or six prices before the season starts. That will all change, rest assured..!

The quality isn't in the lower leagues, but what they lack in quality they make up in determination and grit. We WILL have ugly games this season and the players and coach will need to wise up to it -fast!

why is everyone saying wheres the "bang bang bang" if there is any signings coming they have to agree contracts which take a little bit of time and your forget we have lost three of our targets.

We will not have a poor season because of the quality of our squad. We could have a bad season because of the quantity though. Most teams have smaller squads in Div3 so it won:t be as bad as last season

You say that but last season we used 31 players and that includes Henderson and Roberts vs Southampton on the last day of the season -Only 13 teams used more players than us in the championship and only Doncaster used mora than 40.

In league one 16 teams used more players than we did and 5 teams had 40 or more players so they obviously had decent squads and/or the finances to bring in loans.

"Only 13"? So...most of them, then?

That is a nice stat... :claping hands:

Well it's a majority, so technically, most is good-and really the "only" prefix was the unmerited spin that I was intending to highlight.

Ok how about this - on average League one teams (34.3 players used per club) used approximately 3 more players than championship clubs (31.5 players used per club) during the 2011/12 season.

How many teams played as many youth team players and for as many games as us though?

I doubt many did. I'm just trying to point out the league one clubs don't have smaller squads than championship clubs and that if we still have a small group of experienced players and lose some of them to injury we will struggle again. I think MMM had put some stats together that showed we played younger more inexperienced players for more often and longer than any other side in the championship.

Our current first eleven isn't that bad but a lose 3-4 players to injury and we will struggle.

and of course,

Wood, McPake, Deegan, Cameron, Christie, Cody,et al are never injured are they ?
