Looking at the remaining votes in PA most of these votes are in Phillie and Pittsburgh.

Probably quite Biden-centric, esp Philly. Pittsburgh prob a bit more Trump, but still Biden overall.

Not seeing too much about what a “disaster candidate” Joe Biden is anymore. Certain people gone very quiet all of a sudden.

Seems like the polling industry lives to fight another day too.

What the numbers are showing is that without COVID Trump would be running away with it. He’s an appalling candidate who has won by hiding

Maybe we’ll never know

If my mother had wheels she would have been a bike

Exactly the areas that are winning it for Trump would of turned out to vote against him anyway. Detroit, Philly, Atlanta etc were always likely to turn out and vote heavily against Trump.

The fact is if they’d had an Obama type candidate this would have been settled on the night rather than have to drag out with tiny margins of victory in the last few states. It should have been a McCain Obama type of showdown instead of this slug fest
This election was never going to be settled on the night simply because 33M postal votes were made in 2016 and at the moment it’s over 80M. Postal votes by their very nature are more difficult to count and therefore a longer drawn out process compared to counting votes at polling stations. I doubt anyone expected it to drag on this long but never in a million years was it going to be settled overnight in the current climate causing a massive increase in postal votes.

I think we do, let’s be honest. Biden has barely won this election

Trump's actions in the last 24 hours alone are enough to tell you this is absolute nonsense.

That's quite a big 'what if' tbf! Yes, coronavirus defined the election, but Trump only has himself to blame.

As for the 'hiding' stuff - it's a vintage Trump talking point (and be honest - if you could win an election by keeping a low profile, you'd be crazy NOT to do it). But it doesn't explain how Biden easily saw off a huge field of Democrats in the primaries. I'm no Biden fan, but he's been consistently under-rated from day 1, and it appears that's going to continue even as he saunters into the White House.

We all know how Biden won the primary and it was certainly not down to anything he did-the party did it for him on Super Tuesday. He has the most obvious cognitive decline I’ve ever seen

Out of interest, what was the party's motivation for conspiring to nominate an objectively terrible candidate in cognitive decline?

I mean, alternatively you could just be wrong, but humour me here

Because they didn’t want Bernie Sanders to be the nominee. He was going to win the bulk of Super Tuesday states, they saw that and hence Buttigieg and Klobuchar were frantically persuaded to drop out and support Biden barely 48 hours before the Tuesday votes. Warren stayed in, Bernie won a few but Biden won more and the rest is history.

The higher ups would always want a corporate centrist over a progressive.

I can’t believe it’s still going on. The outstanding votes now are the size of an average U.K. constituency and it takes them a couple of hours. Just count them and be done with it. Nevada saying they might not be done till Sunday is madness.

Oh, you're one of those guys.

Well, maybe the Dems did decide to shoot themselves in the foot with a dumb conspiracy in aid of a crap candidate for two straight election cycles. Or maybe the party is just more centrist than you think, and Biden is surprisingly popular. I know which one I'm going for (and which one today's results backs up)

I broadly agree with you on the riots, but disagree with you on Covid - it was clear from the start that Trump wanted more than anything to ignore it completely and campaign as if it didn't exist. I think many people have voted for Trump out of a willingness to do the same, but that's an accident rather than a deliberate campaign strategy.

Were it not for his insane hubris (and the complete failure to control the virus) he would probably have won easily. Instead he infected himself, destroyed his own economy, and saw the virus directly cost him the election.

*Trumps handling of the only major disaster during his presidency cost him the election.

Or maybe I do actually know what I’m going on about. The Sanders campaign targeted a solid 30-40% of the vote because the field was crowded with ‘moderates’. This approach won him the first 3 contests, Biden finished 4th or worse in some and second in the other. He won the 4th, but the Super Tuesday polling showed Bernie would scoop up a huge number of the delegates with the moderate vote split. Cue phone calls being made to get Buttigieg and Klobuchar to quit and endorse Biden immediately. This move gave Biden their votes without him lifting a finger.

In most of those states Biden had no or little campaign staff, and he didn’t campaign in most of them. Being very polite I think you may be talking out of your backside

That’s not true of every leader who has faced COVID though, so it must be down to Trumps response. Which makes it the same as any other policy decision. Not a get out clause.

It has taken COVID to highlight it-up till then he was polling pretty well all things considered

I don't deny the underlying narrative that the party united around one moderate candidate to squeeze out Bernie, but you make it sound like a coincidence they picked Biden. They could have just as easily picked Buttigieg, who'd already won Iowa, or Harris, who impressed at the early debates. Instead they picked Biden - not just because of his status in the party, but because of his dominant performance in SC where they saw he had the demographic appeal to flip states like, oh I dunno, Georgia.

It makes no sense to say the party would deliberately pick a senile candidate with no mass appeal, when they had so many other options available. Unless of course, you have an axe to grind or you're one of the many people who have underestimated the next president's appeal. Admittedly, I don't see it myself, but I have to admit it's there.

There’s some bollox on here. Covid isn’t the reason Trump’s going to lose.

Trump’s mishandling of Covid, along with his daily lies, misinformation, polarization of minorities and hate-mongering is why Biden is going to win comfortably.

Trump created the reality that; You could’ve took a shit in a paper bag and wrapped Biden’s tie around it.. and it would’ve won.

He still managed to get 70 million US citizens to vote for him
