I wonder if he could be the difference here. Sheaf and Hamer are our strength but neither clears up in front of the defence like Kelly. You'd have to lose O'Hare which could isolate the forwards but our problem is shipping needless goals. Could this be the answer?

Was literally just about to start the same thread. One difference this season, apart from the obvious jump in quality, is not having Kelly in front of the defence.

Not sure who would make way though....

of course he is, but if you want to play Kelly I'd prefer sheaf moving forward and hammer creating off of Kelly winning
O’Hare makes the runs beyond and links midfield to attack same as Shipley done sheaf is a central midfielder not a bomb on CAM

We are crying out for some leadership and experience especially towards the end of games.
I’d hope he’s carrying a knock as he’s exactly what the team need at the minute and should be playing if he’s fit.
That’s not a slight on sheaf or hamer at all ad they’ve both been good but we just need an older head on the pitch.

Tbf while playing Kelly, Gus, and Sheaf in a midfield 3 would be pretty defensive, it would be solid enough to allow Dabo and Giles/McCallum to play as more progressive full backs, thus retaining some of the threat of them as wingbacks. If they were providing the width, O'Hare could stay central to form more of a diamond with 2 up top...

I don't think 3 at the back is the problem but this would be a decent plan B...

I love Kelly. He's been wonderful for us and imo he deffo has a role to play this season. But something is amiss. He played nearly every pre season game he was fit but now not getting a look in.

Midfield is good for us at the moment. Sheaf and Hamer (if we stay up) are our future there with o hare. Kelly will play a part I'm sure and that leadership and experience is what we are missing. Today for example I thought sheaf 15 to go died a death

Need to start valuing points more and bringing Kelly on late on in games to help see us through. Convinced that the Forest aberration doesn’t happen if he’s on the pitch. Likewise yesterday. May say that they’re individual mistakes but I think he’d bring a calmness allowing us to squeeze out points.

Hamer and Sheaf are getting better in each game and are building an understanding. I think he is now back up.
I agree he seems 3rd choice, my concern is no one is screening the defence like we used to have. Look how many goals we have conceded this season! we are scoring more than we were in L1 the issue is the other end of the pitch. Maybe all try all 3?

both of our recent defeats are down to one individual error first by max 2nd by o,hare having kelly on the field wont stop either of those.
At the moment Hamer and Sheaf are robins first choice central midfield i dont see that changing any time soon

Fair points and mistakes are regrettable however it's all the other goals were shipping that's worrying.

It does feel like we could use that experience, which is either going to come from Fadz or kelly. Fadz in the 3 CB's hasn't been great and we've been conceding loads whether he plays or not and he's always got that penalty lurking from the lack of pace.

So without that you've got to look at Kelly, but how to fit him in?

Dropping O'Hare and moving Hamer up a bit is an option but O'Hare offers something different.

Go back to one up top and play Hamer alongside O'Hare with Kelly and Sheaf behind? Two up top has seemed to make us more competitive.

Go to a back four with the three of them in front of them and O'Hare supporting the strikers?

Things to look at in training I reckon

Can’t drop Giles arguably one of our best players so far this season. I think Kelly should be in the team but where If we play 3 CBS and wing backs.

Hamer ranking high for creativity, Sheaf high on winning the ball back. I think it's difficult to squeeze Kelly back in. Maybe in a 4231 but that means sacrificing a striker.

I’m beginning to think having Kelly in front of our back five is a must but at the expense of who ? Both Hamer and Sheaf are almost shoe ins and we look better with two strikers.

Not sure what the methodology is for counting that, is it just number of tackles completed or is it weighted for time spent on the pitch? Sheaf didn't start the first 2 which makes it look potentially more impressive. Likewise Hamer missed 3 through suspension.

There was a time I thought this, then I remembered Oxford away (was it?) last season with that crazy attempted slide tackle late on, and remembered he's not exactly the best game manager.

Pushing Hamer forward would be a bad idea imo. He's the only one who can link the back 5 with the front 3 like Walsh did last season. Realistically if Kelly comes in with this formation then he's going to be replacing Sheaf, who generally looks to be a better player.

No idea, I'm just taking it at face value rightly or wrongly
