Walsh (11 Viewers)

I know I'm dragging over old ground here but humour me, it's International break and we're not allowed outside.

We now play 352, Walsh would be a perfect fit alongside Sheaf and Hamer. He's still not signed the contract offered in the summer and hasn't played a minute for Bristol.

Will we put an offer in for him in Jan and would they be tempted over loosing him for nothing in the summer (I know they'd get compensation but it would only be minimal as he wasn't bought through their youth system)?

You've missed out a factor - the player! If we are struggling in a relegation battle would he want to come here? I'm sure he'd have other offers. Also in Jan he would still command a fee, albeit reduced with only a few months left. Some players actually like running down their contract if they believe there is interest and they'll get larger signing on fees in the summer.

In all seriousness though, would we not be a little overloaded in midfield? Could any money we may or may not have be better spent elsewhere given that we can’t play Kelly, Hamer, Sheaf and Walsh together? I mean, he would be a great option to have and if finances were more robust then maybe worth it. Not sure with our finances we can afford another midfielder (when we’ve already bought a replacement who’s looking ok).

His situation at Bristol is interesting though.

We don’t know how good he would be in the Championship, last seasons best defence in League 1 is now the second worst in the entire football pyramid.

He’s been at Bristol City for a few years and hardly played

He was good here last season but is he championship quality ? you have to ask despite Bristol City wanting him back etc etc why hasn’t he featured yet, don’t think he’s made the bench yet,
I know he has had some sort of injury but assume he’s over that now. Personally I’d take the risk but it would have to at minimum cost after all he could available for free at the end of the season.

Our problem isn’t creating or scoring goals (though some sitters still go begging), it’s the suicidal defending. While Marosi has been shakier I’m not even sure a better keeper would fix that problem never mind Walsh

I think one of the issues is that Dabo, one of our best players has been out for most of the season so we've not had an established RWB in there. Our LWB is also great going forward but suspect defensively, you could remedy that by switching McCallum over there but then you need more creative payers in the middle.

Walsh is injured that’s why he’s “not played a minute”. Back after the international break

And the manager has said before he’s key to their plans. He’s not going anywhere.
Yes, my Bristol city fans say the same regarding his injury - still not back yet and they hope to see him play.
Whether he can compete at championship we probably won't know for a month or so (or whenever he is back).
Would like him back, be delighted if he returned, but probably time to move on (unless MR knows better).

But how long is it going to take to rehab from that injury, even then they're 5th and not going to want to upset the ones that have got them there by chucking them in. If he took the manager's word for it then the deal would already have been signed. I only see him getting significant playing time there if they fall out of the playoff race. If they're still up there I don't think he plays much and then I think he's off in the summer. I do think BC will be tempted by a reasonable offer with a chunk on re-sale. Obviously what is available to us could be an issue, just need more game on sky.

Havent they just had one of their midfielders ruled out for the season?

I agree he’s be perfect for the 532, just can’t see it happening.

Not according to this, the only other midfielder out is the one that's been out since the summer too. Walsh will have to compete against him when he returns too.

I don't really see it a probable but I think it is an outside chance. All the players involved the last couple of years have said how much they love it here, O'Hare returned even though there were offers of more money and playing abroad on the table and it's possible the circumstances don't fit for him in Bristol. None of my Bristol City mates are salivating at seeing him, the stories about him are amplified here because he was such a big player for us, they only mention him when I bring it up asking what the situation is and the answer is invariably just "Injured", no big clam rot get him in there.

Baker on the right McSheffrey on the left.

Love it and let’s get Dongle and SBK back on here and reintroduce the Jerkit emoji

1 small issue - WAGES

A few on here think we’ve done our budget I still think he’s held some back I see Liam Walsh as being way out of our reach tho

I think something of this nature won't happen this year (and probably not ever) but IF we stay up as part of the squad evolution a number of players will have to be moved on and if you can sell/release them and bring in someone like Walsh I'd it. For example Allen, Shipley, Kelly, Hilssner (although not seen yet), Jobello, Kasta in exchange for say Walsh and one or two of a similar quality would be a worthwhile trade-off IMO

Probably number three on the list after CB and GK I think. But still worth improving if Walsh or similar was a possibility. But it’s not so...
I don't think you find a goalkeeper better than Marosi that is also able to play it with his feet too without spending a lot of money. I also think the CBs will improve as we go on, although I would like 1 more in. Rose is still coming back from injury and stepping up a level so think this is just teething pans, Hyam is growing all the time and Osti is just a quality young player who will easily have a good PL career. Just could do with that Championship nouse right now. By Jan we might have adjusted already.

Do agree with this, lets hope he refuses to sign on.

If we stay up the likes of Allen, Biamou, Baka and to be honest Kelly will be moved on and replaced. If we go down we'll need them to try and go straight back up while Hamer, O'Hare and one or both of Walker and Godden would be sold to be replaced with lesser equivalents.

Either way Walsh is definitely not on this season and probably after that if he breaks into their 1st XI

Has he had to have surgery?

I think we lack something at CB, maybe organisationally. I like Maroši, but given a free reign I think I’d like to see someone a bit more commanding at the back. I’m not sure the “let the CBS deal with crosses” tactics work at this level.

Was speaking to a mate who’s a Bristol city supporter and they’ve heard nothing about him,Wondered why he was kept and not sold or loaned out again.
Not been on the bench either,Strange one imo!
Would love him back on loan with a view to permanent in January.

He’s. Injured. He’s been injured since he left us.

If Walsh is available on a free, then assuming we can match his wage demands, we'd be mad not to sign him.
Like O'Hare, once under contract, ccfc will have a valuable asset, aswell as possessing his undeniable talent for the betterment of the team.
