When did referring to games as gameweek or matchday become a thing?

Watching the Europa League and it's been constant and only really noticed it the last few months.

Never really remember it, it's always been by the date.

I think it's definitely more of a European term. Definitely has creeped in to the language here.

Gameweek is probably been popolarised by Fantasy Premier League. I do know in some leagues abroad they refer to a gameweek as a 'round'.
