High teens!!!! Have you ever done a bleep test??? Regardless of being top sportsmen most of there training won't be based around endurance which is what the bleep test is, it will be more interval training high intensity I would hope.
So if they all achieved around @ least 14. That's prob super fit for league one.

All the same its no good unless you can then adapt to actual match fitness quickly enough, so bring on the new season..

I have done many bleep tests. I've known people to get 15 in it as 16 year olds. I know that the England cricket team requires everyone to get above 15 to play for them. But I believe as a profesional footballer, they should be doing better then a 16 year old boy.

Just finished reading one of Paul Merson's books and he ridicules the beep tests.

Said when Wegner came in was shuttles and high intensity training as Johnamcp has stated.

Ok, to get in the police and fire service you used to have to achieve about 10. Now I imaginine these guys need to prove they are fit in order to be selected! I'm not gonna get into who's this or that it might even be worth a google see what other international sports levels are required.. but having taken part in these many times @ county level rugby, 15 and I can guarantee most would be hanging out there arse....

I have checked and apparently wes hoolahan, completed level the test, level 21. And also many other premier league footballers have also completed the tape. Surely if we want
Success we should get the players up to this standard

A better test would be the Chester step test or most VO 2 max test. Then u will get a better level of fitness result from each player.

I agree these guys should be super fit yes but there are better and different ways to test a player's fitness a lot more upto date. And are very simple.

Look @ something on you tube called insanity.... Fitness like you don't know. In a space of your living room. High intensity interval training, how many of those that achieved level 21 would achieve doing half an hour of the max cardio videos!!!!

Premiership rugby referees are expected to hit 18 on a bleep test surely we should expect the same or better

Most, really? Some may get that but most is a huge exaggeration.

Last time I did the bleep test aged 14 most of us got between 8-11 with only a handful managing 12+, nobody got close to 15. Think some 1 or 2 got to level 13. This is just in your average PE class made up of a variety from the fit to the unfit.

I think the majority of people drop our just before level 10, of course there are a few exceptions that can get upto the higher levels. But you can't say that most teenagers et between 13-17

The only thing Michael Doyle could do was run, so him getting a good score on a bleep test is not at all surprising. If it was a passing accuracy competition, then it would be shocking to see him near the top.

hope this helps.........

im a PE teacher in a secondary school in birmingham and i also do the insanity work out (which is stupidly hard but fun) 15 is what a fit 15/16 year old boy should be getting. football players should be smashing 15 with ease. if they are not get me in because i get higher then that!

When I was 15 I struggled to get so much as a 6-nothing like PE teachers to rub it in and destroy people's confidence.

is every bleep test the same? i've been looking online to get one as i coach junior football and lots of different ones out there, i assume they are all the same in terms of a measuring tool though? same distance, same timings, same levels etc etc

Suffice to say the majority got 8-10, with the West Midland XC runners getting 13. Should also add-I played hockey for the school and so on without problems; just endless running really wasn't my forte. The worst in the class was a 4.5, by the way ;)

Bleep test was one of the few things in PE I was any good at, so I was then one of the few who didn't mind it. Cross-country too, as it was basically an hour dossing about the field. Nothing screams endurance and stamina like the kids stopping halfway round for a crafty fag.

I guarantee, most fit teenages between the ages of13-17 will hit 12-16. I haven't done it for years, but when a few years ago when I was 16 I remember being pleased when I reached 14. I'd say I was fitter now than I was back then, so could arguably hit 15/16 now. Then I'm not on the same level as these guys who will al hit 18/19 plus I'm convinced of it

Did the bleep test 2 years ago for GCSE PE, So this is a group of 16 year olds. I got just over 12 with a calf injury, with the average being around 13. We had a cross country runner getting level 16, a badminton player getting 17 and a boxer getting to level 19! So i dont know where people are getting level 8 from. I did that when i was 11.

Also, i'm pretty sure there was a video doing the rounds of David Beckham completing it, then doing it again immediately after and completing it again.

The test is quite important at the start of pre-season. It is not to build up fitness but to measure how well the players have been looking after themselves over the summer. Of course shuttles and sprints are used in the majority to improve fitness. These improve anaerobic fitness while at the same time boosting basic aerobic fitness which is what the bleep test tests.

The fact that you say this was a GCSE class makes me think these are teens with on the whole above average level fitness, also I saw your post about playing Saturday football an what not so you are obviously above average fitness so would be able to score high.

I did it in year 9 when PE was compulsory for everyone so we had a mixed class from the people that represented Coventry in sport all the way down to those who had rarely ever done any form of exercise.

The average in that class was 8-11, with only handful (about 25%) getting above that. These 25% are probably the people that likely will go on to do PE at GCSE so an average for a GCSE class doing the bleep test would likely be 12+

You are comparing a GCSE class to the rest of the population which is where you are going wrong. Go and pick 50 14-16 year at random from an entire school and you will get a better estimate of what the average fitness levels would be.

Ok I get what everyone is saying and everybody has a point or knows someone who can achieve excellent scores...
The point I think is important is, these players aren't the next mo farahs. We don't want skinny lads that can run all day, we want lads who can hold there own, put in a decent tackle n be able to up a gear with or without the ball.with pace. This is not achieved from running it achieved by explosive interval training. which is also why the bleep test is crap. It doesn't account for height n weight.... It's not a true fitness test.
If I was in preseason now the last thing I would want to be doing is endlessly running!!!! And running n running.... It would bore the arse off me. as I said previous and the school teacher said, half hour of insanity then a fitness session based around stop start drills @ pace...... More related to football. Then weekly wire them up and do Chester step test which measures all sorts. Heart rate, recovery, Vo2 max. then you will get a far better result level of fitness than a test that is now very out of date.
Remember fitness is about how quickly you recover!!!!

i can confirm that i changed my year 11 PE class to to the bleep test all in the name of this thread!

out of 15 students mixed of boys and girls i had........

one boy get 6.3 ( made out he had a bad foot)
to girls get 8.2
and the rest got over 10.

these students are not the fittest in the world and at least half of them smoke.

i completed it with them and along with two students got 14.4 and im 26 and play sunday league football.

People who smoke and drink heavily and school but still get over 10 in the bleep test pissed me off no end.
