Was Shipley injured ? (4 Viewers)

injured / tactical / ill ?
I know he got a knock early in the game but it didn’t look enough for him to come off and I thought he was poor before his knock.
I haven't heard any post match comments - did a Robins give any insight ?

So he was injured. Unless it has been injury related, has MR ever made a sub in the first half?

Whilst he wasn’t really involved, he also wasn’t playing particularly poorly. Honestly, I wouldn’t have been surprised if it was Sheaf who came off who had played some wild passes before Hamer’s introduction.

I can’t remember ever seeing a player look so out his depth as Shipley this season
He just looks shot of confidence. He needs something to happen like it did for max. A tap in, a worldie cross, a crunching 50/50 where he smashes the fuck outa their player, emerges with the ball. Anything. But at the moment he looks like he's running away from the ball

It's a conundrum how some fans view Shippers
All clubs like to have players who are one of 'their own' but quite often if that player doesn't play well he takes a disproportionate amount of stick
Just look at other forums and you can see fans at most clubs are the same
Shippers loves the club and does lots of things that some other players don't bother with but it's still not enough to avoid fallout
Just an interesting view really
Players like Shippers are usually more valued when looking back on their careers when we all mainly remember the good days

I never thought he would make it at league 1 but he proved me wrong (on goals and assists), this year I think he has found the jump to big. I’ll never question how much he loves the club but that should cloud judgement as to whether he is good enough at Championship level.
Regardless of ability one thing I don’t understand is him looking knackered after an hour when he plays.

He didn’t look right from the start and the game was passing him by.
Regardless we improved massively once Hamer was on the pitch with his creativity and tenacity in midfield.
Shipley again is another one who is decent in L1 but the champ is a massive jump.

Sheaf occasionally. Allen often.

A midfield centre pairing of Kelly & Hamer with O’Hare mixed in is good enough for the top half of the Champ.

Sheaf & Shipley with Allen?

Not so much.

Not so much.

Sheaf, Shipley & Allen played together & were all excellent against one of the best teams in the league.

Agree with @larry_david about Shipley, looks a completely different player to the one who played & scored against Swansea. He's had similar opportunities to take the long shot on or thread a through ball in games since & this is usually his strength but he's taken the wrong option time & again.
Needs to somehow get that confidence back.

Btw, clearly got injured yesterday, I said it on the match thread that he was limping heavily a few minutes before the substitution.

I don’t think I’ve ever disagreed with better days before, but this is a first.

First off , yesterday he clearly took a knock and had to come off , Robins doesn’t make first half subs unless he absolutely has too. Shipley didn’t really do anything before the knock , but it’s been the same all season, he either hides and does nothing , or what he does do just ends up being wasted and simply not good enough for championship football.

The difference between sheaf and Shipley for example , both playing the first season in this league. But you can see there is a player in Sheaf , he has got something there and does as many good things as he does poorly while trying to adjust to this level of football.

Shipley just looks out of his depth , he may love the club which is great , but we all the love club aswell, but we would all look out of our depth playing this level of football. He just isn’t good enough , I don’t dislike the bloke , he seems genuinely attached to the club, but this is just one step too far for him.

Hope he finds his level and has a good career but if we stay up I don’t want another season of watching him give the ball away and getting dis possessed every time someone passes to him.

100% agree.

He's completely shot of confidence. Folks on here and whatever social media really don't help.

He's not shite. Robins has put his arm around him given him ample chances.
Think Shipley will repay him. Just needs taking out of firing line and he will come back stronger.

He's one of our own. This is where crowds really help. He was shocking in a few games last year. But we still sang his name from terraces.

But surely there is a reason why he’s still here and hasn’t been bought by other clubs , unlike Maddison , Bayliss, Stevenson , Thomas , bigi etc etc

Don't really disagree with you
Just that players like George Thomas Ben Stevenson and Tom Bayliss looked pretty good here, were rated and moved out pretty quickly to clubs higher up the pyramid at the time
None has so far fulfilled their potential that led to their moves. Maybe they never will
Shippers stayed and helped us move up the divisions
I really hope Shippers can push on, adapt and improve but time will tell

Its funny when you see ratings for the last game. Biamou gets 7 (and even an 8) for a 3 minute cameo. Shipley just has no back story and is not fashionable.

Like Telfer managers who work with players like Shipley will tend to support and play them as he is someone who will work and do whatever the manager wants

You need players like Shipley in a squad like ours

What's your gut instinct is there a bit of trouble between Robins and Shipley is he not happy with the effort ships is putting in this season?

The opposite I would guess

I don't think there is any issue
Shippers had been a regular starter and has a good attitude
But with so many games coming thick and fast he's looking to use players that suit whatever set up we are using based on the opposition that day

Bayliss definitely one it would've been interesting to see develop further here.

I agree with Grendel, you need players like Shipley in the squad. You are all entitled to your view about his performances but the only opinion that matters is the manager and I will defer to him over the experts on here.

He would have prospered. It’s unfortunate for him that he’s had injuries and a move that hasn’t quite worked out for him.

He’s getting some meaningful minutes now at Preston with the 5 subs.

Would be a better option than what we have atm and Robins was always a big supporter of his - after his debut against Cheltenham think he started all but 2 games until he was sold

Did he actually have covid? He's looked sluggish for a while, and like you say it's unlike him to not take a shot when he's in range.
