Sunil Chetri signs for Sporting Lisbon

another missed opportunity

we should have signed him

As in when he was on trial here

Sporting state they will use the Indian captains link to tap into the Indian Market to develop upcoming players

I don't know why we didn't sign him, obviously had pedigree. Was he on trial when Coleman was gaffer? Might explain a lot!

you what? they are far superior technically

mid table portoguese team would rip most of championship, only maybe top 6 could stand a chance
That's nice, but he won't be playing for a mid table Portuguese team, he'll be playing in the Portuguese second division.

Has anybody got a "big time" measuring device?

So if a foreign team signs a player that won't be playing in their 1st team and it might be a player we might have been interested in it means we have missed a good player?

I have always wondered why India, a country with over one billion people have never produced a decent player or has never qualified for a world cup.

priorities i guess, football is not seen as one of their top sports, although i think once one player becomes a househols name and is seen to be earning a decent living from the game things will change and we will see more and more indian players. similar to china/japan etc who are producing more top quality players all the time as the game develops in their countries

Cricket has and will always be the number one sport in India. They tried to do a football equivalent of the IPL a few months ago with the likes of Hernan Crespo playing but it got postsponed, maybe due to lack of interest? In China snooker and football are the number one sports so maybe India with follow in their footpath and although it will remain behind cricket it may produce some players.

He's signed for Sporting Lisbon B, as already mentioned, and its purely a marketing move, not for football reasons.

Maybe because 55% of the country live in poverty, they also prefer cricket

i wouldn't like to guess at percentages, but a lot of south america has always been in poverty and look at some of the footballers and teams they have produces - brazil, argentina, uraguay a few years back etc

Agreed, but all of south america are historically mad on football.

So he's actually signed for the reserves of a good team? We've 'missed out' on the Indian Ronnie Ekelund.
