Future managers from current players (2 Viewers)

Obviously many players go on to management roles within the game once they retire. So, my question is, who do we think out of our current crop of players, if any, look like they could go on to be a manager in the game after their playing careers are over.

Anyone look a likely candidate?

Godden’s training to be a mortgage advisor. Don’t think he’ll stay in the game.

Hard one from the current crop. Kelly maybe, reads the game well.

Looking forward to Doyle gets into coaching /management. Hope we offer him a role. He comes across far more level headed in interviews than his reputation would leave you believing. Also one of a only a handful of ex players that still talk about the club in glowing terms

The clue here is whether as a player they have shown the ability to max out on the natural footballing ability that they were born with. Jackie Charlton, great manager, absolutely made the best of what he had been given as a player. Bobby Charlton not so good as a manager-super players sometimes struggle to understand why lesser mortals can't do what they can. Good managers of the future also have to show leadership on the pitch.

I would have gone for Godden too but he is obviously smart enough to build another career. McFadzean is the one that appears to fit the bill.

Incidentally I would have tipped Rooney to do well, because under Fergie he was smart enough to curb the individualism he had shown at Everton and also curb his ego, to play for the team as instructed. Shows he was not stupid, like a lot of big stars.

Doyler is the answer to the question though.

I think Kelly is a different level in terms of IQ compared the rest. Remember a couple of years ago in pre-season they did some of the player interviews and one of the questions was who could be Prime Minister. They all said Kelly.

Based on how he plays I'd throw James' name in the hat too. Seems like an intelligent player.

Matty James (not a manager something else around football)
Liam Kelly
Jodi Jones (not a manager but something else around football)
Kyle McFadzean
