So if we’d signed Ollie Watkins Mk 2 you’d be moaning we should not bother and stick with biamou

Fine that’s your view - I think differently

Who is the Watkins Mk 2? No doubt you’d be all over it saying why have we spent all this on an unproven player.

I’m confused, who is this Ollie Watkins Mk 2 you are referring to G?

I an daring to suggest it’s possible if we have a paid scouting network they might find a player whose never played in the championship who might actually perform in it rather than just say we have to put up with what we have

Given that we're widely acknowledged to have one of the best recruitment teams around at this level I'm sure if it was possible they'd have found it.

the network that’s signed two forwards who are still behind biamou in the pecking order and decided they could not find anyone better than Bakayoko in the summer so resigned him?

Any decent Strikers at lower league level still cost more than what Sisu are willing to pay. Every team in the league would love to sign a gem that turns out to be an Ollie Watkins, the reality is it doesn’t happen very often

We should definitely have signed a cheap version of Oli Watkins instead of James. It really is that easy, so I just don't get why we didn't do it... ...

Yep. We should really have signed the next James Maddison, Ben Godfrey, Said Benrahma and Adam Webster while we were at it. Absolute disgrace that we didn't.

Yes.
Finding them & affording them is very different.

We did this earlier in the thread but looking at the recruitment other teams did in January the only realistic one that fits your criteria is Elijah Adebayo.

Could we have outbid both Luton & Huddersfield to get him?
Is he worth the risk given he's only ever played in League 2?
Luton drew 1-1 today & he didn't even make it off the bench so is he guaranteed to be better than Gyökeres?
If he is, where does he fit in when Godden & Walker are fit? Is he better than them too? Or is he content to be 3rd choice?

Recruitment is nowhere near as simplistic as you're making out.

No one is saying it’s easy but in the end if we do down James ismy signing and the loans have gone home - but hey Max will sign a new deal so the promotion race is back on

It's very difficult to plan for your two first choice strikers to have long-term injuries.

I imagine James was signed because he's a good player and the situation arose. I highly doubt it was a choice between him and highly rated striker.

Max Biamou P19 Gls 3
Troy Deeney P 18 Gls 7

How much in wages have those extra 4 goals cost.

Max is playing at his highest level yet. Troy Deeney a seasoned striker at Championship and Premiership level. Arguably playing in a better team so should score more.

Strikers are ridiculously expensive. Also track records are not a guarentee. Exhibit A: Kevin Drinkell. Great player score everywhere except Coventry.

A lot of those goals have been penalties as well. Max was our weak link today but he was still better today than Deeney was. However I would back Deeney to stick away that absolute sitter Max missed

I’m convinced - biamou is better than Deeney - now we agree non league players can make a step up to championship level can we find someone better

I am not saying he is better you idiot. I am pointing out a few extra goals can cost a lot of money. Money we don't have.

I sometimes wonder if you are a supporter of the team or just a moaning critic trying to massage your own ego.

Yes non league players can be found and step up. But considering the amount of teams out there and the amount of scouts: They aren't unearthed very often.

Biamou played better than both Deeney and Gray today. He is third choice, and having to play because of Godden and Walkers injuries.

Its ridiculous to try and compare Watford first choice striker to our third choice striker in terms of wages and output.

Edit. Just checked Deeney has 1 goal from open play and 6 goals from the penalty spot. Gray has scored just once in 30 games. Ergo, Biamou has scored more from open play than ex PL Deeney and Gray combined

And maybe that same scouting network have said they haven't found anyone who they'd think would give better value for money.

Pick a lane.

You were the one that brought up a scouting network capable of finding anyone better.

Then two seconds later berate the exact same network for for not finding anyonw to replace Biamou and for resigning Baka

Flatters to deceive so much that the opposition focused their efforts and preparation on him. Strangely Deeney omitted to mention the fact that Clive Platt used to play up front for us. What with that being such a relevant point.

Deeney was presented with his opportunity to snatch three points when Matty James lost possession in his own half, but the on-loan Leicester midfielder was the focal point of Watford’s preparation.

“We tried to stop Matty James getting on it,” admitted Deeney; “he’s obviously got a lot of quality and he can dictate.

How many games after Kelly's injury did James sign and start playing... I still think Kelly is the big miss here
