THIS. I believe some fans think we want to be anti thorn or negative. If I truly thought he was the answer for the long term future of the club I would back the man to the hilt. I think we need a young fresh approach , this division is full of managers with far more knowledge of this league than thorn, its not his fault, he has been thrown in the deep end by sisu just to save money, i wonder if all those on here backing him will be doing the same in three months? The mans health has failed already, in his own best interests ( he will not accept it is) he should think about whats best for all , but he won't , but your long term health is far more important than money or football. I await the grammar corrections and abuse.

This is of course for many the problem.
What is the problem with Thorn? Well here's a few problems;
Worst manager since 1917 (a statistical fact beyond argument)
Manager that has taken us to the lowest league position in 50 years
The worst communicator I have ever seen in over 40 years of watching the club
Your reference to "shocking owners" is of course very ironic. Yes they are shocking. They appointed the worst manager we have ever had. They continued to be shocking as they retained his services.
His supporters use the lack of resource as his defence. Nothing to do with his ability of course as that cannot be defended.
So we move on and we enter the new season. I have not even bothered to read whatever mindless guff he is churning out - I have ceased to listen - he is incapable as a communicator and I hope Shaw will take this on going forward. However, this is a new season, a new league and with it there will be a new expectation.
Now supporters will want success. They see Bury and Stevenage and they will demand victory. The charitable status many afforded Thorn last season is over. Now we are into the results business. If he succeeds all well and good and we will just have to tolerate the media embarrassments that will no doubt come and we will be endearing towards them. However if defeats come so will discontent and scrutiny will be applied.
This is as it should be. This is the life of the football manager and I am sure Andy Thorn is relishing the challenge.

The adulation for Thorn is perplexing. It seems that some value the continued employment of the Clueless One at the expense of the club they profess to support.

He had a belter as caretaker. He had a rough start to the season but learnt from his mistakes. One reason I have time for him is that he managed to keep morale high in a team lost at sea.
If we are not pushing by Jan then yes, a rethink is in order. As for the friendlies, flippin' heck. Win lose or draw... Its not about that. Its about being ready for the start of the season.

Why have better managers not been giving the same backing based upon their honeymoon period?
That fair enough although I wouldn't say he had a belter - I also think when he was caretaker credit must be given to boothroyd for organising the side as a unit.
Last season was a joke from top to bottom and start to finish.
Personally AT lost me finally when he lost his rag and scapegoated Biggy after throwing him in the deep end.

Credit to AB for taking us close to the bottom 3 with the squad he had at his disposal? We were losing nearly every game. AT came in and we only lost 2 out of 10 games. This saved us. But you say thanks to AB.

I don't understand the AT worship anymore, how can he have people feeling so sorry for him?
This is the lowest I have felt about the team since I started supporting them and have lost all interest in what is happening, this has nothing to do with the owners anymore other than keeping the worst manager in his job, we were well and truly relegated months before the end of the season, and any other manager would have been read the riot act by the fans, he came out critizising players in public saying we lost because of them, our strikers couldn't hit a barn door etc, how is that motivating the team and players?
If they are to blame then whos fault is that?sisu's?
They don't take the training, they don't do the tactics, they don't do the player motivation, they don't tell him who to buy?
The buck stops with him regarding the team's performance and in my view he is nowhere near good enough on any of these fronts, he is a very poor option taken by sisu to try and save money, yet he has cost them more by not getting the team organised enough to hold onto points throughout last season from winning/drawing positions that could have saved us from the mess we find ourselves in.
If you hate sisu then you have to hate everything they have done to this club, and that includes keeping an inept manager in employment in the capacity he is in.

As Thorn says it's simply an exercise to get players steadily up to match fitness for the seasons KO. I hate it how everyone jumps onto every small detail of what Thorn says and puts some big analysis into it, mountains and mole hills.

In deed and the rest as they say, is History. However, AB had us at depths outside the relegation zone, thorn had us relegated. AB's squad was hardly phenomenal with Platt and Juke upfront - but with those too - we did for a while occupy the upper region of the table - a place never nearly witnessed under your messiah.
errrrm wasn't a certain Marlon King in that side?

I wouldn't say I'm Thorn's biggest fan but I also wouldn't solely blame him for last season. We lost three very good players in Westwood, Gunnarson and King and he wasn't allowed to replace them. He was eventually allowed to bring in McDonald but after possibly missing out on Le Fondre and having to sacrifice a defender in Turner. As the season was starting last year, most people seem to think we were going to go down wit a seriously weakened squad. So I don't see why people are surprised it happened.
Someone mentioned it before, lets see how this season goes. He has lost good players again but it appears he's been given some leaway to wheel and deal this time. I'm gonna be supporting the team and that includes Thorn. If this season is a failure (in bottom 10 teams at Xmas) then I too will probably be calling for his head but I don't blame there is a much bigger picture when looking at last year's failings.

No we were starting to go off the rails around that Christmas period,when the new board Kicked in . It took something like six weeks to get Marlon through the door,like there was a real Battle to get the new Guys to sanction it .I believe that had a big impact on AB's performance from then on in, to have had them going so well and realising the board wer'nt in it with him.God we were ugly ,but the confidence he inspired was commendable.You could possibly argue that Kings arrival may have upset the dressing room also.

The most frustrating thing about this thread being that many hold different views as to why last season was as poor as it was. But without question our squad simply wasn't strong and deep enough to ensure survival.
However, this season, it appears that Thorn does have resources sufficient to compete, and therefore this season will be the real litmus test for him.
He at least deserves the chance to prove himself in that context, without wild prejudice greeting even the slightest action or utterance

Fair comment. His health is a worry - however I personally love the passing style we play. I also think he is a good guy doing a difficult job - and what I don't want to see is people getting vocal about ousting him. There are idiots (and yes i'm confident that's the right label) who have a go at him for being fat and sweaty. These are the people I detest and the reason that I leap to Thorn's defence each time the subject comes up.
