They offered him a deal and he turned it down, did he? Is that what Thorn said? No! You are living in a fantasy land, making up scenarios that didn't happen purely for the sake of your argument.

Coming from someone who said on another thread that you would rather have him playing at centre half when you have never seen him play versus a guy who has played 300 competitive games I would suggest that is slightly ironic.

In all seriousness he won't have cost much .The fact he's on a 3 year deal would be the biggest swing in our favour, that and the fact we're back upto 1.25 euros to the pound currently.

He was our biggest earner on £15,000 a week.

It was well documented at the time that he was on 10k! STOP MAKING STUFF UP!!!

But that's opinion isn't it? Do you think AT has signed him as a reserve? I don't.

No his basic salary was £11K and the accounts suggesting average earnings £15K

That's not actually true though, is it? No chance were we paying him 15k. City haven't had a player on that kind of salary since Hughes.

Hughes was on £18K. We actually paid £7K a week of his salary when he went back to West Brom as they had a wage cap of £11K - or so it was reported at the time.

Leave him to say what he likes look we have signed some so lets enjoy. AT has no money to spend so when he gets someone in must be exciting for him

anyone that believes any player would ignore a Premier league team in favour of us in Div 1 is an idiot!! :pointlaugh:

Nobody reading this guff would be taken in by it .....or thats what I thought..untill now:eek::eek:

That's not what's being said though. A Premier League team 'being keen' is some distance from him having the choice of clubs to sign for.

Nobody with any sense would read that quote would draw such a conclusion in order to have a needless pop..... or that's what I thought.... until now.

He just may get Shipped ,wages and all,If they can find a taker ,Derby are looking for one having sold Shackel.

Probably but I think he is an effective centre back and a pretty good left back when needed as well. A more than adequate replacement for Cranie. It is suggested that he is a big wage earner so they will be looking to off-load.

I heard it was actually Premiership Team's one of which was Arsenal and the other Tottenham but after making enquiries with Alex Ferguson he was assured he would grow more as a player under Thorn's stewardship than either Wenger or Vilas Boas.

Not sure it's credible - just thought I would share

Wow, has anyone considered the lunacy of Thorn lying about it. What possible motive does he have for saying that Prem clubs were looking at the lad when they didn't? They may well have looked and said not quite what they needed? Even so, the fact they looked at all implies he had something to offer them. The Op seems to be making an argument for the sake of it.

Yawn yawn yawn.
Its amazing that some think a few words mentioned by AT is enough to warrant a frenzied attack and Thorn out chants.
Grow up, grow up, grow up !!!

It's funny that people think it's ridiculous that Premiership teams were looking at him. I said on another thread and I'll say it here, I spoke to someone I know who has a vast amount of knowledge of the French top division and he told me that PL sides have tracked Malaga for a couple of years now. He has absolutely no reason to lie to me about that and honestly that guy knows more about Ligue 1 than anyone else I've ever spoken to before in my life.

Just seems like some want Thorn out and will say whatever and do whatever to turn other fans against him. Just because a PL side was 'keen' to sign him doesn't mean they'd set the ball in motion and doesn't mean the club is instantly a good fit for the player. The guys been a bench player and a reserve guy now for 3 years, he wants first team football and we can virtually guarentee him that. We obviously made it clear to the player that we wanted him at Coventry and he felt it was a good fit.

first (and probably only) post, given the inane, pathetic negativity, from people that by all accounts want the club to fail just to prove they were right on an internet forum...

however, a few beers less the wiser, i feel the need to address those who are incessantly negative....

1) complain about no signings and then complain it isn't the right signing - who did you expect? jonathan woodgate on a free? get over it, we have little to spend. that said, i can't believe thorn bigged him up - where was the 'i've signed a shit player' comment??? please don't be thick
2) if malaga is very successful (i have no idea of the player he is so he could easily be the fabian debec of centre backs for all i know), then please archive this thread as proof that when you complain that thorn is a moron for "agreeing" to his exit, you are the bigger moron. AKA - if you support the team, why waste your time sledging those who you have zero knowledge of, before you've seen them play?????
3) whilst we were relegated under Thorn, i hazard a guess that given it's been his full time job for many years, i imagine he knows more about players than someone who lives on in the internet.
4) who cares whether Thorn is articulate or even factual in his interviews or not? god forbid he's using interviews to encourage/take pressure off his team..........no, it's 100% factual Andy Thorn opinion, no doubt about it.
5) if you care enough to preach, i'll be supporting the sky blues alongside you tomorrow at Hinckley - i'll recognise you as the ones that are carrying keyboards to hide behind.

PUSB!

I know there is a lot of hate directed towards Thorn on this forum but he's done everything right in the pre-season in my opinion. He's made his signings early to ensure they get the maximum pre-season possible, (We've all seen what happens when players don't get a pre-season, e.g McDonald and King), this is especially important when you consider the only players we are signing are free agents who wouldn't have a pre-season otherwise. Concerning the actual players I'm very much a fan of the way that Thorn is taking each signing on trial for a few days (excluding Fleck and Elliott) to get a taste of whether they'll fit into the side and have the ability, and while I know this is standard procedure for most managers it signifies that we aren't rushing into panic buys like we have in the past season with players like McDonald and Hreidarsson. Obviously, we are yet to see the team on the pitch so I hope that doesn't undo the hard work that seems have been under-way to unsure we maximise and fully utilise the pre-season, made especially obvious with the fact that we returned to training a week before most teams (Norwich only returned today I think). Hopefully the future from here on out will be a positive one.

Yawn, nothing to see here folks, more crap from the anti-Thorn brigade, the poor bloke can do no right !

How's about giving him a couple of games with his new squad before bad mouthing him. Or if we win 2-0 in today's friendly are the same crowd gonna be saying "not good enough, season over"

Anyway that's enough from me today, off to Nottingham on a stag do, have a good day if your off to the match folks

He s the worst manager I ve seen here but even I m getting bored of this shit. We ve dropped down a league and may have found our level to see some success. Let's try and enjoy the season and save criticism for when it becomes due if necessary. And please don t get wound up about any of the results in meaningless friendlies

A fair point I will be refusing to mention him again until 10 games into the season.

Just to clarify this further I once did a finance agreement for a premier league footballer in 2001 who had just signed for a team and in 2001 he was earning £26,000 per week.

According to the "Football League Paper" and in particular the article by Chris Dunlevy posted on SBT on 30/04/12 the following possibly clears up the argument:

Average Pay per week (2011/2012):

Premier: £22,353
Championship: £4,059
League 1: £1,410

The above are basic wages and exclude:

Appearance money
Bonus
Sponsorship etc

AT says he is pleased to have signed a player he has seen in training for a few days and that others were interested but we offered him a job first and the lad accepted because he will play more often ..... shock ! thats a surprise! When interviewed by the press what would you have him say ?

Just a thought ..... did AT find this lad or was he just part of the process that relies a lot on Waggott ? But does that really matter if we get players on board at the right price that do the business for us.

I neither "hate" or "love" AT but come on he shouldnt be vilified everytime he opens his mouth

Few facts on the wages.....

average wages at CCFC 2010 and 2009 per the accounts

2010 total wage costs 10,314,188 .... total players and management 94 ..... average pw per person = 2110

2009 total wage costs 10,502,957........ total number of players and management 80 .... average pw per person = 2525

obviously this includes backroom staff and academy players, not to mention wages to former employees. Dont have 2008 figures with me

There is no detail in the accounts of the highest paid players or employees..... no evidence in the accounts that Doyle was on £780k pa (£15k pw).... would be included in 2009 figures went to leeds 2009

Tried explaining this on the other huge Thorn thread yesterday-the same argument on a constant basis pisses everybody off.
