I got mugged at knife point by a gang of black teenagers in the centre of Birmingham when I was about 18. I’m shit scared walking anywhere on my own and worried about who’s following me. I’ve never managed to get rid of it so I’m sure if I was a woman and had experienced harassment or worse I would feel worried walking around on my own

Naturally I cross the road when walking behind a lone female at night? Is it not a natural reaction for a man to do that out of courtesy?
Absolutely mate. I do exactly the same. That woman hasn't a clue whether or not you are a risk to them.

I am asking what am I meant to do about the statistic about men killing partners?
But not everything is targeted at you / me / whoever. If I can look myself in the mirror and say I do all I can to make women feel comfortable, there's no reason to worry about people campaigning to highlight those who don't.

I think there’s a fair argument that if we “good ones” can normalise respectful behaviour, including asking if a girl is OK if she looks like she wants out, crossing the road, not leering and shouting, etc. Then women don’t have to worry quite so much on a daily basis and it’s easier for them to spot the true wronguns.
This seems reasonable.

I was pointing out the way you pointed out that statistic as if it's my fault or I was trying to say it doesn't happen.

It's no longer enough to think something is terrible and not agree with it, it's as if people need to clap when told, go on a march or go through a training programme on demand.

It's very weird that you take me pointing out that statistic as somehow trying to blame you.
I just think we need to be having this public conversation and you seem to think we shouldn't.

Like most things there's one particular incident that seems to kick off a bigger debate and this seems to be it. I didn't know the about the increase in women murdered by their partner until this happened but now I do it's pretty shocking.

I don't think it can be ignored.

I'd love to see your evidence for that statement.

Constant down playing off male issues, always told to man up etc. white males are actively discriminated against in the job markets. Always seen as aggressors, children being taken away and almost always given to the mother with limited access. Paternity fraud which is 100% a male problem. The list goes on but this isn't the right thread for it. We could PM a convo if you fancy it?

Where have I said we shouldn't? I have just asked what I am meant to do to change it.

It was the way you worded it in the response to my quote, I have never denied it's an issue though.

What is the actual conversation we should have? "Don't scare women, don't rape women, don't attack women, don't kill women".

If you go by the witch hunts across the media, social media, TV and Radio etc (not you) then last year I was racist if I didnt do something and this year I am going to be a sex offender because Im a male and I need to have a training guide on how to not be a nonce following women about at night.

Have you got stats to support your claim that white males are discriminated against in the job market

Yes but again it's about the "campaign" nonsense. There will be marches, minutes applauses, random people trying to force division between men and women. Some dickhead men saying "women shouldnt be allowed out", some dickhead men saying "its a problem for us to sort out" . Those sort of pricks will be all over the news because they get views with the shit they talk and rinse and repeat.

Again it's not saying people on here, more a cultural thing nowadays and how life is. After it all, nobody will really come up with an actual solution to it. Just more division and people trying to force people onto a "side".

To be honest I don't think we'd ever agree on the majority of it.
I have some sympathy for the access and paternity arguments but I have my own thoughts on paternity particularly and the model in this country is archaic but as you say, not for this thread.

so we should just shrug our shoulders and say 10 percent increase, probably because of lockdown and forget about it?

No I'm just asking what should we do? Other than not kill, rape or attack people?

Personally I like the things that pubs do where they say "just ask for so and so" at the bar and staff will take you into the back room if you are on a dodgy date or something. I think more of that should be done when lockdown is over, every pub / club should have a policy.

How do you do that with somebody walking down the road though?

Exactly the point. I've been assaulted a number of times and spent most of my life concerned about being in the company or vicinity of certain types of men.

Given that I bet to a person we would look to see how we could protect any of our fellow citizens, what can men actually do. I find it hard to buy into the agenda that it's the attitude towards women that will make the change - it will never stop deeper urges, and which are as much genetic as they are social. Unless you choose to biologically craft a population they will always be with us.

The only practical solution is more police, not more identity politics.

I do think there’s still a stigma around “invading the privacy” of a mate or family member you suspect of domestic abuse.

I’ve found out one friend hit his ex (not regularly as he tells it) after the fact and in a way that made it clear he wasn’t proud on the fact. But I do wonder now about little things I wrote off as her being dramatic or his “bark being worse than his bite”

Would agree with almost all of this (the diversity in work stuff is pure guff) and men definitely need more awareness of and organisation against it. I could talk for days about the structural discrimination against boys and men in education, healthcare, the family court/social care system. About how the economy has robbed mostly men of their agency as well as earning power.

I’m not sure how that precludes discussing similar for women?

Finally one of these where I’m on the same side as you Nick. But guess what, I’m not going to be a whinging little bitch about it. I know I’m not a sex offender so I’m not swerving about in here being all upset.

defund the police, give us more police, make up yer bloody mind.

I 've never once called for defunding the police. I was very vocal about their reduction in numbers when the tory fan boys didn't feel fit to mention that actual defunding of them had been happening for ten years.

The other thing is I hope the media, social media, news etc are proud when it gets to the point where women are blaming men, men blaming women. At that point people will have forgotten the poor victim and their family.

It will all just be for political point scoring.

It wasn't aimed at you (or anyone), just a general throw away remark.

It was never about the family or crime on those site, social media, especially twitter is an absolute cess pit, used solely for point scoring and trying to get sympathy.

Every major British event is a point scoring contest on Twitter. With George Floyd people couldn’t wait to get started bashing white people, and the rest couldn’t wait to respond talking about Lee Rigby’s death as a counterpoint. Life is happier with no social media.

to be honest I use Twitter to keep up to date with things I'm interested in, bands etc.
I don't try to cultivate followers and I rarely post.
I do try to get opposing views to my own and follow a few tory/right wing journalists and news sites though admittedly I follow more left leaning ones.

I’ve had to get rid of it. I usually just follow my idols and the stars but even they chirp in with their opinion. Gary Linekar is one of the worst for it. Now I just follow the news on the BBC site and form my opinion from that. And of course here too.

I tried to do the same, but some of the left wing stuff is utterly bonkers, I'll stick to Alex Jones screaming about gay frogs thank you very much,

I'm not talking about people at those extremes, more like Spiked and Douglas Murray.
If only all Jones did was talk about gay frogs, he's far more dangerous than that.

I do like Douglas Murray, his book 'The Strange Death of Europe' was a tough read. I'm a big fan of Paul Joseph Watson.

Twitter's great once you've done a serious amount of curation, but one look at a stranger's reply to pretty much anything and you lose the will to live. Golden rule of the internet, never read the comment section

Twitter is absolutely the worst platform for debate on the internet. The whole character limit, the following, the individual focus.

Great broadcast platform as it was designed. Absolute cesspit that just encourages throw away remarks, trolling, and bad faith.

I love it.
