@ Grendel.....
What makes you think any players brought in will make a difference. I'm merely saying that SISU couldn't give a toss for the last five years, what I've said in my last post is true. The game is full of "If onlys'".....If only Boothroyd showed Westwood more respect when he wanted to talk about a contract extention, we might have kept him.....If only SISU opened their eyes and saw that Turner was worth 5 times more than they sold him for.

I have never believed that Westwood was ever going to sign a new contract - it was just platitudes for the press.

Turner was never worth £4 million and what is gone is gone.

We now have a more focussed board and the Keogh sale will help the club remain within budget - a commercial fact of life.

I bet you couldnt buy Turner for £700k now !

and what has happened to him since we sold him ?, nothing more than playing another year in the same league, meaning his value should have about stayed the same ?

We gave him away, no-one will ever convince me otherwise on that one !

How many games do you think he would have played if he stayed and at the expense of who?

Maybe if sisu would of used their financial savvy last season we wouldn't be in this crap league, anything that hasnt been nailed down they've sold. We wouldn't be having this thread now as ccfc in the championship I'm sure keogh would of signed a new contract, unless someone came in for him of course and sisu see pound signs as usual and fall over.

We cannot dwell on the past which has been dismal for a decade. Time to move forwards.

We've reached a all time low under this lot. I'm still very very angry about relegation and the way they've treated our fans.

Do you think the rest of us are happy with the situation?

We need to move forward. It looks like they have learned their lesson from last season. Players that have left or are about to leave have been replaced. Looks like more are going to join. Also we have not lost Nimely or Ollie. They were not our players to start with. The odds are we will bring more loan players in. This could be where one or more of the strikers we need come from.

It is what it is I don't like seeing our good players sold however we keep doing it and have done it for the last few decades.
So the brighter side is we have replacements unlike last year and we are up against worse opposition.
This year could be one of the best us skyblues have had since leaving the Prem and I for one am feeling very positive.

OK could do a few more strikers then if your signing!

Calm down dear.

It's a combination of factors.

Previous boards
SISU
Thorn
The players

Your right, I was only dicking about. Nothing has really fallen into place for some time but I'm hoping and willing to give some a chance to see if they can turn it round.

The question that needs to be asked is, will having Richard Keogh at the club this season guarantee promotion?

The answer is of course, no. Promotions out of this league are very rarely based on how good a centre back you have. To get out of this league you need to score goals. If we sold Keogh and got in a replacement defender, a creative midfielder and a goal-getter using the fee, that would be perfect.

Look at it this way, if we assume we won't get promoted this season, regardless of this decision, which position would we rather be in?

Keogh gone for free and no extra players, or Keogh gone for 1m and a couple of players added to the squad? No brainer as far as I'm concerned.

Easy, stay for a season and get no fee: this year is our best chance of getting out of L1, and we have more chance with Keogh than without. His transfer fee will make not a pin-prick in our debts-sorry, SISU's debt to SISU:jerkit:-and we will not see a penny of it re-invested in the side anyway. I'll take a top player over no player and no money any time!

That's a good point actually... Keep him!

If your a player in a team and you see all the best players around you being sold !!!
A - would you sign a new contract knowing you will never challenge for the league or trophys ?
B - sign for another team who challenges for thophys and promotion who don't always have to sell their best players ?

Just thought I would point out these points to all of you on here who like to slag off our players or ex players because they show some ambition !!!

It is AT and SISU getting slagged off, not the players that leave.

And of course prior to Sisu we always kept our best players.

Having Messi wouldn't guarantee promotion, but it would increase our chances by a significant %

Well Cardiff seem to think that a Keogh/Turner partnership would work just fine, thanks. So, he would have been first choice instead of Cranie. Possibly moved Cranie or Keogh to RB whilst Clarke was injured. I'm pretty confident that keeping Turner would have made the difference last season. Indeed, he's so good, I think we'd have been about 14th.

But I'm not advocating flogging Messi for a million quid :thinking about:

Keogh isn't anywhere near good enough to 'increase our chances by a significant %' in my opinion. Good player yes, but not indispensable.

8 MILLION?!?? Blimey, Jordan had him in his pocket all night, and he was out of position at LB...

Maybe not indispensable, but irreplaceable given our division and need to get promoted now or sink like a stone over the next few seasons. We'd get more for being promoted than we would for selling him you know.

But that's my point about Keogh not guaranteeing us promotion. If I was convinced we'd go up if we kept him and not otherwise then I'd be right with you.

He's a great pro, not the sort to down tools in the slightest.

But we shouldn't make him stay if he's making it clear he'd like to play at a higher level. I'm with Sutty on this though, having Keogh doesn't guarantee promotion. I'm not happy about having to let Keogh go but if a player wants to play in a better league I wouldn't stop them.

We do need to get promoted now but when has a defender seriously been cited as THE reason for promotion.

In an ideal world yes we would hold onto him but no other business would even consider it. When you have an asset that depreciates from £1 million down to zero in 12 months to not sell and redistribute is economic negligence.

Indeed, he's so good, I think we'd have been about 14th.

We would have still been relegated.

I think (not sure) that thorn never played turner due to injury. So he had Cranie and Keogh as his pairing from the start. We won games at the tail end of season one and thorn had already declared that Cranie and Keogh was his preferred central pairing.

Our goals against column was never a massive issue do I believe that he would have had limited opportunity last season and therefore his asset value would not have been increased.

He was sold to fund the signing of a striker (where we did have problems) and was a player the manager wanted since the end of the prior season.

The fact that signing hardly kicked a ball in anger u til February is the real issue here.

Blaming SISU for everything is shortsighted and ignorant..

I never said Sisu are to blame for everything. Of course they aren't. However the way they have handled the club since taking over has been shambolic. But previous posters are right. We are where we are now and wether we like it or not its time we all pulled in the same direction and got behind the club. This could actually be an exciting season for a change.

So I have read on a couple of different sites now that it'll be monies plus Robert Earnshaw for Keogh...

What are your thoughts?
