Hang on - they lumbered us with a bunch of kids that couldn't cope. Even Bigi (who everyone is drooling all over tonight) looked way out of his depth at times.

Yes Bigi is very talented - we all knew that; but everyone who 'moans' that we had to play a bunch of kids is 100% spot on.

It's one of the major reasons we got relegated.

There's a world of difference between playing in a team with several inexperienced youngsters, to playing in a team full of experienced players looking after you - which allows some freedom to express yourself, and to impress.

That's what sisu did not understand - a blend of youth and experience is required. In the right ratio.......

No surprise. FFS he was too young in a team that was ravaged last season. The games where he was magical-Leeds & Palace 2nd half, Burnley before the red, all the pre-season games-hinted at what incredible potential he has. I've been saying future 25m+ player for a while, which is why 500k-1m is a total travesty. Keep him for another year and we could have sold him for 5m+ like Southampton did Oxlade-Chamberlain and like Leeds did Delph. He'll be better than Delph IMO. Incredible balance and close control, the most natural I've ever seen at CCFC.

They still idolise him! I'll never forget a fan on R5 saying "There was nothing Carl Baker couldn't do with a football-and he didn't score ordinary goals, they were all absolute screamers".

C'mon Baker, you can do that again with better players around you!!!

Agree, having less responsibility will massively aid his game as it will give him the platform to concentrate on his game.

However to suggest SISU did not understand that a blend of youth and experience was required is a bit short-sighted, I'm sure they were well aware our squad was not good enough, but what could they do, spend money on experienced players that we didn't have and gamble with the clubs long-term future?

Say what you like about Coventry, but we've never paid nearly that sort of amount for strikers that can't score.

Though we have signed have a few for less.

The more time he gets on the ball the better he will look an play. This season is going to be ugly in midfield at times. Would love to have kept him, but we need solid players that won't get knocked off the ball easily whilst in Div3. It is only when we get promoted or get a prem team in the cup that we will miss him the most.

Fair play to Bigi. I really hope he has a long and very successful career. But that's as far as it goes for me also. Couldn't care less what actually happens at Newcastle or anywhere else for that matter.
If the players aren't playing for Coventry City why would I be the slightest bit interested in what they are doing?I see it is moving on and looking forward, rather than having a slightly depressing look back over your shoulder from time to time!

From the first game I saw him play, it was clear that here was a genuine talent, he is so comfortable in possession, and has an eye for that defence splitting pass, its true, he needs to Beef up a little, but that will surely come, with the correct training and diet, I think Bigi has the talent, and calm mental mind set, to go on and become a household name in the Premiership,......"Newcastle,,, you got a Snip"

Obviously getting relegated is never a good situation, especially financially, but it is what has happened to a lot of clubs as big and bigger than ourselves in the last few years, much of it due to financial constraints. I'm of the opinion that the club and Thorn were half preparing for relegation from october/november last season. Selling Juke in january, our only source of goals suggested to me that we were not going to fight it. Bare in mind we were in a transfer embargo for a period recently I wonder what situation we would have been in had we spent money on experienced players last summer or not sold Juke. Having witnessed our movements in this transfer window it is clear to me that SISU are not just asset stripping before they 'do a runner' as many like to believe..instead I believe there is a plan (look to buy half the stadium and seek alternative investment for the club), and unfortunately to bring in enough quality and depth to the squad we have to sell some of our assets to pay their wages. We lost a lot of players last summer and I just don't believe we had enough money to bring in the quality needed to survive.

You state that a 'a bit of investment - not much' could have saved 5 million. Say we had spent money last summer and still been relegated, what kind of situation would we be in now? You can say we should have taken that risk, but the squad was weak last season and everyone knew that and had we taken that risk I honestly believe we could be facing back to back relegations now as has happened to other clubs. Relegation had been coming for years given the financial constraints that the club finds itself under. I for one am just glad we're in a position where we can possibly bounce back.

In all fairness, I think stating that Bigi would have been a future £25m player on last season seems like hyperbole. Notwithstanding the fact he looked like young brilliance upon several occasions, it was a long hard attritional and relagation tinted season, and the fact he now has better players around him to flourish with. A good player, bags of potential, deserves a break from everything I hear about him, but for every £35m Carroll there is an £8m van de Vaart. Who knows, sounds like a stretch to me. I doffed my cap to the fact that last season was incredibly difficult to have as your debut in professional football. A few bridges too far, I don't think there was much pressure or expectation from the stands. I just think football prices are baffling and found it hard to say that he was worth more than Eden Hazard (based on potential or otherwise). Who knows, pointless argument in all actuality as no one can say one way or the other. You are effectively saying you would prefer to have one Bigi than 100 Julian Grays (over-estimating the latter's worth to £250k). I am finally with you.

We should probably be doing this kinda of bitching via pm, but-what do you mean? Last season? Didn't miss a single home game (apart from part of Saints in the Cup..). This season I'm working most Saturdays, but am pretty glad given how I feel about our owners! My buddy has in any case got a double ST, so he'll be dragging me along regardless. Any chance I have of being there, if I can, I will. I'll have no choice! So regardless, I will be "taking every opportunity to see them" again this season.

Means you'll have to put up with my hyperbole for a while yet.

It's a bit more complicated than that, my mate already has got 2 ST's as he wouldn't take no for an answer. He's taking his niece when I can't make it, which is more often than I think she was hoping..
