Difference is for a lot of those PL escapes we were properly in the mire before squeezing out at the end, this time we have had so many points thrown away and made it far harder than it needed to be.
We have looked rather doomed before too. This time we have been keeping our heads above water consistently.

We still have a healthy cushion over third from bottom and Rotherham have such a backlog now.

Quite a few of the bookies have Rotherham at better odds than blues to stay up. Wonder why. It would be nice for them to get some of those games in hand played. Would give much better viewing on things.

The answer simply is to win more games than Birmingham out of our 10 remaining and Birmingham's 9. Looking at the remaining fixtures that shouldn't be difficult.

We just need points on the board, as tonight has shown we cannot rely on the 'good' sides to do it for us.

I thought you would want them to if they are shit - give you a better chance if you have to play them?

bogey team for us beat them twice in last 15 meetings and fail to win in last 8 games against them, we never seem to lay a glove on them.

Apparently Wycombe tried all sorts of dubious tactics, hounding the ref, appealing etc tonight against Barnsley. Hope we are wise to it and that Osti keeps his cool (and Hamer, for that matter) Come on City!!

pushing and shoving after every minimal contact foul, hoping to get a reaction so they could go down like they’ve been be headed, like their team mate did for the soft foul. Disgustingly awful team I hope they end up non league.

I think we beat them still. Luton pressed us really well at the start last night and gave us no time on the ball, our midfield sat deeper to plug gaps from sloppy passing and then it went to shit.

I don't think Wycombe have the ability to do that to the same level.

If we go down it really is purely ourselves to blame, countless chances to pull away and they've been flapped every time. Shouldn't be anywhere near danger with the number of points chucked away time after time

Exactly.

There are a few posters on here which just turn a blind eye every time it happens and point to the next game.

I've said it before, but the league this year is shite. The standard is awful. Reading should be destroying Birmingham, yet they fuck it up. As for us, we look worse than we did last year in league one, and it has very little to do with our opposition. I wouldn't like to go through our fixtures and look at the points I think we should have got because it would only piss me off more.

We've had so many chances to get those points and we've thrown them away. Individual mistakes have been a big problem, but negative tactics have been unbelievable too.

Some were behaving like Luton were Barcelona the way should have just bowed down to them. It really is pathetic. I hope we stay up but sometimes I don't feel we deserve it. As someone else pointed out, our body language against Luton/Barcelona was a joke. There was no fight at all and I would say on any other normal season we would be down there below Wycombe.

This season we have been generally pretty pathetic for many reasons, but recruitment needs looking at too. I know everyone was excited with Hamer (I was too), but since he has dropped off and the scope has zoomed out a bit, you have to say the last years' worth of signings have been extremely poor.

Need to hope we stay up and sort this shit out in the summer.

We need to go back to 4 4 2 and stop with the tip tap football.

We should have learned by now that one up front doesn't work for us, it is annoying seeing this when we are gifting goals almost every game.
Robins should accept that our defending is dodgy, put 2 up front and be trying to win games 3-2, 4-3....

Biamou with Godden or Walker
Do not play Kelly and James together
Dabo and O'Hare on the wing

In the 11/12 season we lost 27 points (net, not total) from winning positions. Not as bad for that season but I cannot remember when we last conceded an objectively good goal, every single one has to be comical

Your argument fell down when you wanted to start biamou. As for the wingers comment.....

We play two strikers it occupies 3/4 defenders play O’Hare behind and that’s another 1/2 opposition players occupied if you play just one and one behind it releases opposition defenders into flooding midfield and easier to stifle us.
Been said a thousand times football is a simple game and it is. If we played Godden & Walker up top backed up by the tireless O’Hare our remaining seven players would outnumber opponents and have space to play. It would also allows to fill the penalty area when attacking something sadly lacking Tuesday night.

Much too simplistic and really negative. The league is the same every year, 24 teams, 46 games and a mix of sides like us that come up, sides that come down and that middle group of clubs who have been in this league a while and are jostling for space at the higher end of the table. Somebody must occupy the lower positions. That is our role this season and it is progress, Huddersfield and Forest and Derby can't have that perspective.
Why should Reading be destroying Birmingham? Blues were motivated, fought hard and Reading were shy of their best, just like when we beat Reading or Brentford. Its a competitive league, you should be pleased with our progress in the big picture but all you see is we are pretty pathetic. A bit like your post IMO.

I'm trying to measure it based on things like basic mistakes and tasks.

Simple passing etc

I still think the wingback thing is stupid. We barely ever score from crosses and struggle to get more than one man in the box. Separate point, I know.
Yup we use wing backs to work it wide to them to at times cross to O’Hare it’s bonkers thinking, both wingbacks are struggling at this level

Not really.

I've been watching championship football for years. The quality this season is significantly weaker than it has been for a long time. That may be due to lack of crowds, but how many games can you honestly say we have been outclassed in? Very few.

My frustration is that if we do get relegated, it was entirely preventable. We've been poor, for a variety of reasons.

I think 2 up front would of beat Luton they looked dodgy by the time he done it the game was long gone

Last time we played with three midfielders in the reverse fixture, our midfield was totally over run by their Luton counterparts.

Two up top isn't always the answer. In the first half we created several excellent chances, however Biamou seriously let us down - as did Wilson at the other end of the pitch.

If a better striker was on the pitch then it's more than likely the game would have been put to bed in the first half. The choice of formation had little baring on the outcome of the game. If you don't put away your chances you're not going to win games. It's as simple as that.

Almost like we’ve got a squad of L1 players and can’t afford any better.

Tactics make sense if you don’t think you’ve got any players who can hurt them.

The owners need to come clean about whether we can actually afford to be in this league or not and set expectations appropriately.

12 points is best case imo (but if they have beaten Rotherham, then that may help do for Rotherham). I've put a win against Forest, but if Forest are still in trouble, that 'win' for Blues may not be as attainable. I think the Stoke game through to the Derby match will be key for Blues (and I have been generous in points allocation for those games) - if they get those results v Rotherham, Forest and Derby, it likely keeps those teams in trouble.
