The FA are clueless and happy with mundane football. Southgate and Boothroyd! Yawn!I watched England U21’s last night. It reminded me how turgid the football was when he was our manager. He must have some really good friends at the FA to have landed that gig. Utter shite

I havent watched a single England match since we lost to Croatia in the WC. Partly down to games now being on Sky, mostly because its like pulling teeth!

so you haven't watched the last 27 England games (in which they have score 68 goals), but feel qualified to judge the quality of football in these games? The FA are clueless and happy with mundane football. Southgate and Boothroyd! Yawn!

There was a point made during yesterday’s game that a lot of the potential u21s were getting called up to the first team and that was hampering the quality (not sure I buy that, to be honest). I’ve thought for years that young players should do a full campaign of u21 internationals before being considered for the first team. More playing experience and also (hopefully) a level of tournament experience. Don’t really see the need for Bellingham to be in the full squad at 17, no matter how good he is or may be.

No point him being in the first team squad to sit on the bench but if he is a regular then he would gain nothing from the under 21’s, surely it would be like keeping a player in the academy system or under 23’s?
It would just be one 2-year campaign, though. Do that from age 16 to 18 if you’re that good, then be eligible for the first team from 18.
The last 2 have been yes, but the 20 previous to that were all on Sky Sports.England games are on ITV
I think Southgate has actually done ok and the criticism from some quarters is OTT based on his actual results.
But the appointment of Boothroyd is mind boggling. A real footballing dinosaur tactically and that role needs someone forward thinking.
I can only assume he was seen as a good man manager/motivator for the young players because technically he is inept.
Ooh look, England put 5 past a nomark country in a dull as dishwater, meaningless friendly on Sky Sports!!! Sorry for not wetting myself with excitement!!so you haven't watched the last 27 England games (in which they have score 68 goals), but feel qualified to judge the quality of football in these games?
Then you could make it under 18’s football and get rid of the under 21’s. It makes me laugh when I hear so and so is the highest appearance maker for the under 21’s that is failure as you aren’t good enough to step up to the big boys team.
No, what I’m saying is that for someone like Bellingham he could play in the u21s from 16 to 18 and then be called up for the first team. There will always be a core of u21 players that aren’t good enough to become full internationals, it’s not just an England thing. But, for me, the u21s provides an important step in the journey of being an international footballer. Too often it’s bypassed and then it feels a bit like players can’t drop back down after making a full appearance.

Eriksson and Capello were both underwhelming and underachieving and yes an Englishman managing England is the right way to go. Nothing against foreign managers but this bizarre obsession is how it should be in my opinion. The bizarre obsession with only appointing English managers actually hinders progress.
Eriksson was more successful that plenty before him and the 'Golden Generation' were not as good as some seemed to believe. The majority of other international teams will go for the one who is best for the job, regardless of nationality.Eriksson and Capello were both underwhelming and underachieving and yes an Englishman managing England is the right way to go. France-Frenchman, Italy,- Italian, Spain-Spaniard, Portugal-Portuguese, Netherlands-Dutchman, Brazil-Brazilian, Germany-German...do you see where I am going with this?Eriksson was more successful that plenty before him and the 'Golden Generation' were not as good as some seemed to believe. They say he wasted that generation, history will repeat itself if they leave Southgate in charge of this current crop especially the forward players we currently haveTo be fair to Eriksonn, and I wasn't his biggest fan .
There were some absolutely brilliant international teams around during that time
Yeah, you're choosing countries to back-up your point.France-Frenchman, Italy,- Italian, Spain-Spaniard, Portugal-Portuguese, Netherlands-Dutchman, Brazil-Brazilian, Germany-German...do you see where I am going with this?
We say that , and our media pushed that ...but some of the teams we lost to were fantastic sides with fantastic players .They say he wasted that generation, history will repeat itself if they leave Southgate in charge of this current crop especially the forward players we currently have
He should of gone after the last big tournament another tactically weak manager at that level, against Croatia they overloaded our left hand side he sat and didn’t know how to react...his handling of Jack grealish has turned the on the fence fans against him but again it’s another case of a player not playing for one of the big clubs The FA need to get rid and fastSouthgate is a terrible manager.
Boring, defense minded football and mediocre results, all masked by a WC semi. A tournament where England only played 2 decent teams and lost 3 times.
Hopefully he'll be gone after the Euros.
It was a narrative that got pushed by the media at the time, agreed there were superior international sides at the time too.We say that , and our media pushed that ...but some of the teams we lost to were fantastic sides with fantastic players .
There were alot of international heavyweights back then ... Brazil in 2002 as an example
Reality is we just weren't good enough .
We’ve never been great at retaining possession at that level we get found out every time will be the same this time round especially with the current managerWe say that , and our media pushed that ...but some of the teams we lost to were fantastic sides with fantastic players .

We don't have good enough centre halves or natural central midfield players to win anything with this lot either tbh
There are other major nations with more recent success than England who have had no qualms in appointing foreign managers.Disagree. I think most "major" football nations will always appoint one of their own. Have the Germans, Italians or Spanish ever appointed a foreign manager?
Now....whether Engerlund are still classed as a "major" football nation having won diddly squat since pre-decimalisation is another debate.
