I find the whole 'why are we playing two DMs' question a bit puzzleing to be honest. We have four attacking players and are comfortably winning. This is how we are playing in the Euros and we have one more competitive game after this.

And its partly why we have no chance of winning it ..Good sides will exploit us with ease

Imagine Pep as England manager with the players he'd have at his disposal , I'd fancy us to win something
This big nosed clown is far too cautious and basically boring

Controlled the game and the win was never in doubt. Barely got out of first gear. Once again the next task is a much bigger one. A draw wouldn’t be the worst result in the world and a win would go a long way towards qualification even this early on.

With the right manager perhaps. Like always we'll probably breeze qualifying and come unstuck against the first decent side in the tourney

Luke Shaw turns back towards his own goal too often, due to being so one footed. As a result, he often stops any forward momentum. We had the ball for ages at one point, so determined were we not to give the ball away, yet even though we got the ball to the edge of their box, rather than be the one who risked anything, our player would happily punt it 20 yards back, and it would end up with Maguire/Stones. Yes, we were in no danger of losing, but it feels like a lot of players have been overcoached in the one on ones to not take a player on. That's where the manager needs to allow the players off the leash. Not make them frightened of playing an attempted killer pass, or dribbling.

Nothing changes, England games are a borefest with Southgate in charge.

That is an advantage agreed
Not that I disagree with you point. Based on the last few tournaments and competitive games I’d put us behind France, Portugal, Holland and Belgium. It might also be that 3 of them are in the same group, so one is likely going out.

Germany aren’t what they were and Italy are rarely backed by the bookies these days.

Just watched a bit of the under 21’s the future is not bright there. Boothroyd is well out of his depth there. Cantwell on the bench with Brewster who hasn’t scored all season and the goalie is Sheffield utds no saver.
England have played two games and not had a shot on target.

Boothroyd is terrible , he has to go , can't have young developing players under his watch

It's because we don't need 2 holding midfielders against teams such as Albania. The "we're playing that way at the Euros" argument doesn't really fly as we'll need more than one system at the Euros and we'll need to work on them.

This is wear Southgate falls down on tactical ability. Nice bloke who looks good in a suit but top class manager he isn't.

Think this article (and the reaction to it) is aimed at a lot of you in this thread

I largely agree with that article, but it’s a little far fetched to claim Rice couldn’t play that holding role himself in a game where we had 75% possession. I’m also not sold on Kalvin Phillips at all. Yesterday I’d have played Rice and Mount, or even just Rice and Ward-Prowse.

I think he was saying you can't play Rice on his own this summer, which seems fair enough to me.

The press will be the first on his back when it goes wrong, the majority of people who write in the press have no more idea about football than the average man (ex players excluded).

I would guess the France, Germany and Portugal group will be one that puts through one of the best 3rd place teams. Having said that Hungary aren't a bad side either!

Come back with this after the euros ..we will see how it stacks up

His tactics knackered us against Croatia at the world Cup and against Holland in the nations league

Do we think if Germany , France or Spain have the equivalent amount of attacking talent we have they'd be playing with 2 holding midfielders against Iceland, Denmark and Albania ?

Haven’t got an issue with a couple of DMs (I’d imagine these will be Rice and Henderson in the summer) if we’re four at the back....two DMs when we were playing five at the back was ridiculous !

Ps more importantly, how the fuck is Boothroyd still ‘nurturing’ our best young talent ?!!

Forgot 3rd qualifies. If I recall didn’t Portugal finish 3rd in 2016? To Iceland
Yep. Drew all 3 group games. Only won one game all tournament (Wales). Would certainly take dull football like their fans had then if it meant winning a tournament.

He's begging to be fired and about time, get someone who doesn't think it's 'impossible'

It looks like his time as manager is already over. He is talking like a dead man.

I saw an interview yesterday from a while ago. Gerrard, Lampard, and Ferdinand were saying that their focus was with their clubs and not country so they didn't have the same advantages as other teams, which is why they didn't do so well. It is really ridiculous. It should be an honour but all you ever hear are excuses. The players at the U23's have been good enough not to finish rock bottom of the group too, so he is talking shite.
