The only real driver of improved animal welfare is consumer behaviour imho. Obviously there have to be minimum standards but they'll only improve if the market demands that they do. The problem is that many people can't afford to be so discerning.
That said, over the last 20 years free range eggs have gone from being fairly niche to probably dominant in that market, but I suppose that's a relatively low cost item anyway.

My best mate in Primary’s Mum was on her own and didn’t earn much and their whole family including the dog were vegetarian (maybe vegan but not sure that existed in the 80s) apparently mainly for cost reasons. Meat is always the most expensive single item on my weekly shop TBF.

There are some pretty fancy prices for ready made veggie meals and loads of different kind of vegan mince since it became cool. However when you look at these vegan minces there are no expensive ingredients. Make something trendy and there will always be someone willing to sell you it at a high price. However if you make meals from first principles as we do, it has to be cheaper.

We do buy the mince though, as Quorn seems to have changed the recipe and it's not as good.

How long did all branches of Christianity preach against homosexuality? It was within my lifetime. Remember Section 28? First female vicars too. This is still a massive thing for Catholics. DUP are massively anti-abortion and homosexuality and want it banned and they're Protestant.

It changed because people basically abandoned the church because of views like this and they were forced to change to have even the slightest semblance of relevance in the modern age. The church would've much rather maintained a ban on homosexuality and women priests if they could and if they'd have maintained enough hardcore support to do so would've.

That's how Islam gets away with it - lots of followers refuse or are to afraid too slightly question stuff like this so they can get away with the hardcore. If they could get enough to show dissatisfaction with these archaic doctrines they'd have to make the same choice - get rid of it or become irrelevant.

Things like this It's far more lack of understanding and tolerance for this society than a lack of tolerance of society towards Islam

Don’t know. The type of thing I personally would protest against would be something like greyhound racing. I’d do it at a dog track as a meeting was taking place. They’d be little point doing it outside the local laundrette.

I believe on this day of all days that even when I was still far off god met me in his son Jesus and brought me home. I know how far from perfect I am and my aim is to live life to reflect the man I’ve read about. I fail constantly as you can all attest but the thought that the Christian faith has broadly changed its beliefs through rejection is only part of the story in my experience. Again the vast majority of Muslims are good honourable men and women who want to live good lives blessing their communities and seeing their children succeed and have families that succeed. There are monsters in all religions and none
