I think MR dropping Marossi last night and his comments on Sky regarding the reasons he did it that Wilson commands his box better signals the end of Marossi at the club.
Marossi for me is very similar to Burge perhaps without so many mistakes. He is a good shot stopper but doesnt command his box and defenders and wont come of his line to claim crosses.

I dont think ultimately Wilson is a number one at this level but I think last night confirms that Marossi will be told to find another club and we will look to bring in a number 1 next season

Wasn’t he signed as he was good with his feet to play out from the back? Which we can’t do as much anymore. Need 2 new keepers anyway ideally.

Asking because I’m not sure if I made that up or it’s real.
Precisely this, but he was also actually pretty good at goalkeeping last season I thought. Think people are overly harsh on him sometimes after what he's done... streets ahead of Wilson who is a league 2 goalkeeper really.
That said we need to be moving forward so if the opportunity arrives to grab an improvement (or 2) we need to take it.

Marosi is awful on crosses which is why he was dropped for last night.

He's the better keeper overall, but maybe there's not as much between them as we thought.

Coming for crosses and commanding your area are the bread and butter of goalkeeping. On that basis alone, Marosi isn’t the better overall keeper.

The defence looked much more confident with Wilson behind them last night.

I think its fair to say that Marossi is a better shot stopper but Wilson commands his box and claims crosses a lot better.
Ultimately a good keeper does both and we seem to have two that only do some of it.
for me a keeper who can claim crosses takes a lot of pressure of the defence which was the problem we had with Burge and the stupid mistakes he made.

I agree that we should try to get Stockwell though as a number 1

Marosi made a terrible mistake against Ballmouth.

I think Robins just doesn’t trust him anymore.

There are a number of Premiership and championship experienced goalkeepers in their early thirties listed and available as freebies on the goalie list, they will cost wage wise though goalkeepers do, we also have Tom Billson now 20, I would hope once mathematically safe from the drop he is given a game or two to see how he he fairs. Signing an experience number one and with a young prodgedy backing him up is the way to go imo.

Not so long ago the anti Robins group of fans jumped all over the fact Biamou was playing with a knee injury and he was not protecting players, rushed Godden back blah blah.

Well Marosi is coming back from a horrific facial injury. Last season he got targeted and beat up by Rotherham.

So perhaps Robins feels he still isnt fully recovered from his injury even if it is just mental. So he took him out and picked the keeper he though would cope better with the Rotherham threat. That is what a squad is for.

I think Marosi over all is the slightly better keeper, but not by much. I would like an upgrade on our keepers in the summer.

Fair point and would explain the change last night. Either way we need a new number 1 next season if we are still in the championship.
be interesting to see who Robins plays in goal on Sunday

I don’t think he is he didn’t just have a cracked cheekbone he basically had one side of his head smashed cheek & eye socket which needed surgery, bound to have lasting effect.

Didn't hear what Robins said but if he's dropped Marosi for this game rather than there being an injury concern then surely thats the end of his time as number one here.

Don't see Wilson taking that role long term, hopefully Robins doesn't either, so we'll be looking for at least one keeper over the summer, maybe two if Wilson wants to be first choice somewhere. Wilson as backup isn't ideal but you'd hope your first choice isn't out as much as Marosi has been this year so maybe the money is better spent elsewhere than on someone to sit on the bench.
Johansson who played for Rotherham last night would be a good shout.
Only seen him against us but if that's representative of what he's like week in week out then he's definitely worth a look assuming they go down.

I think you’re spot on here. That injury was a bad one, and I wonder if his confidence has been affected. I think he’s probably slightly the better keeper of the two, and that if he hadn’t had his injury, he would have played every game in goal.

Definitely wasn't injured. He said he looked at the game and decided Wilson was what he needed for this particular game.

I did enjoy Wilson running all the way up to the halfway line to fist bump Hyam for some good defending at one point!

He wasn't as good as a lot of people's "Marosi tinted glasses" thought.
He just was not tested. 3 games stick out last season where he was very poor. Both Rotherham games and Portsmouth away.
Somebody said in this thread that he is a good shot stopper... he is not. He is very easily beaten. This has shown in his stats this season (Somebody posted on twitter - just under half shots faced result in a goal- 2nd worse in division) and last season he just was not tested.

The club will (and have been for a while!) be searching for at least one more keeper for next season.
Let's just hope him or Wilson don't cost us in thr next five games.

He was fine and he did a good job for us. No way would we have won the league if we persisted with that clown Burge.

I take most of your point, but Marosi is by far the better keeper than Wilson when fit.

That's why if we do sign another, it'll be Marosi off and Wilson to stay, as somebody will give Marosi a first team slot.

This thread is not about Burge. But my point is that he (MM) is not as good as a lot of people think. He was just not tested last year.

That's not an unreasonable POV I guess. That being said, Wilson just doesn't inspire me in any way!

(At the same time, is it coincidence our defence is more solid with him there? Back in't day, when Hedman was replacing Oggy, I still thought we looked better with Oggy in the side, even if his powers had faded, because he could organise the defence, protect himself, and had the experience. Hedman went for the spectacular saves, but we were all over the shop defensively)

NW, he is not "by far the better keeper" there is minimal between them.
Marosi would not get a championship or even top end LG1 club. He, unfortunately for us and him, has been found out massively this season when exposed to actual situations where he has had to "be a goalkeeper"

Agree. I said the same last year and suggested Robins would be looking for a new keeper this year and got pelters.

Fine in L1 for a team with a great defence that rarely gets tested as you say. Makes some great saves but nowhere near good enough on crosses and makes too many errors.

I'm not sure how good you think I think he is. My point was he's not a bad as some people think... so to summarise he's not as bad as you think or as good as I think, but I'd be interested to hear what other people think.

He's had two full seasons in league one however, with Doncaster and us, where the teams have done well. It's not unreasonable to think the aspiring mid-range pack would have him. I confess to not knowing if Plymouth or MK Dons keepers are any good or not, but that *kind* of level.

Minimal between them... come on. Who do you think would get a better club if they were both released?

MM - He's not as good as people think. Simple. Some people think he is a great keeper/great shot stopper - he is not!!

...although I was surprised to see Doncaster released him, as opposed to he jusdecided to join us and turned their contract down... I know their first choice had been injured all that season, but still...

It's a pretty vague stat, as there are so many variables, but Save % this season:

Marosi - 64% - 30th out of 32 keepers who have played 1000+ minutes
Wilson - 73% - 7th out of 32

Clean sheet %:

Marosi - 21% - 28th out of 32
Wilson - 40% - 7th out of 32

Goals against per 90:
Marosi - 1.89 - 32nd out of 32
Wilson - 0.91 - 7th out of 32

As I said, those stats are very vague and you can't read too much into them, but interesting nonetheless.

OK I'm flogging a dead horse I see...

BTW this is kind of about Burge, if Burge can play for a top end league one club so can Marosi... oh wait, he did already.
