They were once setup to not make it not too obvious and to give the oinks a few crumbs from the table to keep them happy.
That pretence has long gone

Such a long way from the original meaning of the word Tory ;)

This really is a heavy read:

A terrible read. I see this is affecting under 40s quite badly - as the UK have not vaccinated most under 40's why are we pissing about allowing travel from India until Friday? Travel should have been blocked immediately on Monday when it was announced that India would be put on the travel ban list. Have we not learned a damn thing over the past 15 months?

Not to contradict your point but think it's worth understanding the difference in demographics, India has a much younger population than the west (median are 26 compared with 40 in the UK), it will mean that more young people are affected cos there are more young people. Only 6% of ppn over 65 compared with 18% here.

Good point Fernando. Also some ridiculously highly densely populated, poor areas. It’s been frightening and very sad to see

Me and the Missus backpacked around India for three months and it is ridiculous how densely populated it is.

You could be walking around Delhi or Mumbai at 01:00am and it would be as busy as Oxford Street on the last Saturday before Christmas!

I can’t see the NHS getting overwhelmed again without a new strain appearing. Seriously doubt we’ll have lockdown in August.
Think my main concern in the medium term is that we still seem to be slack on border controls and quarantine. Look how slow we've been in reacting to the issues in India. Couple that with track and trace still not being as good as it should be it leaves the window open for variants getting in and then spreading.

There was an article on the BBC website about people trying to get back from India. Considering non-essential travel isn't supposed to be happening pretty much everyone they spoke to shouldn't have been travelling there in the first place. That's the sort of thing we need to get sorted.

Pakistan and Bangladesh were put on the 'red list' two weeks before India. Even this time they gave too much notice. Been loads of people leaving the country to go to that part of the world and as you say, doubt a lot are actually for 'essential' reasons.

The vaccine should be doing its bit here at the moment, but it does piss me off how some people think the rules don't apply to them, and how the government is so incapable of getting basic tasks right.

I see there was another mentalist convention in London yesterday. Are they just not watching the scenes in India? There was some proper Qanon placards flying around.

Thick twats.
They’re complaining on one hand that MSM and specifically the BBC didn’t report it and then on the other are directing some absolutely horrendous abuse at the BBC reporter who covered it and disputing the numbers that MSM reported as being present at the demo. They abused members of the public who were shopping on Oxford St while wearing face masks, attacked the police etc. Utter morons and on so many levels.

Wearing yellow stars. Fucking disgusting.
As bad as the last year has been to try compare it to the holocaust is shameful.

I agree it's shameful .

However let's curb the outrage when all I ever hear these days on social media is nazi this , fascist that.

And on here too let's not forget

People making shit comparisons for political point scoring is certainly not a new thing , it's rife these days

I denounce the protest yesterday , like I've denounced all the protests during this pandemic.

It's utterly ridiculous

However I feel we are only 1 more lockdown off absolute carnage over here , which makes the protests even more annoying

People really just need to hold their nerve for another few months, get their jabs when offered and that ought to be enough. I for one am desperate to get offered the vaccine so it’s infuriating seeing some in care homes still turn it down after 5 months

Do you feel the vaçcine may not achieve its goal?

While I'm not against people making their points via marches/vigils/protests,and would naturally be more biased to some than others I think it's not surprising they've occured during a time such as this .

A lot of the people on this rally are also anti the vaccine. They’re part of the problem in every way and in no part part of the solution.
