Jordan Shipley scores a goal at the weekend and it seems there is far far more focus on his goal celebration than the goal.

Meanwhile on the local radio station a fan clamours for the return to the starting line up for Max Biamou and cites his contribution in a game that he won a penalty in. He then suggest he should be the main man next season and we should get rid of Tyler Walker. This is curious as in the game in question Tyler Walker scored two goals and Max Biamou did what he does best - not score at all.

This however is the world we live in.

Now this may be poetic licence but I believe its is reasonable to say that Jordan Shipley gets more abuse in social media then any other player we have and Max Biamou gets a significant amount of praise. Certainly if you are negative to Biamou there is a swift response from the pack and if Mr Shipley is mocked anyone defending him is ridiculed.

After all Max Biamou got us promoted from League Two right? He scored in the play off semi final.

So scoring in the final I guess means nothing but hey ho

Max is better than JCH as we got two promotions with him right? Well OK than I guess we are better with Jordan Shipley than James Maddsion on that basis and also better with Biamou than Adam Armstrong

Sadly for Shipley he is a Paul Telfer type. Hard working, tries to adapt to the managers needs and head down does the job. He has no story, he looks a bit hang dog. he doesnt have cult status. If he was out of contract should we offer a new one? Nah - but lets offer Max one as we need that 4th or even 5th striker.

Biamou has the story, He has the strut and he smiles for the cameras. He is the modern day Mo Konjik and everyone loves Mo against poor old Telfer right?

As Oggys says Max doesn't score lots of goals but he gets his share.

Well he has 14 league goals in his career. Poor Jordan he's not a striker but hey he only has.........14 league goals.

Max creates a lot as well says Oggy. Well I don't think we should look at the assists stats as come on he does other things.

Shipley will always be maligned more versus Biamou as he is just not as news worthy and is not as hyped. The fans will look for the mispaced pass and groan. Biamou spoons over from 5 yards and boy that took a bobble and he did so well to get there anyway

Biamou can wear Nylon from Primark and Shipley the finest silk but there is always only one winner

Fans are funny creatures aren't they?

And I suppose if we were to go full circle we could say that no matter what Jackett Robins wears you will usually put a caveat on it because deep down you don’t like his close links with the owners.

What does Who Scored say about Biamou and Shipley?

Also, weren’t we guaranteed to go down according to you?

Whoscored has Biamou as 7th best rated in our squad this season. Shipley 17th.

Obviously this is a statistical model, not an eye test or opinion. You can disagree about the usefulness of the model, but not how players rank within the model. As a club we're quite big on statistical analysis so probably gives a bit of a guide as to how players performance will be viewed internally, although there will obviously be opinion applied on top of the statistical analysis.

Both have scored 14 league goals in their career

According to Who Scored, O’hare won’t be anywhere near winning player of the year. I’m so glad I was told about that website to correct all my footballing opinions

Best rated player in our squad on whoscored is Sam McCallum by the way. 3rd best Dom Hyam. Quite interesting when you look at the perception of those players performance on here.

I’m not sure what a stats site that claims Biamou is better rated than O Hare has to do with anything

It relates directly to the post I quoted. I haven't actually said I believe the model is useful. I'm confused by your lack of comprehension.

Im not suffering from lack of comprehension but I wouldn’t say Max biamou his a better defender than McFazdean which I think is what this says?

Get with it ffs. Who Scored is always right

Depends what the question is. It's a statistical model, not an opinion. In theory, yes, it's always right as it's factual, as long as the question is which players show up best in this statistical model. If it's anything else then, no, it's very rarely right.

Trying to work out if people are really this stupid.

I think you’re missing where this has all come from. I was told that Ched Evans is useless because Who Scored says so. My point is, I couldn’t give a fuck what Who Scored says and if that’s used to back up an argument then the argument is instantly lost

The rating bit is just an overall, doesn't change when you move between defensive and offensive stats.

well when I look at it it automatically filters what it thinks is the key attribute for the position I assume so tackles defending passing seems assusts and goals for forwards?

It’s a random data set as it suggests overall Biamou is a more effective squad member than O Hare so it’s rubbish

It's a statistical model, and by definition is fallible. It's useful, but to be taken with a pinch of salt.

Well I think McCallum is close to being our best player this season and despite a shake period Hyam has done well

Agreed. Since Giles went back Mccallum has had to hold that LWB spot on his own and has been excellent. Definitely one of our better players since January. His stats are excellent
