AT unsure about captain (10 Viewers)

Coventry City manager Andy Thorn has said that he is still to decide on who will be the City captain this season.

Speaking to the CT's Andy Turner, Thorn said:"I’ve not made a decision on the captaincy yet.

"It’s still very early in the pre-season so there’s plenty of time yet. Gary’s had it a couple of times and he’s definitely a contender. He’s been at the club a long time and it means a lot to him.

"He’s come back in good shape and he’s working hard, so he’s definitely in my thoughts.
"Kev Kilbane (pictured below) is another one with all his experience, or I might go with one of the younger ones and throw the cat among the pigeons. I gave the armband to Conor in the second-half at Hinckley and again the other night against Brora, so I’m not ruling that out.

.........................

I think he's waiting to see if we get rid of Richard Wood, before deciding.

It's between sheffers Thomas and kilbane my vote would be kilbane with sheffers deputy!

Unless the striker is fat Ronaldo then he can have it!

Give it to whoever is best at meeting sponsors and posing for photographs, and tell every player to lead by example regardless of whether they have a piece of cloth round their arm.

Give it a rest. I'd rather he concentrated on building a quality squad than choosing a player to take up this ceremonial position.

So would I. It was an ironic statement not a serious one.

3 still liked the comment though - and I am a voice in the wilderness. Perhaps not. :)

Nor did 3 other people - they liked it

OH MY GOD!!! THREE PEOPLE LIKED YOUR COMMENT!!!

You really should have mentioned it. Additionally you've slandered Thorn on another thread recently, hence my scepticism over the aforesaid 'ironic' statement.

Back from my Scottish tour there seemed to be only one candidate and that was Kilbane . Not only did he shout and controlled the team he also mixed well with the fans . He seemed to be a very nice bloke . the others need to concentrate on there own games

i thknk you've got to give it to a player who plays consistently and has a positive and encouraging influence on the rest of the team.
i wouldn't give it kilbane as he is quite injury prone, macca i think is a possibility but isn't the best defensively and positionally so may struggle with the organisation side. Although he is a cov lad and would worship the role.
I think Thomas would be a good captain, but he's young and still quite inexperienced. With captaincy he would get loads of games under his belt and he's a good overall player who covers the whole pitch so could help every position of the side.

although murphy's not the best keeper, he's a good communicator with the team and is always talking to his players, so may be able to get across to them?

This is getting the CCFC version of footballrumours. 1 injury in nearly 20 years as a pro and over 700 games, but is suddenly injury prone. His legs have gone. Proof? Past it at 35? Our best player for many years was years older and ran all day for us, taking us from relegation candidates to our biggest finish for a gazillion years.

Time to lay off Kilbane. We have a class player. If he was a couple of years younger he would still be in the Prem. If he is shite then say he is shite, but try not to guess he is shite, injury prone or his legs have gone before the 1st game of the season. He could still have a few years left in him yet.

I am not sure why people keep saying Kilbane is injury prone and won't play many games for us. Didn't AT say he was up there with the fittest?

I think he has just been unlucky to have one injury last season.

Kilbane for captain for me, the most experienced and will probably be playing in the middle of the park.

He's not injury prone, but I do worry that at 35 in a physical league he might struggle to play sat-tue-sat week in week out. That's pretty much was carsley said about himself last season.

Having said that I would make him captain.

I haven't seen many people say he is injury prone, it is more the fact he's 35 years old and very few 35 year olds play 40+ games a season. I would love to see Kilbane play 35/40+ games next season, but realistically I think that would be exceptional for a player of his age As for AT saying he was up there with the fittest, it is hardly surprising that he publicly said such a thing considering we were signing a 35 year old on a free.

If Kilbane got injured and Wood fell down a hole and Thomas got struck by lightning and Deegan died of Yellow Fever and Fleck got abducted by aliens and Elliott got swallowed by a whale and Murphy spontaneously combusted and Baker self-imploded and Bell melted and Clarke got stung to death by bees ...... then I would have no hesitation in choosing McSheff to be captain.

Unfortunately, yes.

At least Bell is pretty consistent with his half-hearted efforts. Some games Sheff plays like a man possessed and other games he looks like he doesn't give the slightest shit.

Any anyway, after all that I typed, you are only picking me up on Bell for captaincy ahead of Sheff quip? :D

Haha brilliant...Apologies for using a commonly accepted semantic meaning for the word slander (though if we're going to be pedantic, and evidently we are, the fact it is written and not spoken would make it libel, not slander), which is generally to be negative about someone. As for where you wrote it,
'No hatred - stupid emotional expression - but a view he is hopelessly incapable of performing in his role.

I am not alone.'

Obviously this is your opinion and you're entitled to it, however, as previously said, excuse me for not getting the irony in your previous post 'More dithering from The Clueless One' after your other negative comment about AT. Clearly you have a following of people 'liking' your views, so it must just be me that thinks you're being unfairly critical of a man who is yet to have a real opportunity to prove his credentials..

It's an indication of our squad maybe that there isn't an obvious candidate.

Though I can see great merit in Grenduffy's incarceration; I have to agree with him here. No slander of defamation had taken place given it's the author's expression of opinion. An opinion that may troubled, twisted and as wrong as a Frenchman's socks, but opinion nevertheless

Clingan was the obvious candidate, but he left
Keogh was the obvious candidate, but he left
McPake would have been an obvious candidate, but he left

Wood should be the captain, but he will be leaving

Well defamation belongs in a civil court, not a criminal court, thus there would be no incarceration, instead monetary compensation. Additionally an author would never commit slander of defamation as it is written, and slander is spoken defamation. But yeah it's just a shit opinion.
