Been reading the Brizzle forum. They're disappointed to see Walsh leave. There was a rumour of a player bragging he'd got £20k per week to someone recently and so they're assuming it's him. If it is, I doubt he's coming here. Many of them also believe he'll end up at Ipswich. Surely we're more attractive than them just now.
If he's a fan of Ed Sheerin, we know which one he'll pick.

I'm sure i read on SBT, that a brizzle journo said he was on 8/9k a week ?

Surely we’re in the drivers seat though. He loved his time here, already knows his way around, knows the manager trusts and playing style suits him, fans adore him.

Yeah I feel like as long as we don't take the piss wage wise it's an easy sell. Especially him coming off the back of a bad injury. He will be loved by fans and teammates, will definitely get minutes and he can use us to further his career.

Amazing all this speculation about a player who has not been fit for most of the season,he's got talent alright is it enough that he may not stay fit next season.
I think that's what robins and his staff will thinking about.

Shows how fucked up so many teams in the championship are. Spend 7 figures on a squad player, don’t play him, send him out to L1 where he’s one of the best players in the league then release him after an injured season.

I hope we continue to be smart about the majority of our recruitment.
Just what was the injury that kept him out for a season though? That is a key bit of information that decides whether he is a bargain or a walking liability.

Been following the Walsh situation from a Bristol City perspective (I live nearby). General feeling is that they'd like him to stay, but it's no big deal if he leaves.
I've been wanting him to join us for a year now and am reasonably bored of the non-stop talk over this period! I am just a little concerned about how many central midfielders we will have on our books next year.
Shipley, Allen, Hamer, Kelly, Eccles, O'Hare (I appreciate he is more attacking). I'd love to have Matty James here next year, we'll probably have Sheaf and then we talk about wanting Walsh as well. That just highlights to me that we need to clear some out (Shipley and Allen?) as that's way too many.
Sheaf might not be coming back. Shippley I suspect will move on as will Allen. If that happens we have enough room for Walsh, my concern would be both he and Kelly have concerning sickness records. On this basis I suspect we will keep Shippers as he can play LWB in an extreme emergency.

Its not some mad gamble though is it, the man won player of the season with us a year ago, every single fan would have taken him last summer. He is now a free agent. What is there to get your head round?

We’re an attractive club for ex loan players now. We’ve progressed, seem to have good dressing room camaraderie and on our way up.

We’d never have got O’Hare back in the past, would have been a McGoldrick situation. The move made sense for O’Hare and I think it will for Walsh too.

I think that’ll be Deidhou (sp?) at Boro

Yeah I hope he considers how COH stayed and thrived and will continue to grow here.

Felt like Walsh was an unrealistic target at the end of last season, thought he would of been a big part a bristol city team pushing for promotion, I don’t think a ball playing centre midfielder is our priority but you can’t let players like Liam Walsh (on a free!) pass.

It's less that and more that he has the confidence to drive forward with the ball from deep, whereas Hamer is always looking to spray it out. Having both would allow us to mix up our approach in and between games

Not read all of the thread so can someone tell me if there’s actually been any suggestion at all that he’s coming here?

I don’t think having Walsh, Hamer, James, Kelly, Sheaf is too many CM’s considering we play with at least 3 CM’s. That’s 5 fantastic options for 3 positions

The fact that Walsh has been given a free by Brizzle, just a year after he won player of the season with us, is a fantastic opportunity for us to sign him, and we couldn't have wished for any better outcome...talk about a gift horse.
Players of his quality don't come around too often, and for free is a massive bonus...sign him up.

Absolutely. No brainer for me. Should think the call has already been made. We need to keep possession better next year and he ran the show most games for us - albeit in league 1.

Free transfer doesn't necessarily always mean considerably cheaper deal.

Agents ask for higher fees or more incentive based on the fact no transfer fee is involved
