I think I'd actually prefer two group stages, the 16 lowest ranked teams in 4 groups first, 8 eliminated then the top 8 ranked teams coming in. top two out of that straight to the quarters.

there's talk that they carried on hugging etc in the tunnel etc.

I mean, even for you, that's fantastic.

Don't know why everyone is taking the piss out of David, that is what is being reported. That the three of them had a 20 minute conversation in the tunnel after the match.

Still don't understand how no Scotland players or staff are ruled as close contact, absolute farce

Because it is absolute nonsense.

Where do you draw the line? A hug of 10 seconds is ok, but 11 seconds and it's a mandatory period of self isolation? Come on. They were all over eachother before, during, and after the game. You cannot single out just two people in a stadium scenario, given that those players would then have been washing each others cocks in the showers afterwards too.

Gareth Southgate's interview also seemed very sheepish and he was stuttering and flapping about the two players in question, also dodging the mean reasons for why they have been told to isolate in the first place.

Of course, it is just speculation, but this squad has had some pretty bad discipline problems. Doesn't take a genius to put 2 and 2 together and get 5.

Don't get why Chilwell & Mount have to isolate for the close contact, no word of Steve Clarke having to isolate who did pretty much the same thing as Mount and Chilwell. It's really bizarre.

This is England we are talking about

Like a few others I'm puzzled by the isolation of Mount and Chillwell.

How can a Scotland player be tested positive for covid, yet no one else in the Scotland squad has to isolated but two England players do?

Also why for 24 hours, does that mean we don't need to isolate for 10 days when coming back from an amber country?

The whole thing stinks

Of course it does. Declan Rice grabbed him round the waist in a challenge ...why isn't he self isolating. Making it up as they go along and unfortunately frightened people buy it

All it will be is Mount and Chilwell were spotted hugging Gilmour and thousands of people were whinging about different rules for footballers compared to them. Quick and easy way to stop the whinging is what we are seeing now. (Obviously it won’t though)
It’s purely to stop people crying. Lose lose basically. The negative tests should be enough.

The Covid "rules" as they are are very contradictory & make little sense, I'm sure we all agree, but when it comes to what constitutes "close contact" they're fairly clear. Nothing that happens on the pitch/training ground meets the criteria (hence how project restart was permitted in the first place) but a meet up & chat for 15mins+ in the tunnel definitely does.

That said, how Scotland are getting away with it is baffling. I can only think we're acting on Public Health England advice which they have unilaterally decided doesn't apply to them although I'm pretty sure they've been based in England during the tournament.

Mount and Chilwell out of tonight’s game. Apparently spent 25 mins in tunnel with Gilmore post match. Got to self isolate for 7 days finishing next Monday. Can’t train until next Tuesday. What a fuck up !

Seems the FA are quoting PHE

Very odd. More to the point, what does that mean for tonight’s lineup? My bet is that Rashford comes in on the right and Foden moves central.

Pretty much it, political correctness to prevent a backlash.
