Sorry but qualifiers are fuck all compared to the real thing. I’d rather we limp through qualifying then make it to the semi finals each time than batter qualifying and go home after 4 turgid games.
Youre totally wrong. I was convinced we would win the whole thing after beating Andorra 6-0.

Have you noticed though,no team as yet have been full on attacking towards England? All 3 teams faced so far have been quite dour in their approach....will be interesting to see how England play when faced with, say,Italy with their fast (er) footy

Very true, it will suit us more I’d say

They had some proper painful games like the 1st one against Switzerland, a large part of the game against Scotland and the win on pens against Spain.

We should have lost v Spain, but played well v Germany, and the opening match was a real stinker.

They were the best I’d say, but they weren’t like Brazil ‘82 or anything like it- Rose tinted specs in evidence.

But they had the loveable El Tel so anything is forgiven

The 1990 team were pretty shoddy in places and did like an extra time win

This England team that people expect Southgate to be playing- it doesn’t exist, it has never existed, and If people think otherwise they’re severely deluded and don’t really understand the game. They just want to moan and ‘demand to be entertained’ as though Southgate can get Mings, Walker and Kane playing like Tele Santana’s Brazil team in 1982

Whoever we play next it will be a totally different game

Still needs to sack off 2 holding midfielders though. Doesn't have to play 2 10's but 1 of the 2 needs a bit more adventure

Exactly. There has never been a free scoring England team who’d thrash decent teams on a regular basis, yet now we’re absolutely destroying Southgate for winning the group because we didn’t “entertain”- it’s a joke

Under Southgate we’ve been to two semi finals too, which no England manager has done for a long while.

Since Southgate’s club record has been brought up, I’d like to point out Joachim Löw’s career highlight in club football is managing FK Austria Wien.

If we get thrashed by whomever we play in the round of 16, let the inquisition start. But, otherwise, we’ve topped the group without conceding - that’s only a good thing.

With Sweden looking likely to top their group as things stand, we could feasibly get to another semi final if we win at Wembley next week.

It's a difficult one, because I don't particularly rate Southgate, he's there by proxy really, and we don't look great at times.

However on results, what more can we expect him to do? Now it's knockout, it'll also be down to chance and the luck falling at the right time too.

I was in the Eddie Howe camp when Southgate took the job. It’s the stupid criticism that’s the problem- he’s done way better than anyone would have expected, has already achieved more than any England manager aside from 2, and he does not have the tools at his disposal to play the way people seemingly want him to.

No problem with criticism, but should be based on reality instead of lazy stereotypes

Slovakia committed hari kari in the first half - Levendowski missed 3 times in one hilarious attack that you couldn’t make up

Last thing I said before leaving work was that I thought Slovakia would give Spain a good game. In a way they have.
