I think I’m right in saying it was you who said lots of our players would walk into the France team wasn’t it?

Absolutely , this has absolutely ZERO to do with the manager , my decision was based on club form which I said at the time.

That's got Jack shizen to do with Southgate getting the best from our team

Italy are way out in front as the best team I’ve seen so far

It’s a wide open tournament, nobody stands out as obvious favourites

But Southgate has got more out of his team than Joachim Low has got out of Germany?

To be fair, he's got a world Cup trophy that buys him some time

Exactly. Before his success he was criticised quite heavily for his negativity.

Tolisso is playing on the right. They have the likes of Dembele, Martial, Coman and so on in that slot. Matuidi started on the left wing in their world cup winning side.

Even if France go on to lose (I don’t think they will) you’d be a fool to discount them after an underwhelming group stage.

We can't compare Southgate to deschamps

A man who won marseille a league title , juventus a title and France a world Cup and a european championship runner up

Are we all thinking straight here

But we don’t have a single English manager with a record anywhere near that. There are no options.

Can you not see that you are asking and expecting the utterly impossible?

We don't have to employ an English manager ... footballs about winning ... get a winner in

There’s no rule, but I personally think the manager should be from the country he’s managing.

Its a terrible & embarrassing state of affairs when a country like England can’t find an English manager

He won Serie B with Juventus. Just to clarify for the audience.

Deschamps is a good manager, but was undoubtedly in the managerial wilderness before going to France.

In fact, lost to Hodgson’s England and knockout at the quarters in 2012 and 2014. Then, things started coming together for France leading up to 2016.

Joachim Löw, who managed FK Austria Wien, is one of the best international managers in the 2010s. The Netherlands have De Boer who had a torrid time at Palace in the Prem.

Club management does not equate to success in international management.

I just can't, if you are happy with the direction we are going then fair enough ...that's your opinion and I disagree .

If you want to keep Southgate if we fail , then that's fine ..

There are many of us who won't want to

I like Southgate, and whatever happens I think he’ll be in charge for the WC. His record is good, despite reserved tactics. I don’t buy the easy route argument, he can’t control who we play, his job is to beat the opposition which he’s done better than others have in a long time.

Equally, we have such an array of talent and he hasn’t utilised them as effectively as he could have - at least in terms of performance. I would hope now Maguire is back, he may allow the full backs and/or one of the CM’s more freedom.

Ironically despite being our best striker by a mile, Kane’s tendency to drop deep impedes selection somewhat, as he needs to play a Sterling/Rashford/Sancho/Saka as he needs a runner, which is why he can’t/won’t play Foden/Grealish/Mount as the three behind him.
