To be fair he’s the most successful England manager for a while.

You wouldn’t think so though. For some reason, he has so many naysayers.

For me, qualifying and friendlies mean nothing. We’ve had countless managers whose ticked those boxes and underachieved at the major tournament - when you earn your money. Capello and Hodgson qualified with almost impeccable records, yet failed miserably at the major tournament.

Fair play to Southgate, I’ve always had a good feeling about him, even if he’s not the most accomplished manager.

Like many people on this board, I am on top of the world right now!

Southgate is easily the best option and the best manager we’ve had since Robson

I don't know never been a fan ..

Maybe I should come round 🤷‍♂️

For me I struggle to enjoy negative football , I guess sometimes you have to balance negative tactics and results..

I'd rather win the euros full stop and if that's done by playing like arsenal in the early 90s then so be it

Pickford deserves some credit - never been a fan myself - but kept well.
Do like Phillips - think he brings something extra to that midfield.

Ah come on, don’t make out you two are in the same boat

Evo says his piece and backs it up, you just constantly whine and and say stupid things like “it’s like Southgate is deliberately trying to throw the match”, “punished for going forward” etc, some of the comments you’ve made have been really embarrassing

Nah , Bobby Robson was a better manager than Southgate...played better football too

Southgate has the ability to harness players and get them playing for England and really wanting to play. It’s looked a chore for many years but it’s clear he’s very very good at getting the players to play like they are a collective not just individuals, it makes the likes of Cappello look embarrassing

It was when all is said and done the same under Robson wasn't it ?
He had the same togetherness with the squad in 90 .

We were very unfortunate to not win that too

Robson was until then hated as manager - the same as Southgate

Their records say otherwise, and it’s more competitive now

Tournaments are LESS competitive now as more lower ranked sides have access .

England destroy the qualifiers every time whats with all the competitive nonsense 🤣

No it wasn’t. He failed to qualify for Euro ‘84, had a decent Workd Cup ‘86, shocking Euro ‘88 and a good Italia ‘90- but had some luck as Belgium should have beat us and we all remember Cameroon. There were people calling for the team to be brought home after the first game, and he was booed by the whole ground at some games.

All the respect in the world for Robson and he definitely wins in the ‘legend’ stakes, but take the sentimentality away and Southgate is doing a better job than Robson did, and that’s a fact.

Pushing hard on being a dickhead yet again I see. Finding the performances boring isn't a crime and it doesn't mean I don't want to see us win, get over it.

I'm always a club over country man, but really hard not to get wrapped up in this. Loved the build up today and yesterday's 2 games were outstanding. Loving the football and would really love us to win this one, especially with so many young players in the squad. Proper feelgood factor around too.

Will say the same as I’ve said for the last week. If this was any other nation playing like we have in the 4 games we’d be praised for being efficient and for how Southgate has us set up for controlling games. Think back to 2010. Spain were lorded for all that attacking talent and flair. Scored and conceded very few goals playing “dull” football and won the whole thing. There’s still a long way to go yet but this is looking very very good.

Are you going to Rome?

Fair point .

And the real point is who would you replace him with? If it’s England only what is there?

I thought Sven was a pretty good manager who got into the England way and tournament games and we were unlucky against Brazil - cappello was horrendous

I have nothing to get over, it’s not me with a whole omelette on my face, it was you hyping up Capello as a much better England manager 😆

Really? He was shite
