Think most against Thorn saying that Thorn should have been gone last season, but seems a lot would still prefer that we perservere with a poor manager who won't get us anywhere again.

Am neither pro or anti Thorn and its only friendlies, however the last 4 games do not install any confidence that results are going to improve. I was willing to give AT 20 games to let his new team settle in but am looking closer to 10 games now.

We have to get out of this league this season, if AT cannot do this get someone who can? The majority of this squad should be competent enough for this league so it will then be down to tactics / motivation.

He has to be given some time to create the new team and it has to be judged on League performances. However he doesnt have the same leeway or goodwill as last season so that time to prove himself and the team is going to be relatively short. If after 8 or 10 games there is no obvious improvement or adequate results then the question will have to be asked by TF etc is AT the man for the job. It may still be that they conclude the best thing is to give more time but AT is now under pressure to succeed with no where really to hide. Personally I have serious doubts he can pull it off but hope I am wrong

All totally reasonable and a good assessment - what worries me most is that we just don't have the time to 'wait and see' - a poor start to the season and a change of manager mid-way will be a total disaster

We are coming up to the most important season we have faced for years - we HAVE to succeed this year - a poor League result will ruin us

Do you work for a business? Does it have an MD? If so, what did he start doing? Or was he born and then given the job?

There are quite a lot of fans that have been warning that League 1 will be a tough proposition,that we are not nailed on to be challenging, that just because we sign 7 players it doesnt mean we have a team, that just because AT is allowed to sign players doesnt mean he is (or isnt) a good manager. Reality check really isnt it..... this coming season was always going to be a tough one and as usual with CCFC a roller coaster ride.

we still have a strong core from last year,a team that went down on penultimate day,we added some signings(some who seem like real prospects) i dont think its deluded to assume we will be challenging

we have blamed the squad fpr years,when we will we take a look at the manager?

people say sacking managers dont work,well it kept us in championship for a decade! first time we stuck with a manager we got relegated

I don't agree with people writing these losses off as 'just friendlies', Thorn has put out his supposed best team now 3 times and they have been fairly woeful each time against average opposition. Posters keep referring to this capable team we have assembled but in truth it is still a very weak squad with a dreadful set of strikers, a goalkeeper who doesn't command his area and a smattering of inexperienced kids. I hope Thorn hasn't fucked up with his signings because SISU will not allow another manager to come in and sign a load more.

If you watch the Video of Cody at Gillingham, he scored most of his goals coming in from the wing. Kilbane Is reknowned for his midfield role as well as full back.
I've been worried for the last 4 games mate, 5 goals scored last night and not one from a Coventry player!

I agree thats certainly part of it ......... trouble is the losing mentality has been instilled for years and will be hard to shift. That mentality has to come from the top...... The club itself has been in a mess financially, lacked direction etc ........ AT i am afraid doesnt come across as particularly positive in a convincing way, could be argued is too close to the players and sets up the team to be safe ..... the players lack a leader on the pitch who sets and drives standards and performance ...... some players are too comfortable and others too new or young. A winning mentality has to come from the manager, backed by the club.................

But Thorn has an eye for a player - he is a Premier League Scout that we are lucky to have. Given no player has been signed in this league for a fee (couple undisclosed at Bournemouth to be fair) surely this works to our strengths. No one doubts the ability to spot a player.............do they?

Football player to football scout to football manager is only one-step removed from the 'more accepted' football player to football manager. Indeed, one could argue his career path is more enriched by the additional experience.

Hello all, my first post. Regarding the comments, he was only a scout,player,physio.
Probably one of the best players of my generation Bobby Charlton could not hack it, and failed badly at Preston. Alex Fergerson could not lace his boots as a player but look what he has done.
Jimmy Hill was bought to Coventry by D. Robbins with no coaching badges, straight from
having his career bought short by injury. His man managment skills were second to none.
JH was lucky having a chairman like Robins who gave him £30,000 pounds (no small sum at the time) and said by me a forward line. The rest is history as they say.
This is not an anti Thorn comment but even given money could or would it be spent wisely?

The Sales Manager where I work is crap. Great sales guy but can't handle man management. It's significantly harder than most think. Some people therefore shy away. Some folk stay away for a while and then give it a shot. Maybe Thorn's in the latter category? Like the Sales Manager I elude to? Maybe he'll improve?

He just needs to be given a fair shot to succeed or fail. Then we can judge him. But not after a couple of friendlies and a troubled season like last, surely?

What does changing a manager do yeah we always go on a good run but it always comes to a halt and followed by a losing streak, do we then do it again and again. I've been with you all along on these sentiments MMM but am now getting concerned, he's still constricted by budget I agree but he doesn't seem to be addressing the core requirements of the team.........I'E 'A goalscorer/poacher' and 'some pace'. As it stands we are in danger of being all too predictable and easy to play against. His main aim is consistently to shut up shop at the back and all be it only friendlies but we've only managed 1/2 goals in the last 4 matches.
