I find it strange that the Bears are the only team to be city specific in the Blast, any idea why that is?
Other counties have more respect for their fanbase. Don't see Leeds Vikings going down well at all up there.

Birmingham council gave them a loan for the new stand and part of the deal was a name change to promote Birmingham if I remember correctly, it creates issues with the hundred side being Birmingham as well.

I think they changed an end as well from the city end to the Birmingham end.

Supposedly some market research said they'd get more fans in if they just went with Birmingham because they're an untapped market and the demographic make-up is now much more multi-cultural. With it not being in Warwickshire any more the youngsters don't feel any affinity to it but they do to Birmingham. Just makes them feel it's for old fuddy-duddys and posh/snobby people.

Bet it's made no difference. Either you want to watch T20 or you don't. For as many new people as they may have brought in they alienated similar numbers of Warwickshire supporters who don't live in Birmingham.
Still hard to see how splitting a brand helps the overall company.
Similar with these Hundred names - will London Spirit be that much more appealing than the Oval Invincibles based on a name? Yorkshire played it safe with Northern whereas Lancashire nailed their colours firmly to Manchester.

Interesting signing by the Bears another keeper batsman (they are not batters)
Strange one for me in that Burgess has looked decent and Benjamin can play white ball. Davies a good player but specialist batsmen would still remain the priority for me.
Really hoping Yates gets a start against India today and we can see how he gets on against a better attack

Quite possibly. Thing with cricket is it's never had as wide an appeal as football so needed a wider catchment area to generate enough of a fanbase to be viable. T20/100 are shorter games and more dynamic so keep your attention more, which would appeal more to the younger generation. Birmingham will have a large Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi community who may well see Warwickshire as being very white, middle-to-upper class and not representing them. Birmingham would do so more.

the 'traditional' cricket fans were never really on board with shortened formats so they probably went for the name change there because there was already resistance anyway amongst their fanbase. If it hadn't worked out they'd have reverted back.

I wonder if they have signed him to be a specialist, I always thinks with Burgess that he is a quick 40 kind of batsman and doesn’t seem to go on.

Just had a quick look at the stream on YouTube and will have a little sleep and then watch a couple of hours later on, India are batting and it’s a lovely day.

bit of a shame they've put a couple of Indian players in the Counties team rather than a couple of youngsters getting a chance

Anyone watching The Hundred?
Was busy last night but hoping to catch the men's game tonight. Tempted to go and watch the Manchester v Birmingham double header at Old Trafford on Sunday too, some really good players in that game and only £16 for the whole day

I watched it last night and I thought this could do with some more balls (no pun intended) maybe another 20 might work.

All they needed to do was quicken up the teams in in t20.

I am not sure it was wise to start with a women’s match as the quality is pretty low catches we’re going down that my kids would have caught.

I will watch the odd game but won’t be hunting down the games to watch if they are on when I switch the tv on I will watch.

I think starting with the women was to attract more fans to that game as it was the very first. If the men had played yesterday and the women today almost no-one would've been at the women's game, whereas the first men's game will generate greater interest anyway. It's USP was being the first ever game in the tournament.

I’m going Friday to Edgbaston.

Will be my first ever cricket match in the UK and only the second one in my life.

And yes I got free tickets. 😁

I agree it's a bit unnecessary when it's so similar to T20 but with the Sky contract putting most cricket behind a paywall until 2024 at least, I'm all for them doing something new and sticking it on the BBC to make it more accessible for young and/or potential fans. I think if I'm free of an evening and there's a game on that doesn't clash with football or other cricket I'll probably stick it on

Silly names, garish graphics and constant chatter. Just a complete slog. Not for the purist!

The graphics do seem to be the only difference with T20. Cricket not different so far. Commentators doing their best to pump it up on BBC.

The graphics are very busy, just about got used to them now. I do like how the side graphics grow with score/balls in the first innings and shrink for the chase.

Agree with you guys, the cricket is much the same. Just the gimmicks are different

Green shirts bowling but green graphics are for the batting side. Could be a bit less confusing!

Not a Bears fan myself but wow. This guy has introduced himself in the last week!

The Hundred: Chris Benjamin fires Birmingham Phoenix to win over London Spirit https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/57949800

“Last Sunday he smashed 60 from 34 balls to take Warwickshire to victory in the Twenty20 Blast and, when fellow wicketkeeper-batter Adam Hose was sidelined with injury, he was called up

Sunday's T20 was his first professional match, making him the least experienced player in the competition.”

Alright then, who the hell are Southern Brave? Sussex?

The names are enough to put me off, along with the ZX Spectrum graphics!
