Made some great signings. Have they had a cash injection or something?

New owners I think. Paul Cook as manager. Signed Raheem Harper from WBA, plus a couple of others iirc.

Think Sunderland may struggle to go up again - must be galling for their fanbase, having had that billionaire get involved - but done little in the transfer market.

Football insider (yes they are usually reliable) saying that Bayliss is available for loan with a number of Champ and a league 1 sides interested. Would take him tbh

He’s a Derby fan and they are desperate for players.

Apart from the investing in the team part

To be fair SISU bought some decent players in when they took over. Problem was they sold them almost immediately for the quick profit when they failed to get us promotion.

Did they? Can't think of many we made profit from - Dann stands out. I think with Fox we hardly made anything

Think he means hard cash injection as opposed to paper profit

Wasn’t one of the reasons Dowie left that he wanted to sign Darren Moore but we went and bought Fox & Dann?

I doubt it, Fox and Dann were scouted by Dowie and Flowers according to the latter

Think when Davenport was sold we had about £250k of the proceeds to spend. Remember the Telegraph reporting we were in for Darren Moore and Malky Mackay. Think we ended up spending the money on Stern John and bringing Dean Leacock in on loan.

Matt Grimes leaving Swansea for Fulham. Swansea may well be a lot weaker this season with the effect of losing parachute payments hitting them hard,

Dowie scouted them - well his brother I assume - a lot of the cash never went on players - the funding over the length of time they’ve been here had been wafer thin really

Sure it’s nothing but Hamer’s missus has put a post on Instagram saying ‘last day in Kenilworth’…

Don’t disagree at all. Could have sworn there was some commotion about Darren Moore at the time, I must be mixed up.

Kenilworth is nicer than Leamington for the most part.

Yeah but when you're loaded you can be picky.

Pretty sure we made a hefty profit on Fox. Over a million at least. Think they also ended up funding some of the earlier transfers like Borrowdale, Best and Simpson, who we all made a profit on. Gunnarson as well we made some profit on.

But yeah some of the big signings like Eastwood, Westwood and Bell where they either failed or we didn't get them on a longer contract we made pretty big losses on.

Third season they starting selling off the silver and although they spent some of the money on transfers we still made around £4.5m profit. Almost all of those signings left on a free too.

Basically they refused to give the decent players new contracts on higher wages and eventually they just ran their contracts down and left. Any attempt to keep them with a new deal was too late by then.

After that it was clear they'd lost faith in funding transfers and started to bring in a lot of loan players and freebies and we just steadily got worse.

Didn't Gunnarsson leave on a free?
