Disagreeing or missing?ITT people spectacularly missing the point others are making.
We scored 6 in a final meaningless game. Over the prior 45 only one team scoring less finished in the top 12 - scoring has been an issue and lack of quality forwards has been identified as a big problem clearly
So no then ok
Nice profile picture sirWith a lot of players out of contract, there's the potential once the season starts that players may get desperate and need a club and could be a cheap backup.
ThanksNice profile picture sir

Something which will be key for our start this season is having a couple of forwards who can actually hold the ball up. Early last season it kept coming back at us far too quickly so our defence was under a lot of pressure (Walker makes good runs off the ball but it just isn't his game to hold the ball up). I don't know if it was deliberate or not to sign forwards rather than defenders first this window but so long as we do get a half decent pacy left sided CB I think we will be fine this year.
I think this season we will be trying to win the ball much higher up the pitch and we've signed the players to allow us to do that. I'm expecting us to play much more like the Brentford game. No nonsense at the back with Waghorn, Gyo, O'Hare, Hamer, Sheaf and the wing backs all pressing hard in the opposition's half.Missing. People are blathering on about Bakayoko who played 300 minutes all season when the point is our attack was poor because we had to use quantity rather than quality to plug the leaks on the pitch.
We had two strikers who if fit were on track to score as many as Waghorn on his best season. Maybe we needed another, I can accept that. But we’ve clearly spent the majority of the budget on two and still have the issues at the back that meant we couldn’t get out of our half half the time last season.
You’re saying that was Robins choice, if so then it’s a departure from his normally sensible transfer strategies of previous seasons.
Please let’s not play down how good Matt James wasRe the comments around the transfer signings not going to plan, missing out on targets, scrapping the barrel etc. How do we know that’s the case? Who’s to say Waghorn, Gyokeres, Maasten et al weren’t our first choice signings? Unless Better Days, or maybe one of the new ITK’s confirms otherwise, why look at it with pessimism.
Bright is the only one who probably wasn’t a target but could be inspired.
We sign JCS and we’ve got an Ostigard replacement.
We’ve replaced McCallum with a player who has the same, if not slightly more, experience (and a better pedigree) than McCallum did at the start of last season.
RWB is arguably stronger assuming Dabo is fit.
CM - people are looking back with rose tinted glasses; James was good but let’s see what a Sheaf and Hamer partnership can do.
Striker - significantly stronger.
Let’s see who else we bring in - I’m confident the squad will end up stronger.

Like when Waghorn robbed their player on the corner of the box and won a penalty you mean? When they played a high back line we picked out the space over the top, when they dropped deep, we got the wingbacks high.Didn’t see any of that high pressure stuff people think we are gonna play against wolves

Yes, the same aggressive style we adopted from the Rotherham game onwardsI think this season we will be trying to win the ball much higher up the pitch and we've signed the players to allow us to do that. It was definitely there, we won a penalty from it.Didn’t see any of that high pressure stuff people think we are gonna play against wolves
They are disagreeing, not missing
Its blatantly obvious what he is saying, that nobody thinks we didn't need new attackers, but priorities should have been elsewhere. Which is a perfectly valid view.
Other people (I'm one of them) think that attackers were just as much of a priority because we failed to score in more games than almost every other side, and not having options up front completely dictated the way we had to play. I think thats also very valid.
Who's to say who's right or wrong, nobody will know for a fair few weeks/ months yet, but I don't think its any more than a discussion about how we're trying to develop the way we play and what players are needed to set about it.
One thing that gets lost in all this is that it seems to being taken for granted that Waghorn is a huge improvement- his scoring record was terrible last year- fair bit of pressure on him to deliver not just experience & nous but a few more goals than he scored last year.

Amidst all the screeching can I just say I'm absolutely fucking buzzing for Sunday...
Added some quality attacking players and get to see the Sky Blues in the flesh playing live football in one of the most competitive leagues in the world for the first time in a decade.
Just imagine seeing O'Hare stick one top bins and celebrate in front of actual real life fans in a stadium in Coventry where we belong
PUSB
100% agreed.
The concerns about recruitment this time around have been articulately expressed but it's time to back the team and Robins.
So park the pessimism lads ahead of the new season - review again when we are 10 games in and know more about where we are in terms of league position and signings.
You joke, but you know!10 games? I’m waiting for the first misplaced pass on Sunday
Lets be fair as long as we get in a CB or 2 and CM of decent quality we will be stronger than last year.
Ideally bin off the likes of Jobello Hillsner Allen etc to get some budget for a loan in Jan if need
Only waghorn is a departure and possibly Moore
I completely take your point about requiring a replacement for osti - there will be one. We also probably need another permanent signing to replace mcfad and we could do with another in cm. I think what I’m saying I agree with you that defence will miss osti - we don’t know how hard we’ve tried to replace him, I don’t think it works that you focus on one area and forget the others but it takes longer to get one player or one position.
I don’t know if robins and boddy and fisher and seppalla have fallen out. I suspect we’d never know.
Facts are boddy has said Covid is a huge challenge
Robins wants 3 more in
Are you not taking any confidence from having a seasons experience in the league for rose hyam and Dabo?Even if we signed Osti we’d be the same team that needed 9 defensive players on the pitch to stop leaking goals.
I think going forward we have much more talent this season. Maatsen looks better in the final third than McCallum, Sheaf is much more progressive than Kelly, a fit Dabo is a threat. But defensively Maatsen looks like a downgrade, our main CB is a year older, and our keeper doesn’t inspire confidence IMO. So I don’t see how we’re going to utilise this new found attacking talent when we’ll need them all behind the ball protecting the back line.
