I don't doubt that a CB would rather face Walker over Gyorkeres but Gyorkeres is a battering ram, the CB will come out the other side feeling a bit stiff in the morning but Walker is a far superior finisher and has better movement in and around the box. His goal against Watford last season was absolutely superb, on the half volley, drilled it into the bottom corner, with the outside of the foot from outside the box, skysports would be wetting themselves if it was scored by one of the stars in the prem.

I didn't mean because of a physical battle, I meant that Gyokeres has more to his game full stop. Seemingly better at holding up play, winning headers, running the channels, and pressuring defenders. All vital for us. It's why Biamou, despite his shortcomings, played so often last season, often with Walker sat on the bench.

Don't really get your point there either, one good strike doesn't mean he's better than Waghorn and Gyokeres.

Anyway I like Walker, just don't understand the pov that he's our best striker.

If you're going to make these points at least give provide context.

The point about him being top scorer isn't really valid based on Waghorn not being here and Gyokeres not playing many games. He also scored 7 goals, which is at best, 'ok'.

Whilst there were times when Biamou was there because others were injured, that wasn't the only reason he played. We'd play a game with Walker up top, have no way of progressing up the pitch and then Robins would go with Biamou to try and get a result. Biamou was released because he'd come to the end of his contract, he'd reached his limit and he's older and less valuable. Walker has years left on his contract, and is younger, potential to improve and has value.

I don't get this idea that we can ignore whoever's beyond the first team because they might not start. We're going to need to rotate and have strength beyond just the starting XI to stay the course. As it is we're pretty low on depth in most areas

no we didn’t but we probably planned to. Blatantly didn’t work and whether that was because it will never work & we’ve misjudged who we have or first day hiccups- no idea.

I’m agreeing with you on Walker. Only thing is that Walker is only really ever going to be judged on goals, whereas Waghorn is going to be judged on goals too, but maybe just as much on his general ‘forward play’

Yeah he's a good goal scorer with a proven record (certainly where he's had enough game time in L1 and 2) but I think you have to question the other parts of his game.

I like Walker and I'm not bashing him, but just don't think he warrants a starting place at the moment.

Maybe it’s me but I think a goal scorer always deserves a position. I also didn’t see much from Waghorn to make his legendary build up play worth dropping your top scorer for.

Walker for me drags defenders about and creates space for the likes of O’Hare to play, I thought that’s what he gave on Sunday. Waghorn seemed to want to drop deep to the same place and it made us easier to defend against.

All opinions though, we’ll see where we are at the end of the season.

Waghorn looked to be lacking some sharpness. I think it was the introduction of Jones that made the bigger difference though as his starting position was higher than Maatsen

That's fair enough, Gyokeres & Waghorn aren't main striker options IMO, neither are particularly good finishers, but they have other things that they bring to it, Walker strikes a ball a lot cleaner, hits the corners a lot more often with shots, forcing the keeper into a save etc. Once he's fully fit and has a run of games, I think he'll be banging them in. It's a Stern John vs Dele Adebola debate. Happy to have a charity bet on which one being top scorer come the end of the season.

I think Gyokeres is a good finisher. Never seen him miss a good chance. I think the question is more whether he wil getinto the right positions enough to score a lot of goals. Only time will tell.

Waghorn also brings a lot of experience and is decent at freekicks. Let’s not write a player off for being slightly underwhelming in the first game of the season.

He also defends from the front and presses, something which is isn’t a strength of Walker. I suspect this is partly why he’s been brought in. It would be interesting to see how him and Walker play together.

We’ve got four strikers we’d be happy to see start a game, when was the last time that happened?! They will all be needed during a long championship season.

Waghorn seemed to be playing in the areas that you’d normally see O’Hare running in to , for me he stifled him as an attacking threat . Was no coincidence that when Waghorn was subbed O’Hare suddenly had more space and was able to create more

Hopefully Robins will be working on that in training

Its a long season and all our forwards should get plenty of game time. While Gyokeres and Waghorn have started the season as the favoured starters, different opposition will require different approaches and we will need them all to do their bit.
