Wouldn’t dream of disagreeing with that. First on the sheet when fit.

if he’s first name on the team sheet it’s not exactly great regarding our recruitment is it over the last two seasons

Come on, such a spurious argument. He would be the first on the team sheet because he is a leader and a fine player. I know that you are a glass half empty chap, but when we have won a league and consolidated in those two seasons, using the recruitment argument is frankly stupid.

Hes a decent lower league player. He’s not Championship quality and quality is what we need. If we’re relying on Kelly we’re in trouble. Need to get out of the “L1 club just happy to be here” mentality TBH.

I would play him with Sheaf. I have seen both Hamer and Sheaf live now over the past two games and Sheaf has been walking the tightrope that I expected Hamer to be on disciplinary front but Hamer takes half an hour to get his game together and everything is rushed, not unlike OHare.

I recall seeing stats last season with and without Kelly and it favoured having Kelly in.
He’s injury prone now unfortunately but still an important cog in our team. I would feel differently if we have James but we don’t.
Injury prone? He smashed his leg into the goal post making a challenge didn't he?

“Kelly is a decent lower league player”

Has there been a lot to suggest Sheaf has much more than a “decent lower league player”? I don’t particularly. The beauty of forums in the 21st century is that you’re allowed to disagree without being an arse about it.

clearly he’s an up and coming player whose now in the championship- remember Kelly started his England career as a championship player and was moved on by his club to lower levels

In other words, no. Thanks anyway.

He’s significantly better than Kelly. It’s not even close. Pass completion is the big thing, Sheaf keeps the ball much better than Kelly, and has a much much better passing range. Sheaf has already pulled off passes in the first two games Kelly could only dream of.

Performs more tackles at about the same success rate, so wins the ball more.

Is taller and faster and more of an attacking threat.

One was sold by Arsenal to a Championship club after youth level, the other came up at MK Dons and went to Scotland. Before having to drop to L2.

clearly yes. He’s career is on an upwards trajectory and he’s clearly a far better player now - as he should be

A light bulb suddenly seemed to go off in Hamer’s head yesterday and he looked a lot more like his previous self in the second half. Not sure what was said to him but he needs to channel that and keep it going, some brilliant tackles and the distribution was far better.

Thank God there's another game on Tuesday. Don't think I could take a whole week of bickering over Player A v Player B, with duplicate account accusations on the side.

Well he sure gave a very decent impression of being Championship quality last season.
Some on here certainly have the view that if a player has risen up the divisions with us then that player is not Champ quality - it's not always the case.

There's only one problem with your "expert" analysis.
He didn't look poor.

oh look here’s Danny. Oddly when Waghorn gets dogs abuse he says nothing - I think we all know why

Not at all. What I saw from Kelly last season were qualities you want in a scrap or a lower league campaign: scrambles the ball away, drops deep into the area, shouts and cajoles when we’re under the cosh. Useful in a relegation scrap but never going to elevate the midfield to the next level, never going to unlock a defence and always going to keep pressure on the team.

But the jump from L2 to Championship is huge and it’s very very rare for a player in their late twenties or early thirties to make it. No shame in that.

I think some people on here confused footballing ability with how much they like a player or how they’ve done for the club. It’s not personal, it’s inevitable as we progress as a club we need to replace the players that got us there. That’s how we progressed.

With Kelly it comes down to what your expectations are with regards to league position and where you want us to be.

I would suggest his attributes at this level now lend itself to a team that will be without the ball, under pressure and you need a screen infront of the back line.

From what I've seen so far in our couple of league games and how we're trying to control the game a little bit more than last season, I wouldn't want Kelly in that starting line up. Despite what one of our favourite tunes say, he does indeed give the ball away.

Disagree. Kelly is Championship quality.

I'm not sure me , I think Kelly looks after the back line better than both hamer and sheaf and tends to do more of the dirty work .
His distribution is below both that's a fair enough point .
Yesterday sheaf put in a feable attempt of a challenge to allow the pass forward for their goal ...piss poor you could say so there's a balance to be had ... do you want 2 good ball playing central midfielders or do you want a gritty warrior to complement your ball playing midfielder .

One thing that was always clear is when Kelly is In the side it allows the other midfielder more freedom ..that's fact .
