Do you think jcs was free?

Of course not? Where was that said in my post?

He certainly isn't going to be anywhere near that price range. Certainly nowhere near 25k a week and certainly not a 500k loan fee I'd imagine. And I don't imagine he's considered a potential 8 figure sum player?

Bit of a strange post from you Pete that?

Sorry!
It was more how close to that so we think jcs was in terms of a loan fee? Rather than the accusatory tone it came across as.

Ah that makes much more sense! I was very confused then! No worries.

Going off previous articles on loan fees etc and the status of the club etc. I'd expect low 6 figures loan fee with JCS... so not insignificant to be fair.

But probably about at most 1/5th of the wages compared to Davies.

Bit off topic for the current conversation but it looks like Joe Bennett is probably gonna go to Middlesbrough. That leaves us with Neil Taylor as the only realistic LWB option IMO, besides giving Souare a call back. Anyone else available for free within our budget that could possibly do a job for us? I’ll also add Lassana Faye since we love the odd dutchie, did ok when playing for ADO Den Haag, bagged an assist in 1000 minutes total, likes pushing up field to cross it, his distribution skills look very decent, also a nice dribbler, defensively good too. wouldn’t be bad backup to Maatsen, maybe good chemistry since they’re both dutch? I’m clutching at straws here aren’t I.

Neil Taylor is awful, would be gutted if we signed him

We wont be getting somebody on a free. It will be a loan player, so could be anyone really.

Did Chelsea extend his contract before he joined us? According to Transfermarkt his current deal expires next summer. He turns 24 in September so don't think any compensation would be due if we did sign him on a Bosman.

No, you are right he would be free and they have no real reason to extend given their plethora of talent at CB, although I guess that hasn't stopped them before, but given he is out of contract there is no option to buy.

Assuming we don’t lose anyone (big assumption) and we pick up JCS on a free, we could be just a LWB and likely a replacement for Fadz away from a young first XI of Championship quality all owned by us. That’s quite exciting.

Where would be next to improve in that first team:

Moore
Rose CB JCS
Dabo Hamer Sheaf LWB
O’Hare
Györkeres Walker

?

I really hope that it is a loan. I wouldn't want us signing a back up permanently, unless they were a young prospect. We would be stuck paying their wages for at least two seasons in all likelihood.

Robins words
"The club has been brilliant, absolutely brilliant. I think they do brilliantly to help support me and the staff."

And who's gonna argue with the king... PUSB

Rose and walker both need to get and stay fit, at the moment you would say those two. Come the end of the season it will be a more interesting debate.

Personally I'm big fans of both especially Walker, but I want to seem them both stay fit before breaking down again.

After the positions you have said it's really about adding quality in depth. CB, 10, CM, RWB, LWB all need better depth, but then potentially some of that's in the pipeline in the likes of Burroughs, Reid, Howley. Will they make the step up in 12 months who knows!

Are you Hyam’s?
Hyam is just better right here right now. Management seem to agree and have agreed pretty much for about 2 years when both are fit and are available.

One's already worth so much more than the other on pure games/experience. Age not much in it. One is a proven championshiop defender.

Not sure how you figure that. Rose wasn’t fit at all last year and the year before played RCB ahead of Hyam all season. Robins has said he sees Rose as his best defender.

Hyam was poor last season and has been responsible for a lot of goals conceded as well as stifling our attacking play on the left.

Regardless, swap Rose for Hyam if it makes you happy, the point of the post still stands.

We should get Joy to get her hand in her purse and splash out for PEC Zwolle LWB Paal

It's a myth to think Rose has a higher ceiling.

Its to Hyams credit he stepped up and played LCB last year when he's right footed.

Rose never has got in ahead of Hyam when both fit. That's a fact.

Let me tell you another fact. Rose won't get in the team ahead this year either if he's fit.

The lad can't defend his positional sense is awfull. Rose had some shockers in the limited games he played.

I'm more than happy we got both.

Both similar ish ages...both got areas to work on. Both imo have a potentially high ceiling.

Yeah was gonna say. Neither hyam or Rose are bully cbs.

Yeah think that’s fair. Still we’ve brought in roughly three starters each summer (Hamer, O’Hare, Walker last year, Sheaf, Györkeres, Moore this), so a CB, LCB (JCS?), LWB next summer would be doable next summer.

Tbf to you I think Hyam could play centrally would actually likely suit him. He likes to attack the ball himself I think he just lacks potentially the same leadership we would lose with fadz more than anything.

But you are right we do seem to be building well over each year, nice to see be able to see the team building over the course of seasons. Still not used to it after years of decline!

I really surprised we didn't sign Souare. He's exactly the sort of player we need at the moment. An experienced head who can cover LCB and LWB.

I thought he'd be a good option too but I guess Chelsea wouldn't want Maatsen being used as a back-up but Soare would be too expensive to have as a back-up.

*Cue someone mentioning Waghorn.
